The 99ers - Kissing Johnny Ramone

As a punk rocker, some days I want to smash the state. I want to put the world to rights and deliver crushing justice to the greedy, the corrupt and the discriminators. But there's also days that I can't be arsed and I just want someone to put a smile on my face.                                                                        The 99ers (https://www.facebook.com/The99ers/) do just that.

Hailing from St Paul, Minnesota and lining up with Stephen Brookfield (Guitar & vocals), Emily Bee (Guitar & vocals), Doug Heeschen (Bass & vocals) and Chris Schoonover (Drums & percussion), they're no strangers to Just Some Punk Songs having featured with songs about pop punk girls, girls who don't like The Lillingtons and wanting to surf like the apeman. Today they return with a new song that's a pop punk delight. It's catchy and fun and it name checks punk's most famous guitarist. You can get it here : https://the99ers.bandcamp.com/track/kissing-johnny-ramone

Punk doesn't always have to be a serious business, sometimes all you need is a love of life and a tune to sing along with. This is Kissing Johnny Ramone...

The 99ers - She Dont Like The Lillingtons

St Paul, Minnesota pop punkers The 99ers are back with a new album. It's called Pop Punk Girl (the single of the same name appeared on this blog last year) and it's a fun 13 track blending of power pop, garage, punk and rock n roll. As well as the tile track there's an excellent cover of one of the genres greatest songs (Heaven Only Knows) as well as catchy tunes about beaches, surfing, pajama parties, and Roller Girls. It's fun, melodious and will hit the sweet spot for any fan of catchy bubblegum punk.

The current line up of the band features founder member Stephen Brookfield (guitar/vocals) alongside Christopher Schoonover (drums), Doug Heeschen (bass/vocals) and Emily Bee (guitar/vocals). The album's out now on Spinout Records and it's highly recommended.

The song you'll see below was played on yesterday's Just Some Punk Songs show alongside a bunch of other great new releases. If you want to check it out, it's saved here : https://www.mixcloud.com/mick-fletcher/just-some-punk-songs-180617/  Feel free to favourite and share the show so more people get to hear the bands.

A girl with dubious taste, this is called She Don't Like The Lillingtons....

The 99ers - Pop Punk Girl

In the 2 or 3 months I've been broadcasting the Just Some Punk Songs show, one of the bands that always seem to receive very positive comments are Minneapolis pop punkers The 99ers. They've appeared in this blog previously with a song from their Spark album (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=the+99ers) and now they're back with the video for their new single.

This time around Stephen Brookfield and Emily Bee share vocal and guitar duties whilst Doug Heeschen plays bass (and sings) and Christopher Schoonover is on drums. You can check out both the new single plus their earlier releases here : https://the99ers.bandcamp.com/.

Unfortunately this will probably be one of the last releases by Ramone To The Bone Records (best wishes to Marc Ramohn who's done so much to promote Ramones influenced music down the years) but, if so, it's a worthy goodbye to a great label, it's called Pop Punk Girl.....

The 99ers - I Wanna Surf Like the Apeman

I'm sitting here in just shorts and a (Teenage Bottlerocket) T shirt typing this update. It's bloody hot in England today so I'm going to post something suitable for a glorious summer's day.

The 99ers are a "pop punk/rock and roll/garage/rockabilly/surf" outfit from Saint Paul, Minnesota who take their name from the ice cream with a Cadburys chocolate flake inserted. Influenced by many of the usual suspects (Beach Boys, Ramones, Buddy Holly, The Clash etc), they currently feature Stephen Brookfield (guitar/vocals), Christopher Schoonover (drums), Doug Heeschen (bass/vocals) and Emily Bee (guitar/vocals). Erik Kaiser-Crist is on extended hiatus due to family and work commitments.

They've so far released 5 albums which you can check out here : http://the99ers.bandcamp.com/

The song I've selected is taken from their most recent album, Spark, which came out in 2014. Featuring what is possibly the same simian that The Lillingtons saw on the moon, this is I Wanna Surf Like The Apeman......
