Powerplant - A Spine

Powerplant (https://www.facebook.com/ppowerplant/) are a post punk band from London (via Ukraine) who released a very decent album last year called People In The Sun. Though it slipped through the cracks and didn't get featured on here it did make enough of a lasting impression to feature on the Just Some Punk Songs end of year chart. Their new ep won't be slipping through any cracks.

The line up of the band is Theo Zhykharyev (guitars/vocals/bass/synth/digital percussion), Lloyd Clipston (drums), Benjamin Murphy (bass) and Cajm (synth/samples). They've received comparisons with the likes of Devo, Tubeway Army, Screamers & Lost Sounds but on the new ep are "weirder and faster." There's even an outbreak of crooning on the song you'll find below.

The ep's titled A Spine/Evidence and it's available on clear vinyl 7" (ltd to 500 copies) from the ever reliable Static Shock Records  https://staticshockrecords.limitedrun.com/products/664602-powerplant-a-spine-evidence-7-ep-preorder

Cassettes are available from Dreamland Syndicate

  Digitally it's here : https://ppowerplant.bandcamp.com/album/a-spine-evidence

A Spine is a funky little number that features the aforementioned "crooning". Track 2, Good Time is a lively synth punk banger and it'll feature on the Just Some Punk Songs show later today (https://www.facebook.com/events/549484852640336/). Next up is Evidence, another hyped up slice of electro groove. Prelude, as the name suggests is pretty much a piano intro into what's probably the most manic track on the ep. If Hurtwood doesn't get you moving then you're probably a lost cause. All in all a very nice release that deserves your attention.

  This is A Spine...
