Brain Anguish - Fluent in Misogyny (Demo)

Brain Anguish (https://www.facebook.com/brainanguish/) are the Scottish anarcho punk duo featuring genre veterans Brian Curran (Disaffect/Quarantine/Ruin) on guitar & vocals and Angus Quinn (Sedition/Scatha/T.R.I.B.E) on bass & vocals. They share a "member" with Angus' daughters' band Bratakus; their trusty drum machine. You may remember they featured on here a couple of years ago (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/05/brain-anguish-i-didnt-speak-out-demo.html) but they've been fairly quiet since. Until now...

Solidarity Not Silence is a group of women who are being sued for defamation for speaking up about the abusive nature of a well known musician. They refuse to be silenced and need our solidarity to help fight the case. You can read more about the case here :   https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/jul/26/king-blues-singer-itch-jonny-fox-suing-five-women-over-sexual-predator-allegations

In support, Brain Anguish have released a new Demo and all money earned from it will go towards the legal fund. You can also donate directly via the Crowd Justice page :   http://www.crowdjustice.com/case/solidaritynotsilence/ or the Bandcamp page :   https://solidaritynotsilence.bandcamp.com/

A worthy cause and a very good song. It starts with a powerful sample taken from Laura Bates' speech on Everyday Sexism (https://www.ted.com/talks/laura_bates_everyday_sexism) before the drum machine and the ominously growling guitars kick in. The vocals are shouty and impassioned as our patriarchal society is taken to task. It's a song that makes you think, you can find it here :   https://brainanguish.bandcamp.com/track/fluent-in-misogyny-demo

  Fluent In Misogyny...

Stop making a fuss! Women are equal now, more or less. And if women are equal now, then to talk about sexism, to complain about sexism, must be over-reacting. Or maybe you don't have a sense of humour? Or maybe you need to learn to take a compliment? Or maybe you're a bit frigid or uptight and you need to learn to take a joke? Except that in the U.K. over two women a week are killed by a current or former partner. There's a phone call to police every minute about domestic violence. Every six or seven minutes a woman is raped adding up to over 85,000 rapes and 400,000 sexual assaults every year. In the U.K. a woman has a one in four chance of becoming the victim of domestic violence and a one in five chance of being the victim of a sexual offence. And worldwide, one in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.

A pussy brings pleasure and pussy brings life!
But the kitchen is the place for your Mother, Daughter, Wife!
Your lust for pussy when copulating
Soon turns to disgust when it's menstruating!

Your casual misogyny
Endorses ideologies
Enforced by the patriarchy
That men are strong and women weak!

You call him a pussy when you think he's weak.
And cunt is the worst insult we speak.
But a pussy's not weak nor is cunt taboo.
It was your mother's cunt and pussy that gave birth to you!

Your casual misogyny
Endorses ideologies
Enforced by the patriarchy
That men are strong and women weak

What we need is a cultural and a social shift in our attitudes towards women and our attitudes towards violence against women. All of these things are connected. The same ideas and attitudes about women that underlie those more minor incidents of sexism and harassment that we're often told to brush off and not make a fuss about, are the same ideas and attitudes about women that underlie the more serious incidents of assault and rape.

Don't cry like a girl!
You big girl's blouse!
Dry your eyes princess!
You're the man of the house!
Who wears the trousers?
Boys will be boys!
Man up son!
Grow a pair of balls!

Your casual misogyny
Endorses ideologies
Enforced by the patriarchy
That men are strong and women weak!
