Gloo - Big Smoke

Gloo are a trio from the English seaside resort of Littlehampton that play grungy punk rock but also incorporate just enough of a modern day indie sheen that it gets them noticed by the likes of the Radio 1 Rock Show and 6 Music. I doubt they need showcasing on little old punk blogs but they've had the knack over the last 5 years of putting out some pretty cool tunes and I'm sure there's plenty of you that will welcome the introduction so here goes...

Featuring a line up of brothers Thomas Harfield (guitar/vox) & Mark Harfield (drums/vox) plus Simon Keet (bass), they released their debut single, Let Me Have Some, in 2016. They followed it 3 years later with an album titled A Pathetic Youth and there's also been a further 3 singles, the latest of which you'll find below. They write about life issues; relationships, feeling unfulfilled, needing to get away from it all, growing older... The guitars are distorted, the vocals often shouty. They make me think of Nirvana battling it out with The Wildhearts but with enough of a scrappy edge to keep it enjoyable.

This is the new single, it's called Big Smoke...

I wanna move to the Big Smoke
Drink beer and snort coke
I don't care if it makes me broke
Move to the Big Smoke!

I wanna live in the countryside
Buy a house and find a wife
I don't care if it ruins my life
Live in the countryside

Big Smoke (in the Big Smoke)
Big Smoke (in the Big Smoke)
Big Smoke oh yeah
In the Big Smoke

I wanna be beside the seaside
Sipping wine and biding my time
I don't care if it's not my vibe
Be by the seaside

I wanna live like a rock star
Fast women and faster cars
I don't care if i don't get far
Live like a rock star

Big Smoke (in the Big Smoke)
Big Smoke (in the Big Smoke)
Big Smoke oh yeah
In the Big Smoke
