Quincy Punx - Tina

" Tina, it was wrong of you to lock me up. I had to hurt myself to get out. But I forgive you darlin' and I know you're here, because I can smell your brains....."

As it's Halloween I asked on Facebook for a suggestion as to which song I should post today. Amongst all the shout outs for The Misfits (great band but a little obvious and well known) was one for Quincy Punx made by Isaiah Fugon. It was the first suggestion I received and the one I decided to go with.
Quincy Punx got together in St Paul, Minnesota, in 1990, a quartet of punk loving, beer drinking horror movie fans who have pretty much had the same line up ever since (Dave DePriest vocals, Bob Wood guitar and Mike Robertson drums/vocals) aside from a tendancy to sacrifice their bassists whenever the moon is full. The first of their 3 albums, and the one which today's song comes from, emerged kicking and screaming into the daylight in 1994, it was called We're Not Punks...But We Play Them On TV. Stuck On Stupid and Nutso Smasho followed but that was about it despite them still continuing to play shows.
Taking it's inspiration from the classic 1985 zombie movie, The Return Of The Living Dead, this is Tina......

Now that I'm blind I can finally see
It's a beautiful thing that'd happened to me
Among the living dead is where I wanna be
Let me eat your brain and I'm sure that you'll agree

Oh Tina if you really love me
You'll let me eat your brain

My life has gone now and passed away
But death is a party I'm here to say
Send more cops Come out to play
Come on little baby and I'll show you the way

 Let me eat your brain

Out in the graveyard in the acid rain
I know a way that you can ease my pain
Try it once and you'll never be the same
Come on be my ghoulfriend and let me eat your brain

Los Pepes - Guilty Pleasures

I thought I'd posted Tonight by London outfit Los Pepes a few months ago but a quick search shows that I hadn't so I'll make up for my forgetfulness by adding a  track from their brand new, debut album. Brought up on a diet of Johnny Thunders and The Boys they play a garage tinged brand of power pop that will have you rocking out and singing along. They emerged in 2012 with an introductory demo and followed it up a year later with the No S.O.S. 7". 2014 began with a split single with Ladykillers and then single number 2, Tonight. Taking things to the next level, they've just released Los Pepes For Everyone, their 12 track, catchy as hell, album on the excellent Wanda Records. I could have chosen any of the tracks to post, they're all great, but I'll go with the infectious Guilty Pleasures......

Sick Thoughts - Frustrated

"I can't get a date, so gotta masturbate....."

If, instead of writing a blog, I was a radio dj, and I had a record of the week slot whereby I selected the best of the weeks new releases, Frustrated by Sick Thoughts would now be booming out on the nation's airwaves. Rather impressively, the ep which it comes from, Fat Kid With A 10 Inch, which is just out on Slovenly Recordings, has 4 tracks streaming on bandcamp and all four sound equally impressive (check 'em out here : https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/album/sick-thoughts-fat-kid-with-a-10-inch-comes-with-poster ).
The brainchild of Baltimore resident Drew Owen, a guy who at only 17 years old is producing some of the most exciting new punk songs you're likely to hear, Sick Thoughts must be one of the most prolific acts around (check out their entry in Discogs. How Many releases in the last couple of years!!!!!.... http://www.discogs.com/artist/3399802-Sick-Thoughts ).
Drew plays all the instruments himself when recording whilst onstage he's joined by just a drummer. Many of his recordings are cheap, rough and ready but in a good way, the Fat Kid ep though sounds, to my tender ears, like a step up and will hopefully lead to greater things. A story of sexual frustration which would have fitted in beautifully on an early Buzzcocks 7", this is Frustrated.....

The Limps - Someone I Can Talk To

I don't know much about The Limps. They were from Annan, which is a town in Dumfries and Galloway, South west Scotland. They formed a record label, Matchbox Classics, along with another band, No Support and both bands collaborated on a couple of split eps. From one of those eps, Another Matchbox Classic, came this song, Someone I Can Talk To.....

Zodiac Killers - The Telephone Rings Again

From San Francisco, Zodiac Killers formed in 1999 and between then and 2005 they released 4 albums on the legendary Rip Off Records. Founded by Greg Lowery (who was the boss of Rip Off Records and had previously been in Supercharger, The Rip Offs and The Infections), they played the type of loud, fast and trashy punk rock music that is much beloved of this blog. Recorded shortly before they split, album number 4, Radiation Beach, is arguably their best release though they're all great. From it comes this excellent cover of The Notsensibles classic, The Telephone Rings Again......

Right from the start
I was born with no heart
And I never thought that anything
Could tear us apart
You proved me so wrong
I thought I was so strong
But I could never understand

You tear me away
Spare me today
I sit around just watching you
Wear me away
I take what I can
And you can't understand
That it's suicide

You left me alone without a house or a home
And your presence is destruction
And you've practically shown
That no thanks to me
You've lost your sanity
And you became an unknown

Now you live by the sea
And the tranquility
Is an easy way to stop you feeling
Lifeless and free
But with a wave of your hand
You are the pride of the land
So you forget about me

Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
It's a call from a long lost friend
Who called some time ago
Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
It's a call from a long lost friend
Who called some time ago

Right from the start
I was born with no heart
And I never thought that anything
Could tear us apart
You proved me so wrong
I thought I was so strong
But I could never understand

You tear me away
Spare me today
I sit around just watching you
Wear me away
I take what I can
And you can't understand
That it's suicide

Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
It's a call from a long lost friend
Who called some time ago
Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
It's a call from a long lost friend
Who died some time ago

Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings aaa ...gain

The telephone rings again
Then the telephone rings again
It's a call from a long lost friend
Who called some time ago

Sloppy Seconds - I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual

I'm not sure who made the video to this but it's a bloody good effort, it even gives you an idea of what to expect with an opening caption of "If you're easily offended now would be a really good time to fuck off." Really though, who but the most po faced could fail to chuckle along to the purposely school boy, tongue in cheek humour of Sloppy Seconds?
Formed in 1985 and hailing from Indianapolis, they've been the self proclaimed Kings Of Junk Rock ever since, plumbing the depths of bad taste with their Ramones/Kiss influenced brand of pop punk. Song subjects include porn, alcohol, obesity, classic horror movies, comic books and old tv shows, all sprinkled with a sugaring of irreverent humour and couldn't give a fuck attitude.
From their 1989 debut album, Destroyed, this is the lead track, I Don't Wanna Be A Homosexual.......

People are telling me that I'm missing out on the fun.
'Cause I don't go anywhere, and I don't meet anyone.
But I know how rumors fly.
When you're a lonely guy.
And I'm here to tell you it's a lie.

There's strange things going on at night most everywhere.
You know those places, well you'll never see me there.
I walk by other men.
And I don't notice them.
But then those rumors start again.

So I'm gonna tell the world.
I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.
I'm gonna find a girl.
'Cause I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.
I guess that it's okay.
If other guys are gay.
But my hormones are one-directional.
And I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.

Somebody tell me what I did to start this talk.
Is it the way I look? Is it the way I walk?
Is it the clothes I wear,
that make the people stare?
Is it the way I comb my hair?

I'm only hoping maybe there will come a day
When I can make them understand that I'm not gay.
But 'till that day is near,
I guess I'll live in fear.
And I curse the day I pierce my ear.

There's nothing wrong with me.
I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.
Know what I want to be.
And I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.
Soft boys and closet queens,
think Judy Garland's keen.
But I don't think she's nothing special.
And I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.

So now I'm wondering if maybe they're not right.
'Cause I've gone all paranoid and I can't sleep at night.
I went to see the shrink.
What did the doctor think?
I swear to god I saw him wink.

I pray to God I'm wrong
I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.
Why did I write this song
If I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual?
I hope it's not too late,
for them to set me straight.
I've got to see a real professional.
'Cause I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual, no!
No no no no. No no no no no no no.

I don't wanna be, I don't wanna be
I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.

I don't wanna go with guys named Shamus.
I don't wanna be rich and famous.
I don't wanna go to a French art festival
and I Don't Wanna Be a Homosexual.

Nobodys - Bring it Back

"Shoot them and hang them and make them cry, I believe in an eye for an eye..."

Not all the bands featured herein are deep thinking socially concious types

Hailing from Colorado Springs, porno loving, tongue in cheek pop punk band Nobodys formed in 1993 and announced themselves with an ep titled Perfect. 1996 saw a Joe Queer produced debut album, Short Songs For Short Attention Spans, which brought them to the attention of a wider audience. The following year they did it again with another classic, this one called The Smell Of Victory (this time the producer was Warren Fitzgerald of The Vandals). 1998 saw 2 albums, Generation XXX and a collection of their early, hard to find stuff which they snappily entitled Greatasstits. They continued on until the early 2000's before they went their seperate ways, although they have toured  sporadically since. Hopefully one day we'll get new material but until then, here's a track off 1995's Politically Incorrect ep, this is Bring It Back....

No Sir I Won't - Bring The Boys Back Home

An impassioned plea to Bring The Boys Back Home today by a band that owe a lot to a certain anarchist collective who were based in Dial House, Epping and who are also influenced by the likes of Conflict and Chumbawamba. Unlike their kindred spirits, No Sir I Won't aren't English, they hail from Boston Massachusetts and they manage to make what was pretty much an 80's sound seem fresh and relevant (although as many of the issues the original anarcho punk bands were addressing have never gone away it's unfortunate that this kinda stuff is always relevant). Featuring members of Brain Killer and Libyans, the band have gigged with the likes of Good Throb and Priests (who have both appeared in this blog and share similar social concerns) and if you want to hear more, name your price for pretty much all of their stuff here : http://nosiriwont.bandcamp.com/album/shit-12-ep

From the Whole Fucking World Is Shit ep, this is Bring The Boys Back Home....

System system with a capital S
But who signs the papers? Who cleans up the mess?
Are we janitors in the belly of the beast?
Scrubbing the floors of a windowless office
corporation co-operation
while the real men of courage are down at the station
hey bring me a coffee with plenty of cream
while down in the cells we nod off and dream
of la la la la la la la la
love and peace and anarchy
and all of the people we wanted to be
And when we get out we feel so alone
waiting for someone to bring the boys back home

...
the system that makes the poor fight the wars of the rich
forced to choose between soldier for the cause or digger in the ditch

System system well it don't mean a thing
a clockwork doll built to shoulder the burden
a remedy by way of omission
ignoring the truth behind our oppression
the throne is empty, god is dead
so we bow to the masters in our own heads
and stand in line at the demonstration
with a sign that has written "Bring the Boys Back Home"

but what will we do if they really appear?
Give em a handshake and buy them a beer?
then throw them OUT on their ass when the last train's gone
with nothing to eat, no way to keep warm
then down by the river, the boredom sets in
while they're up in the boardroom drinking tonic and gin
bulletproof glass makes the silence complete
so they don't hear the chant that rises up from the streets...
...and they don't care anyway
[Bring the boys back home - chant]

...
the system that makes the poor fight the wars of the rich
forced to choose between soldier for the cause or digger in the ditch

Gaunt - Weekend

"They were electrifying, they were totally real. They always just went out and did it"
Bruce McGuire (Warner Bros.)

From Columbus, Ohio, and formed in 1991, Gaunt were a pop punk band. At least that's what it says on Wikipedia, but don't let that lull you into thinking they're another band who worshipped at the alter of the Ramones, or were ploughing a similar field to Green Day or even Blink 182. They rocked just that little bit harder than your average pop punk outfit (as the song below will show). Led by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jerry Wick the original line up also featured Eric Barth on bass as well as Jeff Regensburger on drums, they were soon joined by guitarist Jim Weber (though he quickly left to concentrate on The New Bomb Turks) and by Jovan Karcic. They recorded 5 albums and several singles before being dropped by their label, Warner Brothers, eventually led to them splitting in 1998. Tragically, in 2001, Jerry Wick was struck by a car and killed whilst cycling home. He was only 33. From their 1995 album, I Can See Your Mom From Here, this is Weekend.......

The Croissants - We're In The Basement

Here's a great song from earlier this year by a band that's new to me. The Croissants comprise of Chris "Gabba" Sabatoni (guitars/vocals), Hans White (bass) and Heather Crocker (drums), they hail from Sacramento and I think they got together in 2010. Their debut single, Braindead Airhead, saw the light of day in 2011 and this was followed in 2013 with a split 7" with Union Hearts (you can get those early releases, name your price, on their bandcamp : http://croissants.bandcamp.com/ ).
The song that's impressed me so much is the Ramones worshipping, bass driven We're In The Basement. An outsider anthem, they don't hang out with your crowd, they don't even leave the house. It's not reinventing the wheel but it's bloody effective and leaves you wanting more. Play Loud.......

Half Man Half Biscuit - Westward Ho! Massive Letdown

Many of the bands in this blog came, saw, conquered and then disappeared as quickly as they appeared (many to turn up again years later on the live circuit). Some though have been quietly plodding away, emerging (from gorse, or wherever) every 2 or 3 years (or every few months in the case of The Fall) adding to their impressive catalogues of work. One such band, who are one of my all time favourites, are Half Man Half Biscuit. From Birkenhead, Merseyside, they've been tickling the funnybones of several generations of fans since 1984 with their quintessentially English, humour filled folky post punk ditties. Initially creating a stir with their debut album Back In The DHSS, which featured songs about people like Fred Titmus and Bob Todd, and with their Trumpton Riots ep, they split up for a few years in the late 80's but returned to perform at the Reading Festival in 1990 and have been going ever since. Maybe people who aren't of a certain age or from Britain won't pick up on many of the people and places referred to in their songs but don't let that put you off, Nigel Blackwell is one of the greatest lyricist's of our time. There's a brand new album out, entitled Urge For Offal and this is the excellent opening track, Westward Ho! Massive Letdown.....

Girl of my dreams says she’s gonna pick me up in the morning
Gonna head south-west, spend two weeks living in the sunshine
We’ve got the best room booked in the best hotel on the seafront
Hard-boiled eggs on a beach with a Blue Flag status
Westward Ho!
Westward Ho!
Fairground bound gonna have a little tussle with a claw crane
She meanwhile may like to see what’s going on in Northam
A Devon cream tea around half past three will be splendid
Crazy golf with a Swedish couple we befriended
Westward Ho!
Westward Ho!
Why is my fortnight suddenly coming to a standstill?
And why is Frank Ifield jumping up and down on a windmill?
And why is my girl getting married to a plasterer from Bacup?
Phoebus sinks and it all goes dark and then I wake up
Westward Ho!
Westward Ho!
Westward Ho!
(What a letdown)
(What a letdown)
(What a letdown)
(What a letdown)
Westward Ho!
(What a letdown)
(What a letdown)
(What a letdown)
(What a letdown)

Hank Wood And The Hammerheads - The Ghost

Back to 2014 today with a song from Stay Home!! which is the 2nd album by Hank Wood And The Hammerheads (their debut album, Go Home!, came out in 2012). From New York City, their early releases were rough and ready lo fi garage punk stompers, they've now upped the production quality a little but haven't lost any of the excitement or any of frontman Hank Woods' frenetic raw edge. Featuring a nagging, catchy as fuck synth this is a headlong primitive rush called The Ghost.....

Zero Boys - Civilization's Dying

Not to be confused with The Zeros, Zero Boys hail from Indianapolis, Indiana and have been producing hardcore punk music on and off since 1979. Their most popular album is 1982's Vicious Circle, from which today's song comes. Aside from that classic, they released a couple of albums in the early 90's (Make It Stop and The Heimlich Maneuver) and earlier this year there was a new one called Monkey.  They were never as big as some of their contemporaries (eg The Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Circle Jerks or Minor Threat) but they were plenty good enough for their legacy to still burn brightly today. Known for intelligent lyrics and catchy rocking tunes, this song, about the spate of assassination attempts that were all over the news back in the early 80's ( Pope John Paul 11, John Lennon, Ronald Reagan) is a prime example of their greatness. This is Civilization's Dying.....

Civilization's dying
And no one's realizing
The position of hate stuck inside the gun

Civilization's crying
And I won't try to deny it
We got a problem son,
Something's gotta be done

[Chorus:]
With the Pope
And the president
And the big rockstar who made a lot of money
All got one thing in common
They know it ain't no fun to get shot with a gun

Civilization's dying
And no one's realizing
The position of hate stuck inside the gun

Civilization's crying
And I won't try to deny it
We got a problem son,
Something's gotta be done

[Chorus]

Civilization's dying
And no one's realizing
The position of hate stuck inside the gun

Civilization's crying
And I won't try to deny it
We got a problem son,
Something's gotta be done

With the Pope
And the president
And the big rockstar who made a lot of money
[x4]
Made a lot of money, made a lot of money, made a lot of money
Yeah!

The Zeros - Beat Your Heart Out

An oldie today by a band that are often referred to as being the Mexican Ramones but were actually inspired by The New York Dolls and The Velvet Underground. Forming in 1976 in Chula Vista, California, the band originally consisted of teenagers Javier Escovedo (vocals/guitar), Robert Lopez (aka El Vez)(guitar), Hector Penalosa (bass) and Baba Chenelle (drums). Their first single, Wimp/Don't Push Me Around, was released the following year and this was followed in 1978 by the classic Beat Your Heart Out/Wild Weekend. 1980 saw them put out one of the eras finest albums, also entitled Don't Push Me Around, it's a collection of great songs that should be on every punk fan's shelf. They split in the early 80's but resurfaced in the 90's with new material and have toured intermittently ever since. Also covered by The Muffs, their second single is probably my favourite song of theirs, this is Beat Your Heart Out.....

Captain Everything! - Bomb Song

A blast of English pop punk today from a band I managed to catch live a few times when they ventured up north, this song is a cracker that made my top 10 singles of the year list in 2006. Captain Everything! were schoolmates from Watford who formed a band in 1998. Influenced by the likes of NOFX and Frenzal Rhomb, they consisted of Jon Whitehouse (bass/vocals), Lewis Froy (guitar/vocals) and Richard Phoenix (drums) (Phoenix left in 2005 to join The Steal and was replaced by Blake Davies before returning in 2010). The thing I remember most fondly about their gigs was the comic verbal interplay between the co vocalists, it complimented the up tempo, often humerous, songs well. As for the songs, they released several albums, most notably their latter releases which were on Household Name Records (the re-release of Learning To Play With, It's Not Rocket Science and Buena Vista Bingo Club) though there was just the one single, Bomb Song......

Tina & The Total Babes - Waiting For You

Another awesome old(ish) song today, this time by powerpop punk 'n' roll (or whatever you want to class it as) act Tina & The Total Babes. Fronted by the legendary Tina Lucchesi, who has also featured in several other great bands (including The Trashwomen, Bobbyteens, Midnite Snax, Top Ten, Deadly Weapons and Cyclops etc...), the Total Babes hailed from Minneapolis and featured Jacques Wait (guitar), Johnny O'Halloran (bass) and Travis Ramin (drums). 2001 saw the release, on Sympathy For The Record Industry, of their sole album, She's So Tuff. As if singing (and playing the drums in several of her bands) wasn't enough, Tina also put out releases by the likes of Bitchschool, Riff Randells and The Fevers on her own Lipstick Records. A fine example of the Total Babes' top notch rocking sound, this is Waiting For You.....

The Insults - Her Daddy Was An S.S. Man

Most days I don't know what I'm going to post until I actually sit down in front of my pc. I've a number of potential songs saved ready to use as updates but several of them have been sitting around unused for ages. Often though, as is the case today, a song that I add to the "to do" list will only be there for a few days before being chosen. Today I sat down and thought, "I want to listen to something raw, upbeat and maybe a little trashy," and so that's what you're going to get.
The Insults formed in the late 70's in Watsonville, California and featured, at one time or another, Ronnie Rat (vocals), Brendon T (vocals), Richard Shively (aka Richard Sikk) (guitar, backing vocals), Johnny Tomaro (bass), Brian F (bass, backing vocals) and Richard W (drums). They released a couple of singles (Population Zero and Stiff Love) and that was more or less it. Since then the tracks have shown up on various Killed By Death compilations and Last Laugh reissues but possibly most interesting there was an album of previously unreleased material called Insults To Injury which was belatedly released in 1999 and it's from this disc that today's song comes. This is Her Daddy Was An S.S. Man.....

Gulag Beach - Kim Nasty

On the day that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un returned to the public eye after several speculation filled weeks in which he had seemingly dropped off the face of the earth I thought it would be a good time to feature a song by Germany's Gulag Beach. From Berlin, the band are inspired by Californian punk (they do a version of The Bodies' California Republic which is renamed North Korean Republic), and they sing about the plight of the North Korean people. They're involved, along with LINK (Liberty In North Korea), in helping people who manage to get across the border to China, which is the reason they protect their anonymity by wearing masks and going by the names Kim HuPe (vocals), Kim Nils (drums), Kim MarCel (guitar) and Kim ThoMas (bass). From their recent North Korean Sun lp (named after their cover version of The Ramones' California Sun), this is Kim Nasty......

Duane Peters And The Hunns - dogbowl love

One of the best frontman I've seen perform live is Duane Peters, I was lucky enough to catch him a couple of times when he was singing with U.S. Bombs and I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that most of the front row ended up covered in his sweat. He's been a stalwart of the punk rock circuit for many years but before that he was better known as a professional skateboarder. Aside from U.S. Bombs he's fronted a number of other bands, including The Hunns, Exploding Fuckdolls, Duane Peters Gunfight, Political Crap and The Great Unwashed. Unfortunately he's suffered health problems in recent years, hopefully he can put these behind him and get back to producing more great music, like the song I've posted below which comes from an album called Wayward Bantams and is called Dogbowl Love......

Kill That Girl - Zombie

"I think I fell in love with a zombie girl
She wants to eat my brain....."

It's the 12th of October, tonight's the night that the new series of The Walking Dead begins in the U.S. Lets celebrate with some top notch zombie themed pop punk. Kill That Girl hail from Viareggio in Italy and, as they say themselves, have been playing the same 3 chords since 2006. Featuring Carlo (guitar), Leo (guitar/vocals), Marti (bass/vocals) and Fede (drums) they're influenced by all your favourite Ramones influenced bands. 2008 saw the release of the 7 track ...We Wanna Be Monkeys!!! ( which you can get free here : http://killthatgirl.bandcamp.com/ ).
2010 saw them release the Shams, Nice Guys & High School Memories album and this was followed in 2012 by one called Broken Hearted. Continuing with the biannual releases, 2014 has seen their latest lp, this one entitled Be Nice Or Leave. If you're looking for top quality, upbeat old school pop punk music, you need look no further, from their latest disc, this is Zombie......

The Socials - Go Vermont

Another cracking slice of modern garage/post punk today, this time from "no-fi rock n roll soldiers" The Socials. Featuring Julie Social aka Mrs Communication (vocals/guitar), Juice by Jerry (drums/vocals) and Shawn Abnoxious (bass), the band are from Cincinnati, Ohio and have been around in one form or another since 1992 (the current incarnation coalescing in 2000). Influenced by a variety of bands, including X Ray Spex, Flipper, Television, The Police, Off! and Queens Of The Stone Age, they describe their music as "the soundtrack to everything falling apart..." Despite their "veteran" status, it was 2013 before their first vinyl release saw the light of day, their previous releases on cd and demo are pretty much impossible to get hold of nowadays. Described by Half-Gifts blog as "Exemplifying everything I love about punk" The Beast Bites ep is a 4 track, 7 inch delight. From that debut vinyl platter and featuring a killer herky jerky bass and top notch female vocals this is Go Vermont....

(Quick update : the band have posted a couple of releases on bandcamp and you can find them here : http://socialssr.bandcamp.com/album/new-vibrations-of-light-2 )

Sanchez 77 - The Wrong Club

“sounds as vital, alive and urgent as anything streaming through the ether today.” – Chartburst
“extraordinary....filled with mighty edge and definition” - Forkster

Today's update features the post punk sounds of Sanchez 77. Paul Lamour and Alex Onassis have been familiar faces on the Birmingham music scene since the turn of the Millennium. They only began collaborating together a year or so ago after Paul discovered the John Peel sessions of Adam And The Ants and decided to contact his old school friend Alex with the view of forming a band. Sharing a love of post punk music, and both being fans of the likes of Wire, Gang Of Four and the early records by the aforementioned Ants, they wanted to create music that had the energy and creativity of that golden age but with a modern twist.
Their first song, All The Young Hipsters, was released online in June and attracted the attention of many online radio shows and their upward trajectory will no doubt continue with the release of their debut ep. Scribble Republic features "6 short, snappy songs which focus on themes such as identity, conformity and growing up in Birmingham in the 1980's and 1990's." It's officially released online on the 15th November but you can find it on their bandcamp now..... https://sanchez77.bandcamp.com/
From that ep, this is The Wrong Club......

Out of touch, shirt and tie, I don’t know why I’m in the wrong club.
Fake tan, scouse brow, I don’t know how I’m in the wrong club.
Dreaming of Friday nights in Snobs,
Don’t want to mix with the yobs or the bully boys
Just want to hear the music I know.

Cheap style, wet look gel, can’t you tell I’m in the wrong club?
Heavy beats, not for me, can’t you see I’m in the wrong club?
There’s another place, we can go
Down where the lights will not show all the posturing.
It is a movement of its own.

But they’re shouting too loud just to cause a reaction.
Taking it in is a waste of your passion,
They can’t change or go against the flow.
I try to stay away from your hidden agenda.
I say what I think but I only offend you.
You can’t change, I’m better off alone.
It is the wrong time.
I’m in the wrong time.
You’re in the wrong.
