The Oxys - Ticking Timebomb

The Oxys (https://www.facebook.com/theoxysband) are a punk rock n roll quintet from Austin, Texas who formed in 2020 and who feature a line up of Ginchy (Lead Guitar), Phil D. (Vocals), Genocide (Rhythm Guitar), Gabriel Von Asher (Bass) & Rob Wiliamson (Drums). They released a debut album in October of last year titled A Date With The Oxys and with a distinct lack of fucking around they're already preparing to unleash the follow up.

It'll be called Generation Irrelevant and it'll be available on the 21st of this month on half transparent pink half opaque vinyl (ltd to 100 copies so don't snooze if you want one). My good friend (and Just Some Punk Songs favourite) Kevin McGovern (The Prostitutes/The Trouble Seekers) had this to say about the debut album; "If you’re a fan of early-Damned, The Heartbreakers, Alice Cooper and the Runaways, then this may well prove to be a contender for your favourite record of the year. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it."  Going off the evidence presented by the 2 teaser tracks, the new material will be equally as impressive. You can listen to those tracks (and get those pre orders in) here :  https://theoxysatx.bandcamp.com/album/generation-irrelevant

There's a video for the latest single, Mr Horrible, here :

This is the other teaser track. it's called Ticking Timebomb...

CAN'T YA FEEL YOUR IMPENDING DOOM WATCHING YOU SINK INTO YOUR TOMB ACCUSATIONS AND JEALOUSIES FORGET THE ATTACKS, WE'RE JUST ENEMIES STRAP EM DOWN AND TURN THE SCREW STRIKE THE MATCH AND LIGHT THE FUSE I'M A TICKING TIME BOMB ABOUT TO DETONATE I'M A TICKING TIME BOMB SEALING YOUR FATE I'M A TICKING TIME BOMB CAN'T YOU HEAR THE BELL RESONATING ON YOUR DEATH KNELL I'M GONNA BE COMING SOON YOU'LL BE SINGING A DIFFERENT TUNE CAN'T TAKE MORE OF YOUR SHIT MAN ABOUT TO SHORTEN YOUR LIFESPAN

Tina & The Total Babes - Waiting For You

Another awesome old(ish) song today, this time by powerpop punk 'n' roll (or whatever you want to class it as) act Tina & The Total Babes. Fronted by the legendary Tina Lucchesi, who has also featured in several other great bands (including The Trashwomen, Bobbyteens, Midnite Snax, Top Ten, Deadly Weapons and Cyclops etc...), the Total Babes hailed from Minneapolis and featured Jacques Wait (guitar), Johnny O'Halloran (bass) and Travis Ramin (drums). 2001 saw the release, on Sympathy For The Record Industry, of their sole album, She's So Tuff. As if singing (and playing the drums in several of her bands) wasn't enough, Tina also put out releases by the likes of Bitchschool, Riff Randells and The Fevers on her own Lipstick Records. A fine example of the Total Babes' top notch rocking sound, this is Waiting For You.....

The Gee Strings - Arrest me baby

More top notch Euro punk rock today, this time by a band based in Koln/Aachen, Germany. Formed in 1994, The Gee Strings feature the distinctive vocals of Ingenius Pop, a frontwoman often compared to Joan Jett, as well as Bernadette on guitar, Mad Macst on bass and drummer Amazing Buanax. Between 1996 and 2006 they released 4 albums (The Gee Strings, Alternative Losers, Arrest Me and A Bunch Of Bugs). There was also the 16 Tracks Of Non-Stop PunkRock compilation in 2004 and they recorded new material earlier this year but as far as I'm aware it's not yet been released. Veterans of many a sweaty gig, they've shared a stage with the likes of The Buzzcocks, The Lurkers, The Stitches, Turbonegro and many more. A good example of their brand of scuzzy '77 influenced punk n roll, this is Arrest Me Baby......

The Dwarves - Sluts of the USA

I've been doing this blog as a labour of love, posting songs which I think are great and deserve shouting about, since the arse end of 2013. In that time the song that has received the most views is a cover of The Dwarves' One Time Only by The Holograms. I'm not sure why (maybe it's because The Dwarves are young and good looking) but it's had over twice as many hits as any other song. So although I usually try to post songs by lesser well known bands and steer away from the giants of punk rock, today I'm shamelessly chasing visitors and hoping lightning strikes twice.

I don't really need to write much of an intro about The Dwarves as I'm sure anyone who loves punk is already familiar with them but I'll mention that they're currently based in San Francisco, they comprise of a multitude of band members (including one of the best vocalists in the business in Blag Dahlia) and they've released some excellently subversive punk n roll records that you should check out... http://thedwarves.bandcamp.com/   (though I'm sure most of you already have). This month sees the release of their excellent new album, The Dwarves Invented Rock 'n' Roll from which comes this song, Sluts Of The USA.......

The Gaggers - instant low

As promised back in February when i posted a song by Botox Rats, here's one by London's premier punk n rollers The Gaggers. Formed in 2009 after the members came from 1977 via time machine and featuring the distinctive vocals of Terminal Gagger (Marco Palumbo Rodrigues) they released their debut single, Fix Me Up, shortly after. Since then there's been a handful of singles, a split with The Stitches and a couple of albums, 2011's Rip You Apart and the long awaited new album, Blame You. Self confessed workaholics, the members of the band have also featured in a multitude of other acts including Dagger Dicks, Botox Rats, Shanghai Wires, Disco Lepers, Miscalculations etc. This is the recent single, Instant Low, and it's a beauty......

Sneaky Pinks - I'm Punk

Today's song seems to want to take a shit on top of your kid and whilst that's something i probably wouldn't condone i would still recommend you check out this concise blast of punked up garage n roll tunage. Featuring Justin Champlin, aka Nobunny, The Sneaky Pinks released a couple of singles in the mid 00's and then seemingly disappeared until the release in 2013 of the I'm Punk/Puke Pudding 7" single. Trashy and fun, this is I'm Punk......

The Spaceshits - C'mon, Let's Suicide!

The Spaceshits were a rock n roll / garage punk band from Montreal who featured, amongst others, Mark Sultan and King Khan. Renowned for their short and often violent live shows they released a couple of albums and several singles before splitting, Sultan and Khan going on to collaborate on such projects as The King Khan & BBQ Show. This song, C'mon, Lets Suicide, can be found on their 1999 Misbehavin' album....

Teenage Knockouts - School Girl Desire

Another slice of late '90's American garage influenced punk n roll today. Cleveland, Ohio's Teenage Knockouts weren't around for long but they did release the Japanese, Murdercycles, Guitar's And Gun's 10" from which this song, School Girl Desire, comes. Their singer, Chic Dagger, went onto form The TKO's and is currently with The Plain Dealers.

Edit : i posted a link to this on the Plain Dealers Facebook page and they've kindly taken the time to correct me by pointing out that The TKO's were in fact before The Teenage Knockouts. If anyone sees anything i get wrong or has any other points to make, bits of info to add or recommendations of similar great bands/songs please feel free to contribute via the comments section. I'd love to discover and share new stuff

Botox Rats - Nasty Business

A quality slice of scuzzed up rock n roll from London today. Featuring members of various bands such as The Gaggers (who will feature in this blog soon), Shanghai Wires, Disco Lepers and Dagger Dicks, this song, Nasty Business, appeared on a split single with Modern Action. High in energy, with a hint of saxophone, it recalls the golden age of British punk rock.....

Rebel Spies - We Must Be Cautious

It's easy posting a different song every day when I'm adding my favourites from last year interspersed with the odd forgotten classic, it's a bit harder posting new songs that people might not have heard yet but still keeping up the quality. I'll try my best though, starting with a new band called Rebel Spies, from Detroit they comprise of ex members of the likes of Suicide Machines, Hellmouth, Hi Fi Handgrenades etc. Their debut single shows lots of promise, watch out for them....

Cyanide Pills, Formica, from the album Still Bored...

Pop Punk today. Hailing from Leeds and inspired by the likes of The Buzzcocks and The Briefs, Cyanide Pills released their second album, Still Bored, last year. Full of snotty but catchy and fun tunes, it ended up on my best of the year list. Here's Formica, a girl who kills all known germs dead.....
