Gaunt - Weekend
"They were electrifying, they were totally real. They always just went out and did it"
Bruce McGuire (Warner Bros.)
From Columbus, Ohio, and formed in 1991, Gaunt were a pop punk band. At least that's what it says on Wikipedia, but don't let that lull you into thinking they're another band who worshipped at the alter of the Ramones, or were ploughing a similar field to Green Day or even Blink 182. They rocked just that little bit harder than your average pop punk outfit (as the song below will show). Led by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jerry Wick the original line up also featured Eric Barth on bass as well as Jeff Regensburger on drums, they were soon joined by guitarist Jim Weber (though he quickly left to concentrate on The New Bomb Turks) and by Jovan Karcic. They recorded 5 albums and several singles before being dropped by their label, Warner Brothers, eventually led to them splitting in 1998. Tragically, in 2001, Jerry Wick was struck by a car and killed whilst cycling home. He was only 33. From their 1995 album, I Can See Your Mom From Here, this is Weekend.......
