The Control Freaks - Don't Bug Me

I've not added too many updates this last week or two as I've been busy looking back over the year to sort out two "Best Of" shows and a Top 100 chart. Always a time consuming task (and always frustrating as no matter how long I spend on it I always seem to miss something out).

One band that won't be overlooked are The Control Freaks (https://www.facebook.com/ControlFreaksSF). The San Francisco garage punkers are fronted by the legendary Greg Lowery (Supercharger, The Rip Offs, The Infections, Zodiac Killers and Rip Off Records).

They've just ensured that 2025 finishes off in fine style by releasing a new album (their 4th). It's out now (vinyl & digital) on Sweet Time Records and it's titled TV Generation.  https://sweettime.bandcamp.com/album/tv-generation

If you're already familiar with the band you'll pretty much know what to expect. Garage punk royalty doing what they do best. A dozen songs; catchy and fun and not a duff one amongst them.

The band have released a few promo videos so I'll highlight one of those songs today. Duel vocals from Greg and rhythm guitarist Amy Munoz and a nagging riff, this is Don't Bug Me...

The Control Freaks - Gonna Be A Riot

Something trashy and lots of fun today as The Control Freaks (https://www.facebook.com/ControlFreaksSF) return with an outrider for their highly anticipated 3rd album, Get Some Help.

The latest excellent project from the legendary Greg Lowery (Rip Off Records, Supercharger, The Rip Offs, Zodiac Killers etc), The Control Freaks hail from San Francisco and play vibrant, simplistic but extremely moresome garage punk. Imagine 50's b-movie sci fi flicks filmed in technicolour with a low budget but plenty of juvenile talent and enthusiasm and you'll hopefully get the vibe given off by these guys.

As is becoming a regular occurrence, bassist/vocalist Greg's been changing the line up so this time around female vocals (and guitar) come courtesy of Amy Munoz whilst Rob Liebsch takes over on drums). Rob Vastano remains on guitar. The album's out on 30th September on vinyl, cd & digital and you can pre order it here :  https://thecontrolfreaksband.bandcamp.com/album/get-some-help-2

With a video that reminds me a little of the cover to the Rip Offs' classic Got A Record album, this is Gonna Be A Riot...

The Control Freaks - She's The Bomb

  FUN FUN FUN....

So yesterday I'd just got home after enduring a long, boring 2-10 shift at work (side note : I work in a place where the radio is controlled by youngsters who insist it stays tuned into stations that churn out music by abominations called Lewis Capaldi, Shawn Mendes, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran. Not only do the same songs get played every day, they seem to be on rotation so they're played every fucking hour. It's torture, I feel like a prisoner in Guantanamo Bay when the soldiers use torture by music techniques. It's no wonder my hearing is packing in). Anyway, back to last night. Before heading off to bed I need some proper music to restore my faith that there is actual proper, decent music out there (as on Radio mundane fm there's absolutely no sign of any) and I notice a new video by The Control Freaks. I watch, I listen I grin happily. I think this is so much fun. I save the video as a blog draft and write FUN FUN FUN.... and then head off upstairs.

The Control Freaks, no strangers to this blog, they're the old school San Francisco garage punks that feature Rip Off Records' legend Greg Lowery on bass and vocals, Sherrilynn Nelson (rhythm guitar/keyboards/vocals), Tim Curry (drums) and Rob Vastano (lead guitar).   https://www.facebook.com/ControlFreaksSF/

I've loved all their releases so far so hopes are sky high for their forthcoming new album on Slovenly Recordings. It'll be titled She's The Bomb and going off the evidence presented by the title track, those expectations will be exceeded. It'll be available on vinyl (included a super limited to 100 neon green disc) and you can pre order now :  https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/album/the-control-freaks-shes-the-bomb-lp

So the title track. As you may have gathered, I love it. As well as a great song you get a video that adds to it rather than just accompanies it and I'm just off to watch it again. Maybe one day my fellow workers will play stuff like this but unfortunately I'm not holding my breath. She's The Bomb.....

The Control Freaks - I Hate Your Face

One of the best releases from last year that I didn't feature on here (as it wasn't on youtube, hopefully the band don't mind me now rectifying that) was the Double Dose Of Hate single which was by The Control Freaks and came out in November on vinyl via Dirty Water Records. You can check it out here :  https://thecontrolfreaksband.bandcamp.com/album/double-dose-of-hate

If you caught them last time they featured on this blog (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2017/04/control-freaks-control-freaks.html) you'll know they're from San Francisco and feature Rip Off Records' boss Greg Lowery on bass and vocals. Alongside Greg are Sherrilynn Nelson (rhythm guitar/vocals), Tim Curry (drums) and Jeff Glave (lead guitar). As you might expect from a band featuring the man behind Supercharger, The Rip Offs, Infections and Zodiac Killers, The Control Freaks are a) a garage punk influenced powerhouse and b) fucking awesome!

I'm guessing it won't be too long before the band are featured again as they've a new album in the pipeline. Keep an eye on updates here :  https://www.facebook.com/ControlFreaksSF/

From the single and written by guitarist (and former member of bands such as The Velveteen Loveseat, The Omens, The Hampton Wicks, The Satisfactions, The Krells etc) Sherrilynn Nelson, this is called I Hate Your Face....
