The Meffs - Life's Life

So it's Friday, the day of the week when the Just Some Punk Songs show starts taking shape. A busy day when I spend far too much time listening to new releases. But it's worth the effort, especially when I come across something as good as the new album by Essex duo The Meffs (https://www.facebook.com/Themeffsuk).

This is their 5th appearance on here (see the previous features here :  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/search?q=meffs). Looking back, they've put out some cracking releases and this new album, What A Life, is only going to enhance their reputation. It's available on vinyl and cd :  https://themeffs.bigcartel.com/

So many great new tracks to choose from, I'm spoilt for choice. I'm going to go with the bouncy singalong that's called Life's Life...

The Meffs - No Future

Explosive Essex duo The Meffs (https://www.facebook.com/Themeffsuk) return today with a track from their blistering new ep Broken Britain Pt. 2 (a track from Broken Britain Pt. 1 featured here :  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/12/the-meffs-it-doesnt-happen-around-here.html).

Produced by Frank Turner and released by Fat Wreck Chords, the ep is another collection of rebel rousing punk tunes inspired by the state of the nation. Britain's broken, our leaders are corrupt or incompetent (or both), gesture politics abounds. There's plenty of reasons for Lily Hopkins (vocals/guitar) and Lewis Copsey (drums) to get worked up and they channelled that anger into putting together another killer ep.

It's available on two 10" splatter variants :                                                 https://fatwreck.com/products/broken-britain-pt-3?_pos=1&_sid=7bc1ea205&_ss=r                           and blue translucent vinyl & cd:  https://themeffs.bandcamp.com/album/broken-britain-pt-2

The opening track addresses the wealth gap between the haves and the have nots and how the likes of you and I have No Future...

The Meffs - It Doesn't Happen Around Here

I'm sure you're all familiar with Fat Wreck Chords, the label started by NOFX frontman Fat Mike back in 1990. It's a very successful label with a roster of bands who have a roughly similar feel. Well now there's a new offshoot of that label called Bottles To The Ground which will showcase bands that don't quite encompass the traditional Fat sound. You can check it out here :  https://bottlestotheground.com/

Of the early releases, one that I was particularly looking forward to was a new ep by East Anglian duo The Meffs (https://www.facebook.com/Themeffsuk). Comprising of Lily Hopkins (vocals/guitar) and Lewis Copsey (drums), they've featured on here a couple of times previously when I've been impressed by their "energetic and noisy eruptions of erudite punk rock."

Happily, the new ep is arguably their best release yet.

Titled Broken Britain Pt.1 (It says part 1 of 2 so I'm assuming we'll be treated to a 2nd instalment in due course), I've already played Wasted On Women on a recent show whilst Broken Britain, Broken Brains is accompanied by a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5vFZuYlkD8) so as the ep is packed with should be hits I'll highlight one of the other tracks below.

It's available here on 10" vinyl here :

This song's sadly all too topical, it's called It Doesn't Happen Around Here...

The Meffs - Football

The Meffs (https://www.facebook.com/Themeffsuk) are Essex duo Lily Hopkins (vocals/guitar) and Lewis Copsey (drums). Hopefully you're already familiar with them but if not can I recommend their very good Self Titled debut album which impressed a lot of people when it was released last year  https://themeffs.bandcamp.com/album/the-meffs

They're currently impressing lots more people with the video release for their recent single, Football. The video features footage from last Saturday's hometown gig at Three Wise Monkeys, Colchester. Their energetic and noisy eruptions of erudite punk rock got the crowd moving and the single has us gagging for more.

  This is Football...

The Meffs - You'll See

The Meffs (https://www.facebook.com/Themeffsuk/) are a duo from Essex otherwise known as Lily Hopkins (vocals/guitar) and Lewis Copsey (drums). They released a Self Titled debut album last year which, if you missed it, is available here :  https://themeffs.bandcamp.com/album/the-meffs

The album picked up some rave reviews and helped swell their fanbase but as with most bands at the moment, the closing of live venues due to the pandemic is leaving them itching to return to the stage sometime this year. No doubt one of the songs they'll be playing when that happens is the new single which you'll find below.

There might only be the two of them but they still kick up a racket, I've not had the pleasure of watching them live but the footage on this new video suggests that as well as being noisy they bring plenty of energy and attitude to the party. The single's called You'll See and it's damn good so check it out...
