Vista Blue - Johnny's Gonna Strike Out

"When it was Johnny's turn we knew
there was nothing we could do
we won't be winning here tonight...."

Some of you may remember that a while back I posted a great song called Why Is Bobby In The Outfield by top power pop outfit Vista Blue (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/vista-blue-why-is-bobby-in-outfield.html), at the time I mentioned that they were prepping a baseball themed ep ready for a release to coincide with the MLB All-Star Game. Well July is upon us and the ep, titled Grand Slam, is finally available. 4 more catchy as hell tracks of the kind we've come to expect from them but this time around the lead track, Johnny's Gonna Strike Out, is their first song to feature female vocals (courtesy of Donna Wagner Patton). The ep's available "name your price" here : http://wearevistablue.bandcamp.com/album/grand-slam

Knowing nothing about baseball I asked Mike from the band who Johnny was to which he replied that rather than being based on a real life player, the song actually takes it's inspiration from the classic 60's type of song where a guy is going out to race his car or whatever; in this instance the subject of the song, Johnny, is up to bat as the vital game is about to reach it's conclusion but you know he's just gonna let everyone down.

Some songs are just made for a hot summer's day, this is one. Johnny's Gonna Strike Out.....
