Apéro - I Hate Fascist Billionaires

It's always a good start to the day when you wake up and then discover some great new music before breakfast.

Apéro are an anti-fascist egg punk band from both Hamburg (Germany) and Sénas (France). They line up like this; Rock (Synth, Vocals, Percussion), Kris Kandinsky (Bass, Vocals) & Kem Trail (Guitar, Vocals).

They've just released an album titled Cold Drinks, Cool Snacks and it's a thing of beauty. Aggressive budget priced synths and shouty vocals. Just when it seemed obvious that Nevermind, Whatever by Xray Xeroxx (https://xrayxeroxx.bandcamp.com/album/nevermind-whatever) was going to walk away with the accolade of best egg punk release of the summer, Apéro come out of nowhere as serious rivals.

Lots of great songs to choose from but I'm going with this one. It's called I Hate Fascist Billionaires...

 I hate fascist billionaires
 I don't know why
Last night i met one on the street
I had to to start a fight
 I hate fascist billionaires
 They have too much power
 I got no money
 They own the Eiffel tower
 Go away
 I hate fascist billionaires
 Each and everyone
 Go build your rockets
 And shoot into the sun
 I hate fascist billionaires
I like cold drinks and cool snacks
 But everything i buy
 Adds more to their bank
 Go away

xray xeroxx - Johnny Rotten Is A Fascist Pig

xray xeroxx. New to me but maybe a one man project? Certainly a lofi garage punk project from Los Angeles and with what looks to be a debut release, a 4 track ep titled Bored And Loving It.

This is the track with the eye catching title, fortunately it's a good tune too. It's called Johnny Rotten Is A Fascist Pig...

johnny rotten is a fascist pig
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

you used to sing about anarchy, but
you’re really pretty vacant

when you said
"god save the queen, the fascist regime"
you meant it

you did not invent punk rock
even if you think you did
you’re not an anarchist
you’re a prick
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

johnny rotten is a fascist pig
johnny rotten is a fascist pig
johnny rotten is a fascist pig
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

i just wanna be anarchy
yeah right

we're so pretty
oh so pretty
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

i just wanna be
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

we're so pretty
oh so pretty
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

you're vacant
you're vacant
johnny rotten is a fascist pig

The Oidz - Jackin off in the U.F.O

The Oidz are a Leeds based egg punk quartet featuring Ben Parry (Guitar/Vocals), Luc Gibbons (Drums), Jack Devlin (Bass/Vocals) & Summer Crane (Vocals/Synth/Samples).

They've just released an ep on Barcelona label Prison Records which features "4 songs about intergalactic masturbation, incels, and ray gun toting lovers."

As I was hunting down a bit of info on them I noticed Louder Than War had already reviewed the ep so I'll just point you in that direction if you want to know more :                                  https://louderthanwar.com/the-oidz-self-titled-review/

I'll just post the link to the ep and mention it's got a vinyl release :  https://prisonrecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-oidz-the-oidz

This song's the intergalactic masturbation one, it's called Jackin off in the U.F.O...

Thee Mutilators - Thee Burning Planet

Today I bring you a banging new track by "Jersey’s first & last egg punk band" Thee Mutilators.

They're a new band I know pretty much nothing about, from what I can gather they're a side project of a Jersey garage punk band called Dribbler (https://dribblertheband.bandcamp.com/) and they're bringing us a helping of "fast n raw drum machine & synth tinged stream of consciousness that contemplates frustration, futility & our impending doom."

They'll be releasing a 6 track ep at the end of the month titled I Have Seen The Horror Of The Future and although I've only as yet heard the one song by them I was impressed enough to shout out about it. The ep's available on a limited edition cassette (as I type this there's only 9 left) with funds from it going towards the Palestine Children's Relief Fund - www.pcrf.net. It's also going to be available digitally :

  This is Thee Burning Planet...

MY FRIEND CATASTROPHE
WE TAINTED SANCTUARY
I FEAR WE'VE BROKEN EDEN
WE WILL BURN AT THIS RATE
I WAS DOWN HERE IN THE DUNGEON WHEN YOU CRIED "EMERGENCY!"
DOWN HERE PLOTTING MY ESCAPE
DOWN HERE, I COULD FEEL THE HEAT

NEXT SUMMER WON'T BE SO COOL
THEE BURNING PLANET
WE'RE THE FUEL

NEXT SUMMER WON'T BE SO COOL
THEE BURNING PLANET
WE'RE THE FOOLS

I SAID "THIS CAME FROM GREED"
I SAID "NO EMPATHY"
ONLY OURSELVES TO BLAME
NO MORE APOLOGIES
WE HEARD THE PLANET PLEADING
WE HEARD THE FORESTS SCREAM
WE SAW THE WATER RISING

Snooper - I Think I’m Falling In Luv Again

Snooper are a very cool punk band from Nashville, Tennessee who've been on the show several times but for some reason don't seem to have been on the blog. Today I'm righting that wrong.

Not sure what to correctly call them, egg punk? Devo-core? Hell, let's just settle for fast, playful and fun. If you've not come across them yet and want a starting off point then I'd recommend last year's album Super Snooper (https://snooper7.bandcamp.com/album/super-sn-per). It's an album with more than enough great tunes to make you fall in love with the band.

Their latest release will have the same effect. It's a hyper version of an early Devo song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBwmx-nt1mc). It takes the essence of the song and rips through it in under a minute. You can get it here :

It's called I Think I'm Falling In Luv Again...

Power Pants - Spider-Man Underwear

Hey! Ho! Let's Go... here's a fun 2 minutes of synth infused Ramonescore from POWER PANTS.

They're an egg punk/power pop outfit from Winchester, Virginia who I stumbled across in the summer when I played a track (The Aliens Are After Me) from their PP3 album on the show. They've had a very prolific 2023 and if you haven't yet discovered their delights, don't worry, you can catch up with plenty of name your price downloads on Bandcamp.

They've just released a new single on local label Sockhead Records and it captures them in all their glory. They're a band you can't help but have fun with. Go check them out...

This is wonderful, it's called Spider-Man Underwear...

Busted Head Racket - Junk Food

A fun little ditty today aimed at those of us with a sweet tooth.

Busted Head Racket (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100088677639881) are a synth infused trio from Newcastle, Australia who make silly little noises in their bedroom. They released an ep in April titled Junk Food (I played a song from it called Clowning on the show back then and remember it going down well in the chatroom). It's an album of quirky diy music that you might find yourself busting a few moves to.

Available as a name your price download https://bustedheadracket.bandcamp.com/album/junk-food it's also going to be released on 10" vinyl https://bustedheadracket.bigcartel.com/products and cassette   https://spyasolarecords.bandcamp.com/album/junk-food

Daughter Bat & the Lip Stings - Botched Boob Job

First things first, Happy New Year everyone. 2021, just like 2020 has been pretty fucked up due to Covid. 2022 looks as though it could be the same. But at least we still have loads of great new music to get us through. Let's finish the year with a brand new release from down under.

Hailing from Sydney, Daughter Bat & the Lip Stings featured on here in the summer of 2020 when one of my occasional guest reviewers, Simon Geddis, managed to grab a word with Angus Lewis, the man behind the solo project https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/07/daughter-bat-and-lip-stings-preemptive.html The song which featured on that update, Preemptive Strike, went on to make the JSPS Top 50 end of year chart.

There's now a new ep out titled More Love Songs and although it's come too late to feature in this year's chart it is going to get a plug today. It's 5 new tracks of diy egg punk. It's fun, it's catchy, it's available here : https://daughterbatandthelipstings.bandcamp.com/album/more-love-songs

This is my pick of the bunch, it's called Botched Boob Job...

Cherry Cheeks - Alone

Cherry Cheeks is a project started in 2020, in Orlando, by Kyle Harms (he's since relocated to Portland). Born out of boredom & frustration, we've been blessed with a slew of very decent eps in a short spell of time (check 'em out here : https://cherrycheeks.bandcamp.com/). Playful and inventive budget priced synth punk that might have once been tagged as Devocore but is more likely to be filed under egg punk nowadays.

The most recent release, a Self Titled album, came out last month on Total Punk. On it, Kyle is joined by Kyle Elferdink on lead guitar. I was impressed with the 3 songs that are streaming on Bandcamp and with the one posted to Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4onc1g5x_Ac&t=23s) but it wasn't till the weekend just gone that I had the pleasure of sitting down and enjoying the full record. Unsurprisingly, it's excellent. Brimming over with invention, full of catchy tunes and all in all a top listen. You can grab it here : (vinyl, cd or digital https://totalpunkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/s-t-lp-2).

It's hard to choose a track to highlight as they're all of a similar high standard but I'm going with something that isn't on Bandcamp yet. This song displays some hardcore influences and some cool guitar playing to compliment the synth. It's called Alone...
