Hagar The Womb - Hated By The Daily Mail
Hagar The Womb formed in London in 1981 and played their first gig (supporting The Mob and Zounds) a week later, despite none of them having previously sung or been able to play an instrument. They sang about whatever they felt needed commenting on, didn't take themselves too seriously and had a strong d.i.y. ethos. I remember buying a couple of their records (The Word Of The Womb, Funnery In A Nunnery) but in 1987 they split up with several members forming We Are Going To Eat you.
It took a while but like many of their contemporaries they eventually got back together (in 2011). 2014 saw the release of a new single, Lies Of Lies and they've recently put out what I consider to be one of their strongest songs, Hated By The Daily Mail. It's on a split with Anthrax and you can check it out here : http://anthraxuk.bandcamp.com/album/anthrax-hagar-the-womb-split-single
Railing about that bastion of right wing bigotry, this is a bit of a modern punk classic.....
Hated by you, hated by you, hated by you
Hated by you, hated by you, hated by you - The Daily Mail
Look behind the words - look behind the spin
See the lies beneath - see the lies within
Sowing seeds of mistrust - cultivating fear
Seeking to exclude - you don’t belong here
See those minorities - that we can’t allow
Someone somewhere’s different
They must be stopped right now!
Lying to deceive - blended in with news
Want us to believe - in your right to abuse
See those radicals - that we can’t allow
Someone somewhere’s having fun
They must be stopped right now!
Not just reporting - or seeking debate
Slipping through your words - are messages of hate
See those protestors - that we can’t allow
Someone somewhere’s revolting
They must be stopped right now
We’re so hated, we’re so hated, we’re so hated - THE DAILY MAIL
