The Sentence - Rise Up

Back in 2018 The Sentence (https://www.facebook.com/northwestpunkband) first featured on this blog. They're a quintet with members from Burnley & Blackburn who's line up is Spike (Bass), Ged  (Drums), Steve (Guitar), Watty (Vocals) and Andy (Guitar). They've appeared a couple of times since and are back today with the lead track from their new ep.

The ep's titled Dead On The Outside and it features 5 classic sounding punk rock anthems during it's 18 minute runtime. The songs are impressive and they benefit from a decent production job which gives it a big sound but doesn't smooth out any of the rough edges. Lyrics touch upon the political and the personal with one of the highlights being their love letter to the punk rock scene (there's a video for this song here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-B7t5_GRV9I).

The ep's available on cd and digital download : https://thesentence1.bandcamp.com/album/dead-on-the-outside

Another highlight, this song has a great, nagging guitar line and is about how it's time to fight back against those who'll accept no blame for fucking up our once great nation. It's called Rise Up...

The Sentence - Riot

The Sentence (https://www.facebook.com/northwestpunkband) are Watty (vocals), Steve (Guitar), Spike (Bass), Andy (Guitar) & Ged (Drums). Ex members of bands such as What A Riot, Boredom and The Pakt, they formed in 2018 in Lancaster and have featured on here 3 times previously with Bored Teenager, Coppers and Running Away From Police. New versions of the first 2 of those reappear as part of their impressive new album, Broken World.

They're an old school band playing anthemic street punk and singing about the boys in blue, taking responsibility for your own actions, civil unrest, missing a loved one etc. The digital download is available on Bandcamp & iTunes now and on Spotify this week. The cd version is also out this week with vinyl to follow : https://thesentence1.bandcamp.com/album/broken-world

This is about uproar on our streets and it's called Riot...

The Sentence - Coppers

The Sentence (https://www.facebook.com/northwestpunkband/) are the Lancashire street punk band who proved very popular when I featured a track from their debut ep at the end of 2018 (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/12/the-sentence-running-away-from-police.html).  They formed earlier that year with ex members of bands such as What A Riot, Boredom and The Pakt and they line up with Watty (Vocals), Steve (Guitar), Spike (Bass), Andy (Guitar) and Ged (Drums).

Since releasing that debut cd (it was titled Strong Arm Of The Law and you can find it here :    https://thesentence1.bandcamp.com/releases), they've been busy gigging and have secured places on some pretty impressive bills including the Rebellion Festival and Nice N Sleazy. They're also putting the finishing touches to a debut album which they're hoping to release at the end of April. It'll be titled Broken World and it's going to impress a lot of people. As they're cool guys, they've sent me an "almost fully mastered" teaser track to share with you and it's got me all excited for the full album.

The new song is another one about the boys in blue. It boasts a cool guitar riff that sounds like a speeding panda car and is an uptempo punk throwback to the music you loved back in the early 80's (Think The Partisans and other greats of that ilk). It's called Coppers...

The Sentence - Running Away From Police

Back in July I posted a guest review from No Agenda frontman Stef Holden in which he introduced us to new Lancashire band The Sentence and waxed lyrical about their very promising first song Bored Teenager (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/07/the-sentence-boredteenager-guest-review.html). Yesterday my letterbox rattled and it was the postman delivering a slim package which turned out to be the band's impressive debut 7 track cd (cheers guys) and I'll be sharing a track from it today.

The band are a 5 piece featuring Spike (bass), Ged (drums), Steve (guitar), Watty (vocals) and Andy (guitar). They call themselves an alternative d.i.y. punk band, to me they conjure up memories of the early 80's bringing to mind the kind of superior fare that Bristol label Riot City Records would have helped achieve a place in the indie charts. The cd is titled Strong Arm Of The Law and the cover  dredges up recollections of some of the classic sleeves from that era. I could imagine the 4 Skins, The Partisans or maybe the Upstarts singing their anti police classics and not being a million miles away from the song you'll find below. I said back in the summer I was looking forward to hearing more from The Sentence and they haven't disappointed.

The songs on the cd take aim at the usual deserving targets, lying politicians, war, modern society, dysfunctional families etc. You can get it direct from the band : https://www.facebook.com/northwestpunkband/

They're not reinventing the wheel, there's no bells and whistles, just good old fashioned punk rock like they used to do back in the day. It's good stuff that will go down well with old timers lke myself and with scene newcomers. This song is called Running Away From Police...

The Sentence - Bored Teenager (Guest Review By Stef Holden)

Stef Holden previously appeared on here a couple of years ago with his old band D-Liberate (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/06/d-liberate-widespread-panic.html). Nowadays he's fronting a new Lancaster based band called No Agenda (https://www.facebook.com/lancaster.punk.rock/). I noticed him waxing lyrical about the debut release of another new band from Lancashire called The Sentence and after giving it a listen was impressed enough to rope him in to do a guest review.

The line up of the band is Spike (bass), Ged (drums), Steve (guitar), Watty (vocals/guitar) and Andy (guitar) and you can check out their Facebook page here :  https://www.facebook.com/northwestpunkband/

  And now over to Stef....

The Sentence are a new 5 piece Alternative Punk Band from the North West of Lancashire comprising of ex members af such Lancashire bands as What A Riot, The Pakt & Boredom. The band only really formed a few months ago & this track ‘Bored Teenager’ is the First thing they have released. This is really catchy stuff but what do you really expect with a band full of Punk Rock stalwarts & if this is a taste of what’s to come then I for one Can’t wait to hear more.

Bored Teenager...
