Benefits - Warhorse

  STOP TELLING ME...

Benefits (https://www.facebook.com/benefitstheband), the issues based music collective from Middlesbrough return today with a very impressive new single. Thus far I think my favourite track by them would probably be their acerbic attack on nationalism, Flags (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2021/02/benefits-flag.html).

It's a little early to be sure but I think this new one might be even better.

Featuring a core line up of Kingsley Hall, Robbie Major & Hugh Major, they've changed their sound a little for this track. It's still the same well thought out, passionate stream of political vitriol but musically they go a little more up tempo thanks to additional drums provided by Jonny Snowball & Dale Frost. I was previously unsure if their uncompromising style would find the ear of the mainstream, this new single shows that the world is theirs... If they want it.

  This is Warhorse...

Stop telling me to tighten my belt, there’s nothing left to tighten.
No squeeze. No honey pot. There’s nothing lying under the bed. And now you’re laughing, at me, as my sides are splitting, Red raw laughing, as my sides are splitting, you’re spitting. Those rusting fossils, sweating piglets, stinking broken relics, Comfy seats, dirty sheets and repeated bleats. You have the right to be disgusted, To shun this pageantry, Recognise your enemy, let them rot - the lot - let them fucking rot. This is WAR, HORSE There’s Albion’s spoilt children, aching for fame, yet again. They’re fucking on the cliffs of Dover, on that post war hangover And we bask in witless wonder. All this historic racist plunder. And we sit. And we sit. Roll over. Now sit. Entitled dribbling disasters, yet they’re not your fucking masters. You are not here for their entertainment, You are not here to make them money. Do not beg, do not bow, do not curtsey. Do not beg, do not bow, do not curtsey. as this means WAR, HORSE Stop telling me to tighten my belt Stop telling me to wash my mouth, out Stop telling me you’re telling the truth Stop telling me we’re in it together Stop telling me he did his best Stop telling me we’re levelling up Stop telling me to get over it Stop telling me! stop telling me! WARHORSE

SHIT PRESENT - Voice In Your Head

SHIT PRESENT are from Exeter and describe themselves as "an emo pop rock punk indie guitar-based music project." They got together around 8 years ago when vocalist/guitarist Iona Cairns (ex Great Cynics) teamed up with members of bands such as Gnarwolves, OK Pilot, The Computers & The Smith Street Band; Ben Cottam (drums), Nic Heron (bass) and Thom Weeks (guitar, vocals).

In May, they'll be releasing a long awaited debut album. Titled What Still Gets Me, it'll be available via Specialist Subject Records on clear vinyl and digital download :                 https://specialistsubjectrecords.co.uk/products/shit-present-what-still-gets-me-lp

On the evidence of the two songs streaming on Bandcamp it's going to be a little bit special. This is the type of accessible alt rock music that should be getting daytime airplay on stations like Radio X rather than shite like Sam Fender, Blossoms and the rest of the anodyne wannabes they clog up the airwaves with.

This one's titled Voice In Your Head...

Kute - Man On The Street

Another new band for you today. Kute (hopefully they pronounce it cute as that's what I'm going with when I play them on the show later today) are a quartet from Glasgow made up of Amy (Vocals), Fletch (Bass), Kenni (Guitar) & Matty (Drums). They play loud hardcore punk but on the evidence of their demo their sound has that little something extra that makes them stand out from the crowd. There's a dark tinge, a touch of desolate post punk added to the mix.

The Demo is available here : https://kutetheband.bandcamp.com/

This is the opening track, it's very promising. It's called Man On The Street...

Cel Ray - Clock Me Out

Cel Ray are a quartet from Chicago who look to have been around since mid 2021 and who line up with Maddie Daviss (vocals), Alex Watson (drums), Kevin Goggin (bass) & Josh Rodin (guitar). They've recently released a fun ep titled Cellular Raymond which boasts half a dozen tracks which are a mix of egg, post and garage punk. They're one of those bands that seemingly appear from nowhere and impress all who stumble upon them.

The ep is available on cassette and digital download here :  https://celray.bandcamp.com/album/cellular-raymond

The song I'm highlighting is one that many of us can relate to. It's about being done for the day and wanting to get out of those goddamn factory gates. It's home time! Clock Me Out...

The Meffs - No Future

Explosive Essex duo The Meffs (https://www.facebook.com/Themeffsuk) return today with a track from their blistering new ep Broken Britain Pt. 2 (a track from Broken Britain Pt. 1 featured here :  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/12/the-meffs-it-doesnt-happen-around-here.html).

Produced by Frank Turner and released by Fat Wreck Chords, the ep is another collection of rebel rousing punk tunes inspired by the state of the nation. Britain's broken, our leaders are corrupt or incompetent (or both), gesture politics abounds. There's plenty of reasons for Lily Hopkins (vocals/guitar) and Lewis Copsey (drums) to get worked up and they channelled that anger into putting together another killer ep.

It's available on two 10" splatter variants :                                                 https://fatwreck.com/products/broken-britain-pt-3?_pos=1&_sid=7bc1ea205&_ss=r                           and blue translucent vinyl & cd:  https://themeffs.bandcamp.com/album/broken-britain-pt-2

The opening track addresses the wealth gap between the haves and the have nots and how the likes of you and I have No Future...

Abi Ooze - Alien

If you were to ask me who my favourite vocalists were at the moment I'd have to think long and hard and write you out a comprehensive list, but one name that would definitely be on there is Abi Ooze. Real name Jade Baisa and member of mega cool band Liquids she's quickly turning into a Just Some Punk Songs regular.

Today I'm posting a song from a new 7 track demo cassette titled Julia's Apartment. The songs, we're told, are Not polished. Not perfect. They are bloody good though! Lo-fi garage pop tunes of the type that's made her so popular amongst the kind of folk that check out this blog. You can get the cassette (ltd to (probably) 100 copies) and digital download here : https://abiooze.bandcamp.com/album/julias-apartment-demos

A song which I assume is about a failing relationship, this is Alien...

The Ugly Scenes - Gym Kit Mums

If you know your punk rock history you'll already be aware that the South East London town of Bromley has long been a hot bed of punk rock fandom (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromley_Contingent). Well, 40 odd years on from the days when Siouxsie Sioux, Steve Severin, Billy Idol, Sue Catwoman etc were traipsing over to watch the Pistols at the 100 club there's a new generation of locals jumping around in sweaty local pubs to hometown heroes The Ugly Scenes (https://www.facebook.com/TheUglyScenes).

I featured the old school trio last year when they released their debut ep   https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/06/the-ugly-scenes-action-man-eyes.html

They return today with a song from ep number 3. The ep's titled The Cats Whiskers and it's another collection of observationally humorous punk rock. Oi Oi Oi style bangers about characters encountered on the daily commute to work, the corruption of the political system, fake people etc...

This is the closing track, it's about those orange hued, mutton dressed as lamb types that seem to constantly crave attention. It's called Gym Kit Mums...

SLANDER TONGUE - Monochrome

"Excellent, you've saved the best till last!"

That was just one of the comments in the chatroom on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show when I played a new song by Berlin rock n roll party animals Slander Tongue. The band line up with Automatic Axel (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Klaus (Lead Guitar/Vocals), Chico M. (Bass/Vocals), Johnboyadonis (Drums), Eblo (Piano) and Jeff Clarke & The Inserts (Backing Vocals). In not too dissimilar a vein to yesterday's featured band, The Whiffs, they play a catchy hybrid of power pop and garage rock. The advertising guys deemed fit to throw around phrases like aggro power pop and guitar driven 70's ballroom blitz.

The song is taken from the band's upcoming album on Alien Snatch! Records. Titled Monochrome, it's out later this week on vinyl and digital download http://www.aliensnatch.de/start.htm  https://aliensnatch.bandcamp.com/album/slander-tongue-monochrome

If you want to check out their earlier releases go here : https://slandertongue.bandcamp.com/

They've just released a video for the title track, it's very fine indeed so check it out. It's called Monochrome...

The Whiffs - Pretender

Something to chill out to on a lazy Sunday...

The Whiffs (https://www.facebook.com/TheWhiffs) are a power pop foursome from Kansas City, Missouri who certainly know how to write a catchy tune. The released a debut album in 2017 titled Take A Whiff! It was followed 2 years later with Another Whiff and now they're preparing to unleash album number 3. Keeping up the trend of aroma themed titles, it's going to be called Scratch 'N' Sniff and it'll be out on March 1st via Dig! Record Co (US) & Bachelor Records (EU) on vinyl (minty green, bananamour yellow or black) and digital download.

The line up of the band is Rory Cameron (vocals/guitar), Zach Campbell (vocals/bass), Joey Rubbish (vocals/guitar) & Jake Cardwell (drums). Joey Rubbish (aka Joey Montaro) previously featured on Just Some Punk Songs back in 2015 with his previous band The Rubs   https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2015/12/the-rubs-do-you-wanna-go-with-me-baby.html

The album will feature 13 tracks, 4 of which are already on Bandcamp. Listen at your peril as they'll lodge in your brain https://digthewhiffs.bandcamp.com/album/scratch-n-sniff

This is the latest to be released as a single, it reminds me a little of Exploding Hearts at their most laid back. It's called Pretender...

Street Sweeper - Mama I Can't Do No Time

Here's an exciting new band from Melbourne (yep, Australia strikes gold again!), they're called Street Sweeper and they feature a line up of Allan Stacey, The Doze, Abe Pedroza & Joe Steele. They played their first gig last June on a bill that included Stepmother, Cutters and Neuros with the press release claiming they were "likely to unleash some Chuck Berry on speed/ coloured balls style Aussie pub rock to a room full of unsuspecting drunks."

Fast forward 8 months or so and we get a chance to hear what they sound like courtesy of their debut single. Mixed in with that Aussie style, riff laden pub rock is a healthy dose of power pop. It's a very promising introduction, one that'll appeal to fans of bands such as The Saints, Stiff Richards etc. You can find it as a name your price download here :  https://streetsweeperstrength.bandcamp.com/track/mama-i-cant-do-no-time

It's called Mama I Can't Do No Time...

MSixSix - Betty Tebbs

The time for action is now...

Do You remember UkePunk? The uke fuelled punk band from Bury that featured on here a few times (here's one write up on them https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/05/ukepunk-watch-out-daily-fail-song.html).

Well they are no more, but worry not, from the ashes arise a new band called MSixSix (https://www.facebook.com/MSixSixband). They take their name from the local motorway (otherwise known as the Bury Easterly Bypass). On the evidence presented by their debut single, they're going to be worthy successors.

The single is a tribute to Betty Tebbs, an English activist for women's rights and a peace campaigner. She was described by the People's History Museum in Manchester as "a radical hero who worked tirelessly and with great humility to campaign for equal rights, workers' rights and peace her whole life". She led a remarkable life of which you can find out more here :  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betty_Tebbs

There's a campaign dedicated towards raising funds to ensure her home town gets a plaque in recognition of her achievements and all proceeds from the single go towards that cause :  https://msixsix.bandcamp.com/track/betty-tebbs

Great cause, great song, this is Betty Tebbs...

Thee Headcoats - Cops and Robbers (Alt.)

One new release I've been looking out for so that I can play it on the show is a split single on Damaged Goods Records featuring Thee Headcoats and CTMF both contributing versions of a song called Full Time Plagiarist. It's a forerunner of Thee Headcoats' first new album for 23 years. Unfortunately it only seems to be available on vinyl at the moment.

I did however notice a couple of interesting things. Firstly, CTMF also have a new album on the way. Titled Failure Not Success, you can order it here :          https://damagedgoods.greedbag.com/buy/failure-not-success/

Secondly, there's another new single by Thee Headcoats. I'm featuring one of the songs from it today.

Unmistakably a Wild Billy Childish modern day classic, it's also available via Damaged Goods :   https://damagedgoods.greedbag.com/buy/cops-and-robbers-20/

It's got a groove that brings to mind Bowie's The Gene Genie (it's actually a Bo Diddley cover) and it's called Cops And Robbers...

Airstream Futures - Visited

A third song on Just Some Punk Songs for Chicago Supergroup Airstream Futures  (https://www.facebook.com/airstreamfutures).

The band are comprised of Devon Carson, Jeff Dean, Katie Karpowicz & Mike Soucy. They're a talented bunch and have featured in numerous previous bands including The Bomb, The Methadones, Dan Vapid And The Cheats, Noise By Numbers, Heavy Seas etc...

They've just released a new album, their third following Spirale Infernale (2018) and Le Feu Et Le Sable (2020). It's not a massive departure from the very enjoyable previous album, we're treated to 11 lovingly crafted melodic punk ear worms. Titled Armer L'harmonie, it was produced by Derek Grant from Alkaline Trio and Rodrigo Palma from Saves the Day and it's available on vinyl & digital download from Rad Girlfriend Records (US) and Little Rocket Records (UK).

An example of what to expect, I'm not sure if this is just about the ghost of a loved one returning from the grave or if it's more about loss and loneliness. Either way it's a thing of beauty. It's called Visited...

OC Rippers - Public Scene (Guest Review By Ralph J Rivera)

As always I gotta thank the most honorable Mr. Mick Fletcher for always allowing me to help support my thriving New Jersey Punk scene. I've written about the OC Rippers many times before. I've been their #1 supporter since the first time I saw them. I've known 2 of the members since they were teenagers and playing in local Punk bands. I've been lucky enough to have seen some of the best bands to ever come out of our beloved "Jersey Shore" scene. Adrenalin OD, Bouncing Souls, Turning Point, Underdog, Lifetime, The Ergs and especially Night Birds. NJ is a close knit community and most of us have known each other forever. It's crazy in this modern world but some of us have been friends for 30-40 years! So... back to the OC Rippers.

The first time I saw these guys it was like watching the "New Bomb Turks" back in the late 90's. Pure energy and full tilt ROCK AND ROLL. They are Lyle Delmeier on vocals, Robert Goodson on bass, Chris Burmeister on drums and Johnny Giordano on guitar. 4 guys that LIVE Punk/Rock & Roll.

Their new album "Happy Hours Air Travel" https://ocrippers.bandcamp.com/album/happy-hours-air-travel-club is the culmination of endless practice, live shows and precise knowledge of the past. Their last album "Wasteland Blues" was just a warm up for this one. Songs like "Touch", "Money Bands", and "Late Night TV Lover" show just how much they've grown. Johnny's guitar playing is spectacular on this record. I can't wait to see these new songs live and as always - OC Rippers will steal the show.

My highlight song is "Public Scene". One of their best Punk Rock jams yet! Thank you guys for bringing REAL Rock & Roll back and a huge thank you to guitarist Johnny for personally delivering the vinyl copy #1 to me. LISTEN! ENJOY!...

The OhNos - Kiss the Boot

I'm a bit late to the party with this one as it was released last year but I think it's well worth a place on the blog (and it'll get a play on the show later today).

It's by a band from Malmo called The OhNos  (https://www.facebook.com/QueensOfTheUnderworld) who've been around since 2014 and it's taken from their 2nd album, Waving From Hades. They mix up elements of alt rock with garage and a little punk and they call to mind a number of other Just Some Punk Songs featured artists such as The Mysterines, Jo-Jo & The Teeth and Soap Girls. The album's available via Beluga Records and you can get it on vinyl https://www.belugarecords.com/products/the-ohnos-waving-from-hades or digital download https://theohnos.bandcamp.com/album/waving-from-hades

Great song, cool video, this is Kiss The Boot...

I've been down And I’ve been out Burning holes into my couch Holes into my couch Holes into my couch I've been lost And left for dead Waking up in hotel beds Up in hotel beds Up in hotel beds You say that I am scum That I drag you down into the slum As I fall from grace You fall to your face And while you’re down there, why don’t you Kiss the boot I've been betting high and low And losing every game Hun, it's such a shame Hun, it’s such a shame Maybe i should just give up Accept all work, no play But honey, not today Honey, not today! You say my voice is too loud I maintain you’re just too proud Now you’re crawling on all fours Cos sobriety is such a bore And while you’re down there, Why don't you kiss the boot Kiss the boot…

Ponys auf Pump - Bullenschwein

Ponys auf Pump (https://www.facebook.com/ponysaufpump) are a quartet from Berlin who've been around since 2015 and who convey a similar sense of post punk vibe imparted by a couple of other German bands that I've featured on here previously; Toylettes and Gym Tonic.

They've a new ep out on Phantom Records, it features four new songs "about entering wage labor, the helmet and stick brotherhood, stereotypes & shortage of seats in public transport." It's a joyful experience with catchy synth stylings and some killer female vocals that may bring to mind Swiss legends Kleenex (Liliput).

You can find it as a name your price download here : https://ponysaufpump.bandcamp.com/album/s-t

This song is about police brutality, pepper spray and punches. It's called Bullenschwein...

So schmeckt also deine Faust.

Bullenschwein

Bist bei jeder Nazidemo - Gleichlauf
Ob dienstlich oder ob privat - scheißdrauf
Rechte Parolen Null Problemo
Träumst vom neuen Führerstaat

Kiesewetter ein Verräter - Mörder
NSU 2.0 marschiert - war ja klar
Tausend Einzeltäter später
Ist noch immer nichts passiert

Bullenschwein

Blonde Revolver - Lipstick and Leather

A brief update today as the song I'm posting has been available online for a few months now but it's so good (and the video is fun too) that it deserves logging on here. The update is equally as much about me saying how much I've been looking forward to hearing the debut album by Blonde Revolver and how it's as good as I'd hoped.

The band (Grace, Bec, Zoe, Emma, Iso & Kayley) are from Melbourne (yep, yet more Aussies, what a country!) and the album is titled Good Girls Go To Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere. It's attitude fuelled punk rock with a healthy dose of synth and a top notch vocal performance by Zoe Mulcahy. Hopefully you've already become acquainted with the album but if not, check it out now. It's available via Rack Off Records and you can listen here :

As I mentioned, this is a song that's probably already close to your heart but have another listen. It's called Lipstick And Leather...

Punter - A Years Silence

Have you a decent memory? Do you remember back in January 2020 when I posted a song by hot new Aussie punk juggernauts Punter from their demo ep and remarked that "there's plenty of melody in there but the band are kicking and punching the shit out of it."  I rounded off the post by saying "I'm hoping we hear plenty more from them." That song was titled A minute's Silence.
Today we're being treated to A Year's Silence...

Punter are from Melbourne and they fucking rule. They're releasing a debut 12" on Drunken Sailor Records. It's described as being "Punk Rock for the Herberts. Pissed up lyrics, RIFFS, pogo punk taking influences from Motorhead, The Blood, The Kids, Blitz and UK82." It's aggressive, energetic hardcore still full of those melodies that the band oh, so enjoy kicking and punching the shit out of. Demo highlight A minute's Silence makes a welcome return accompanied by 5 new tracks that more than fulfil that early promise. It's streaming here and you can also get those pre orders in for the upcoming vinyl variants : https://drunkensailorrecords.bandcamp.com/album/st-12-2

A beast of a track that stomps all over anything else you might listen to today, this is A Years Silence...

Lambrini Girls - White Van

Lambrini Girls (https://www.facebook.com/LambriniGirlsband) are raucous Brighton trio Phoebe Lunny, Catt Jack & Lilly Macieira-Boşgelmez. They first came to my attention last year with the release of their single Help Me I'm Gay (their 2020 debut Homewrecker having escaped my attention). Now they're back with a new single and with an announcement of an ep titled You're Welcome which is scheduled for release on May 19th on Big Scary Monsters. The band will be touring the UK to promote the ep...

If you're wondering what they're like live, here's a video of them performing the single at the Left of the Dial 2022 festival, Rotterdam. October 21st 2022...

Channelling the spirit of the best riot grrrl bands and imparting a similar message to the song from a couple of days ago by Comeback Clit, this is a shout out to those members of society who's mouth is bigger than both their brain and their dick. It's called White Van...

Bedsit - Drip Feed

In recent month's I've been sent the odd recommendation for bands to check out from the Humberside area by Gary Hockney who was vocalist and bassist with a band called 3-Action and who now (if I remember correctly) is involved with promoting bands at the New Adelphi Club in Hull. I asked him who the best band in that area was and he told me to watch out for Bedsit (https://www.facebook.com/bedsitband) who featured his son Tom and who had a new ep on the way.

The band formed originally as Tom's solo project in 2019 and released a debut ep in 2020 titled Pocket Toy. Last year, fleshed out to a 4 piece featuring Tom Hockney (Guitar / Vocals), Casey Stead (Guitar), George Garnett (Drums) & Tom Scanlon (Bass), they released a debut single titled Go Outside.

That track reappears in re recorded form on the new ep. Titled Dead Bands it boasts an impressive quartet of punk meets grunge tunes 3 of which are quite lively, mosh pit friendly rockers. The title track is a more considered affair which celebrates the heritage of live music. It's available as a cd and digital download : https://bedsit.bandcamp.com/album/dead-bands

This is the opening track, it demonstrates nicely how energetic and inventive these guys can get. It's called Drip Feed...

Rebel, re-tweet, share it, mind rot.
Anarchist page, communist plot.
Act now, your voice, stand up, slack off.
Click-through, adsense, buy now, blood clot.

Drip Feed me.
Drip Feed me something real.
Drip Feed me.
Drip feed me public appeal.

Snowflake, scumbag, slogan, fight back.
Elate, enrage, extort, distract.
Demograph outrage, kill for a safe space.
Sex sells brain cells, incest, lab rat.

Drip Feed…
Hysteria.

You’re alright.

Drip Feed…

Comeback Clit - Cheer up Luv

(photo @tonymunch)

"You're not big and you're not clever
By now you should know better..."

Comeback Clit (https://www.facebook.com/comebackclt) are the Hastings noise makers that were introduced to Just Some Punk Songs last year by Attestor vocalist Darren Bourne (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/07/comeback-clit-protect-serve-guest.html). He promised us we'd be hearing a lot about them in the future and he was right...

They've just released a new 6 track ep titled Howl Still. Featuring a line up of Siobhan (vocals), Kathy (guitar & vocals), Maddy (bass) & Annie (drums) the band once again serve up a maelstrom of noise. It's shouty, angry and aggressive railing against assiduous masculinity and the lack of respect for one's personal space. It's about being allowed to have a good time without attracting unwanted attention. It's about not being a fucking dick!

You can get the ep here : https://comebackclit.bandcamp.com/album/howl-still  (In keeping with the theme of strong women, the cover image is of Ada Gobetti, an Italian anti fascist who led the resistance against Nazis during world war 2).

This track is a great summation of the ep, it's called Cheer Up Luv.

  "How about fuck off...

   That clear enough?"

Bone Haus - Confoundead

Bone Hause are from Boise, Idaho and tag themselves as a "socially conscious post-punk garage rock" quartet. They lined up like this to record their latest ep... Rain Marie (vocals), Billie Nimbuson (guitar), Andre Maldonado (bass) & Joe Black (drums) though following the recording session Billie Nimbuson has left with Andre Maldonado switching to guitar and Allison Winkler joining on bass. Their bio suggests their music should appeal to fans of bands such as The Dead Weather, QOTSA, Joan Jett, Starbenders & X.

That latest ep is titled Confoundead and it boasts 6 tracks of darkly delicious rock music that incorporates elements of garage, grunge and blues to provide a very impressive whole. They're a very talented group of musicians fronted by a kick ass vocalist. You can find it here :  https://bonehaus.bandcamp.com/album/confoundead-ep

They recently released this lyric video for one of the highlights from the ep (Poltergeist Lover)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8lpVFcKFAo

Today I'm featuring the title track. This is Confoundead...

drinking and smoking and smoking and drinking all I can do to ignore my heart beating running away going back home can’t find a place where I feel I belong I am tired of trashing all my places keep my head down and ignore all the faces of everyone who says I’m not enough and it gets worse every time that you come along stop acting confoundead by the shit coming out of my mouth and stop being so stupid you’re so dense and it keeps my head pounding stop acting stop acting you’re so dense and it keeps my head pounding wondering why I can’t get enough can’t keep a straight face when you act tough keep my head down throw away my hopes and you can’t cope when things get rough yeah I’m so lazy and I’m so crazy and all of your writing is so fucking cheesy don’t look at me don’t look at me don’t look at me until I’ve found the key stop acting confoundead by the shit coming out of my mouth and stop being so stupid you’re so dense and it keeps my head pounding stop acting stop acting you’re so dense and it keeps my heart pounding and I’m feeling so fucked up don’t know when I’ll get enough I can’t make you sort through this stuff but I’m planning on calling your bluff stop acting counfoundead by the shit coming out of my mouth and stop being so stupid you’re so dense and it keeps my head pounding stop acting stop acting you’re so dense and it keeps my head pounding

Regal Cheer - Tenner

As usual at this time of the week, I've been polishing up the playlist for the latest's Just Some Punk Songs show (Sunday at 8pm UK time https://gpr.mixlr.com/) and I notice that another of the legendary 70's punk bands have unveiled a new single and after a listen I've decided to give it a miss. It'll get plenty of attention elsewhere and let's be honest, it's nowhere near as exciting as some of the awesome music being released by a host of hungry new up and comers. Bands that still have fire burning in their bellies. Bands like this...

Regal Cheer (https://www.facebook.com/regalcheer) are a duo from Brighton; Max Cleworth (Guitar/Vocals) and Harry Menear (Drums/Vocals). They've just released a very energetic and highly impressive debut album titled Cans. I've already played a couple of the singles from it on the show so today I'll showcase one of the other tracks.

If you haven't heard them yet, you're in for a treat. They're simultaneously angry and joyful, the subject matter of the songs can be dark but it's all performed with great gusto. It's one of those albums from which you can't find a duff track. Stop reading and go check it out. It's available on vinyl, cassette and digital download from Beth Shalom Records https://regalcheer.bandcamp.com/album/cans

Impossible to choose a favourite so I'll pretty much draw this out of a hat, it's called Tenner...

Sial - Sia-Sia

Sial are a hard hitting punk band from Singapore who introduced themselves with a Demo in 2017 and who've been kicking up a racket ever since.

They're releasing a 6 track ep on the 10th of this month which will be titled Sangkar (it translates into English as Cage). It'll be available from La Vida Es Un Mus on blue vinyl, black vinyl and digital download and you can pre order it here : https://lavidaesunmus.bandcamp.com/album/sangkar

2 tracks are streaming now and they demonstrate how, unsurprisingly the band haven't veered away from their wall of sound noise barrage and shouty, passionate female vocals (courtesy of Siti Fatimah). Anyone can throttle an instrument to within an inch of it's life and scream at the top of their lungs, it's a little harder to do so and still remain accessible to those of us that insist on a tune to go with our aural assault.

This is my favourite of the pair, it's called Sia-Sia...

Nervous - Silenced ( Guest Review By Ralph J Rivera)

Okay it's 2023 and most of the people I know that write about music have been saying the same thing over & over for years - What the Hell is going on in Australia? They're pumping out great bands from every genre nearly monthly. Well here's a new one you're gonna want to check out. "Nervous" from Perth, Aus (https://www.facebook.com/NervousPerth/) have tapped into something different than all the others. Sorry I couldn't find any info on band members names even on their FB page but they've been putting out music since their 2021 self titled EP. As I told Mick, this is a band that is completely in my wheelhouse. They combine the classic 80's SoCal Punk sound with Goth/Death Rock influences. And you just KNOW they have a kick ass female lead singer! Personally they remind me of LA legends "Red Scare" but brought into modern times. They just dropped a new album on January 31st called "Ruined" on their Bandcamp page :  https://nervous2.bandcamp.com/album/ruined

I'm hoping somebody decides to do a vinyl pressing because this is one of those records you'd crank over and over again. Opening with their style defining song "Silenced" you get the best of both worlds - Goth & Punk. After that it's a barrage of Punk bangers until they go into full blown "Death Rock" mode on "Change". A beautiful song straight out of 1982 in 2023! Finishing with 2 more up tempo jams this is gonna be a contender in my end of the year lists. Modern day classic and definitely check out the EP also because there's some great songs on that one too especially "Talk", a song I can relate to completely.

Well here's my pick, the lead off song "Silenced" which is total perfection...

Tee Vee Repairmann - People

Prolific Aussie Jake Robertson (who you should be aware of from at least a few of his other projects (Satanic Togas, Set-Top Box, RRC, Gee Tee, Remote Control, Mainframe) will soon be releasing one of the most fun albums of the year.

This time around it'll be as his Tee Vee Repairmann alter ego and in the form of an album titled What's On Tv. He's already teased us this month with the Organic Mould ep on Goodbye Boozy Records  https://goodbyeboozydigital.bandcamp.com/album/organic-mould-ep and with the first single from the album (which was called Bus Stop and which went down a storm when I played it on a recent show).

Expect quirky and very catchy lo-fi garage tunes mixed with a dash of power pop, expect a killer album beloved of cool kids everywhere. It'll be available on February 10th on vinyl, cassette & digital download via Total Punk Records and Computer Human Records. You can pre order here :  https://totalpunkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/whats-on-tv

  This track's called People...
