The Clinch - Journeyman

   

  The Clinch (https://www.facebook.com/theclinchofficial) are a street punk/oi band from Melbourne who featured on here back in 2020 with the title track to their Basecamp album (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/03/the-clinch-basecamp.html). 

  I wrote at the time "The album contains 11 catchy, anthemic singalongs. Gritty vocals stand out nice and clear over instruments that are played with gusto by a band that have clearly honed their skills supporting the likes of Cockney Rejects, SLF, The Exploited etc..." and going of the evidence of their new single, it's a skill that hasn't deserted them.

  The single is the second one to be taken from their upcoming album, Times Up (the first was called Melbourne (https://open.spotify.com/album/5A0uaLAvV2QJqAnvpMtSiY). 

  The album will be released in July by Sunny Bastards.

Collaps - Away From You

   

  I'm still being a bit lazy at the moment, there's been a distinct lack of updates on here but my good friend Ralph J Rivera drew my attention to today's earworm and it got my juices flowing. 

  It's by a German band called Collaps. They're an oi trio from North Rhine-Westphalia and they've just released a very impressive album titled Getting Used To The Dirt.   Ralph was throwing around comparisons with the likes of Abrasive Wheels, The Partisans, Peter & The Test Tube Babies and Infa-Riot and he proclaimed this song to be the anthem track (and who am I to disagree!).

  Cittizins are a new oi band from New England. And there ends my knowledge of the band!

Taker - Big Step

    

  Taker are the oi!/punk/rock'n'roll outfit from Buffalo, New York that I featured last March when I posted a song from their Self Titled ep https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2025/03/taker-work.html

Violent Way - I'll Ask You

    

  This is another one of those "This song went down a storm on last night's show" type posts...

  Violent Way (https://www.facebook.com/p/Violent-Way-61567753415149/) are an oi band from Buffalo, New York. They've been around for about 5 years, releasing a couple of albums (Bow To None & Oi! This Is Violent Way). Last week saw that number increase to three.

  The latest addition to their impressive catalogue of music is titled A Need For Something More. It features guest appearances from Wattie Sharp (Lion’s Law, Rixe) and Greg Huff (Bishop’s Green, First Attack) and it's described as "an LP for the underdogs and downtrodden, bleeding heavily with catchy choruses and anthemic leads throughout."

Sympos - Welcome to Ballybricken

  

  Sympos (https://www.facebook.com/sympathychips) are an oi! band from Waterford, Ireland featuring a line up of Tony O Keeffe (Vocals), Aaron Mulhall (Drums), Paul Power (Guitar) & David Cleere (Electric Bass Guitar). They've already released one of the albums of the year in the form of To The Dogs (https://sympos.bandcamp.com/album/to-the-dogs).

The Buzzers - Pick A Fight

    

  The Buzzers are a street punk/oi quartet from Vancouver who first reared their heads with a demo ep back in 2019.

  This song came out as a single in January and it's a great way to start the ep. It's called Pick A Fight... 

Skinhead - Jog Your Memory

  

  

  Skinhead are California-based and New England-bred. I first came across them at the end of 2023 when I was impressed by their album Everything Was Beautiful, and Nothing Hurt. The title "is a well-known phrase from Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse-Five. It's often interpreted as a wry, almost ironic, way of looking at the absurdity and pain of life, suggesting a detached acceptance of the unpredictable nature of existence." I mention that just to demonstrate that this is a band that aren't just catchy choruses with no substance... It is very catchy, it's just it seems a little more substantial than is sometimes the case.  

  Next month sees them returning with a new album titled It's a Beautiful Day, What a Beautiful Day. It'll be available on vinyl via Closed Casket Activities :

Bird Fist - Mobbed up and on the Piss

  

  Bird Fist seem to be a band shrouded in mystery. Who are they? Where are they from. Fucked if I know guvnor (although one of them is in Scunthorpe Yobs) but I do know they're jolly good. 

  They've just released a debut album on No Front Teeth Records titled This One's For The Birds. It's female fronted, 80's inspired oi and it brings to mind the Hard Skin album Why Do Birds Suddenly Appear (https://hardskin.bandcamp.com/album/why-do-birds-suddenly-appear).

Takers and Users - Side By Side

  A welcome return to Just Some Punk Songs today for Belfast working class oi outfit Takers and Users (https://www.facebook.com/takersandusers). As I've mentioned previously (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2017/02/takers-users-glory-days.html), their Backbars and Alleyways lp (https://takersusers.bandcamp.com/album/backbars-and-alleyways) was my favourite album of 2016. So it's no surprise I'm looking forward to the release of a brand new album (it's been a while guys!). 

  The band decided to call it Ten Year Hangover as a nod to the time they've been together but they admit it's taken a while to get things completed so Eleven Year Hangover would be more appropriate. Anyway, watch out for it, there's no release date as of yet but it'll be sometime this year on Randale Records.

Sympos - boots & ballads

    

  It's been 5 years since Waterford oi! outfit Sympos (https://www.facebook.com/sympathychips) first featured on Just Some Punk Songs (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/12/sympos-on-scratcher.html) but they're back today with a track from their new album.

Taker - Work

  

  A quick shout out today for a very cool ep that I missed at the end of last year. 

  Taker are an "oi/punk/rock’n’roll band from Buffalo, NY featuring members of Violent Way, Corvo, Healer, They Live, Big Dog, Big School, Candy and more!"  They're tagged as skinhead rock n roll and oi but I'm pretty sure they've a few Ramones albums in their collections.

Bovver Bailey - Round The Back Of The Azad

  

  A skinhead rock n roll band from Liverpool today who seem to have been around for maybe 6 years? (they released a demo in 2019 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOA8f-55QiY) but who I've only just come across today..

  They're called Bovver Bailey (https://www.facebook.com/BovverBailey) and they're a quartet (Sid - Vocals, Paul - Guitar, Ged - Bass & Piggy - Drums). They've just released a new ep, I'm guessing it's their debut proper release (though I may be wrong). It's one of the best new working class oi releases I've heard for a while, it's definitely got 70's punk/Quo/glam stomp influences and you can find it here : https://bovverbailey.bandcamp.com/album/round-the-back-of-the-azad

Grit - Shoulder high

  

  Is it possible to be both happy and sad at the same time? I'm guessing it is as that's how I feel now. Happy as I noticed a new ep by Dublin band Grit (https://www.facebook.com/GRITDUBLINOIPUNK). Sad because it's a final posthumous release. 

  The band first featured on Just Some Punk Songs in 2016 when I admitted to knowing nothing about them other than that they were a female fronted punk band from Dublin who'd recently released a demo ep titled Ghost Estates.  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/08/grit-pauline.html

  I've got another new band for you today, they're called First Attack, they hail from Vancouver and they feature vocalist & guitarist Greg Huff (Bishops Green). He's accompanied by Noah Heath (bass), Matt Vogler (drums) & Robert Foster (guitar).

Unrivalled - Statues

  

  Unrivalled (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61555759871216) are a new oi/punk band from Cornwall who feature a line up of Mike Brands (vocals), James Lee Grose (guitar), Tyler Ireson (drums), Dan Murray (guitar) and Callum Sims (bass). I don't know much about them as yet though Mike Brands is familiar from his time with Arch Rivals (he also chose his Top 10 songs for this blog back in the days when I pestered people to do such things https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2017/01/top-10-songs-selected-by-mike-brands.html).

  What I do know is that they play "angry yet melodic punk music with socio-political commentary" and that they've a debut 4 track ep on the way. They're also supporting Control at Camden's Dublin Castle on the 29th of this month.

  This is the title track of the ep and it's a great introduction. It "takes a look at the futility of destroying physical symbols in the hope of bringing about change and comments on the fragility of the people who put so much faith into inanimate objects. A lesson to consider more carefully about who we raise monuments to in the first place."

  It's called Statues...  

SkullNBone - Down In The Park

  

  Did you know that Gary Numan's first foray into the music business was with a 1977 punk band who played 3 gigs with him (under his real name Gary Webb) as singer. They were first called Riot, then Heroin and then Stiletto but then they kicked him out and rebranded as Mean Street. Numan joined a band called The Lasers but soon left to form Tubeway Army. They started off as a punk band but after finding a minimoog left behind in the studio started moving towards synth driven new wave. 

  What if he'd carried on playing punk music? Maybe we'd have got something like today's song. 

  SkullNBone are Chany (vocals), Pat (bass), Dan86 (guitar) & Sam (drums). They're from Montreal and you can find their music here : https://skullnbone.bandcamp.com/

  Their latest release is a mini album titled A Requiem For The 21st which is pleasantly rowdy and which contains a cover of a single originally released as a single in 1979 by Tubeway Army and which appeared on their album Replicas.

CASTILLO - My World

    

  CASTILLO are a band from Los Angeles who impressed last year with their Pleasure And Pain 12" (https://mendekudiskak.bandcamp.com/album/051-castillo-pleasure-and-pain-12). I've Learnt Today was probably my pick of the tracks and it made it into the Just Some Punk Songs end of year chart. Obviously this meant I'd be only too keen to hear more...

  And more is now what we've been treated to in the form of a 7" single titled Signs Of A Different Time. It's exactly what I'd been hoping for. Rough vocalled 80's style oi that's very tuneful.   The title track is great but so is the flip side. It's the band wearing their influences on their sleeves as they cover the opening song of a 1989 album titled In Search Of... which was by Cheltenham band The Crack. It's called My World...

The Scunthorpe Yobs - Spirit of '79

  

  There was an element of confusion in the chatroom when I played today's song on the Just Some Punk Songs show. The listeners were surprised that The Scunthorpe Yobs were a Los Angeles band and also that they featured members of the likes of (amongst others) Bladder Bladder Bladder, Smogtown & The Generators. I did my best to clear up that confusion by showing them a blog post from 2014 in which I mentioned Bladder Bladder Bladder had originally formed in England before relocating to LA (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2014/12/bladder-bladder-bladder-us-dole-queue.html).

  Anyway, what we get now, following on from Bladder Bladder Bladder, is "Scunthorpe's premier OI band....The Scunthorpe Yobs.....reflecting life on the streets of Lincolnshire's popular seaside resort." Just from sunnier climes.

  The band have recently released a debut album, it's titled We Are The Yobs, and it's been picked up by No Front Teeth Records for a vinyl release. 

  If you're into old school street anthems you'll love the album. It's a dozen tuneful ditties about girls, pubs, football and the good old days. It's available as a name your price download...

LOUTS - Trouble

  

  Hailing from Melbourne, LOUTS are a hard rocking new quintet featuring a line up of Billy Bones (vocals), Spencer Street (lead guitar), Wilko (guitar), Joey ‘J-Rock’ Tasker (bass) & Sam ‘Two Cans’ Tuckerman (drums). Earlier this year they released a debut ep titled LOJO which introduced us to their incendiary brand of crime rock.

  They recently returned with another 4 tracks in the form of the Crime ep. They say the songs were "drawn from Collingwood back alleys between the houses they call their own and the pubs they wished were their own." To my untrained ears, they seem to have kept the rock n roll fury from the debut but in places added a bit more of an oi/bovver rock sound.
