The Cavemen - Over You

Rejoice! New Zealand's premier purveyors of tasteful garage punk rock, The Cavemen (https://www.facebook.com/thecavemennz/) return today with a track from their brand new 4 track ep. The ep is titled Euthanise Me and it's out today on the ever reliable Slovenly Recordings. If vinyl's your medium of choice then you'll want to be all over the (limited to 150 copies) white vinyl 7". There's also regular black vinyl and digital download. Grab them here :  https://thecavemennz.bandcamp.com/album/the-cavemen-euthanise-me-ep

As always with The Cavemen, you don't just get a "hit" and 3 b sides, you get a full ep's worth of great music. The title track is a rowdy rocker that's accompanied by a fun sci fi video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyB9SRQZc6U). We're also treated to the equally frantic Eat Your Heart & Wear Your Face and Nightmare. Both fat free budget rock bangers that'll get you bouncing around. The closing track sees the guys slowing things down a little and introducing doomed romance into the mix. As they tell the shrink, they need some strong fucking meds...

  It's called Over You...

The Cavemen - Night After Night

"So did you wanna break my heart...."

A couple of weeks ago I sent my choices for Top 10 albums of 2019 to Suspect Device zine for them to feature in their end of year special edition. It's been a great year for punk music so it was a strong list but I added the proviso that there was a new album by The Cavemen on the way which I expected to sneak it's way into my list. It didn't sneak in, it smashed it's way in. Too early yet to say if it'd make number 1 on any revised list but after more plays I'd expect it to be Top 3.

I've featured the band on here a few times so hopefully by now you know they're from New Zealand (now based in London) and play a trashy garage punk style of music with very catchy tunes. They also appear to be very busy jet setting it across the globe playing numerous gigs. You'll no doubt already be fans if you're a regular JSPS visitor but just in case, here's their back catalogue...   https://thecavemennz.bandcamp.com/ and the Facebook page :   https://www.facebook.com/thecavemennz/

And on to the new album, it's basically a bunch of scuffed and bruised pop songs that would see these guys scoring hit after hit in a more just world. Don't think they've gone soft though, tracks like Snakeskin, Can't Resist, Got My Eye On You etc rock hard, but they also show a lighter touch on songs such as early single Don't Know Why and the Velvet Underground influenced Belgian Holiday. You may have already heard Knife Fight and Boyfriend when I played them on the show in recent weeks and they're definite highlights but by no means the only ones. The album's titled Night After Night and it's available on vinyl or digital download via Slovenly Recordings (label of the year? probably). https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/album/the-cavemen-night-after-night-lp

So many great songs but I have to feature one at the end so let's go with the title track, this is a tale of being alone, staring at the telephone, waiting and hoping it'll ring, Night After Night....

The Cavemen - Knife Fight

New Zealand trash masters The Cavemen don't need much of an introduction, they've been covered regularly on here over the last few years due to the fact that they're both very productive and very good. They're already preparing to follow up last year's excellent Nuke Earth album with a brand new lp. It'll be their 4th and it's out on Slovenly Recordings (https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/) in December and will be titled Night After Night.

They've been warming up for the album release by touring around Europe and next month they'll be heading out to Asia to play gigs including the We're Loud Fest in Vietnam. You can check out details here : https://www.facebook.com/thecavemennz/

They gave us a tasty teaser of the new album a couple of weeks ago in the form of a video for the song Don't Know Why (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbUOY56UcZo) and if anything they've taken things up a notch with video number 2. It's a song about mindless violence, about picking fights after school and gang warfare with a video that reminds me a little of the fight scenes in both The Wanderers and Anchorman! It's called Knife Fight...

The Cavemen - Burn Out For Love

Paul, Jack, Nick and Jake, collectively known as The Cavemen, are the New Zealand garage punk band who've featured on here several times already and who's latest long player, Nuke Earth, is a serious contender for 2018's album of the year. (https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/album/the-cavemen-nuke-earth-lp)

They return today with a song from their blistering new single. You're getting the video for the a side below whilst you can check out equally as awesome flip side Dancing On The Razors Edge here :  https://thecavemennz.bandcamp.com/album/burn-out-for-love

As well as being one of the best bands around they're also one of the busiest, not only have they been very productive in recent years bringing out some of the most exciting music around, they seem to be on a virtual non stop tour of the globe. They're currently wowing packed houses all over Europe and you can check out dates here : https://www.facebook.com/thecavemennz/

The new 7" is out on 5th October on both Dirty Water Records and Mandinga Records and both sides will be played on Global Punk Radio shows this coming week. On Tuesday (8pm UK time) I'll play Dancing On The Razors Edge on my Just Some Punk Songs show whilst the following evening Wayne Elliott will play Burn Out For Love on his excellent Pulsebeat show (9pm UK time). This is where you can listen to both shows...  http://mixlr.com/global-punk-radio/

With a suitably trashy video (with footage taken from Mexican movie Intrepisod Punks), this is Burn Out For Love....

The Cavemen - Lust for Evil

One of the most popular bands that I play on the Just Some Punk Songs show are New Zealand garage punks The Cavemen. They've appeared on here before so I can make this introduction short and point you in the direction of their back catalogue : https://thecavemennz.bandcamp.com/

I'll also mention that they'll be touring Brazil, Mexico, The USA and Europe this year as well as releasing a new album in the spring titled NUKE EARTH! For more details check out Facebook https://www.facebook.com/thecavemennz/

Will they have matured on the new album? Will they dial down the trashiness and the sleaze? If the new video is any indication the answer is a great big Hell No! What we will get is a bunch of great songs, all done in the best possible taste!

This is Lust For Evil and it's devilishly good fun....

The Cavemen - Dog On a Chain

Not that long ago I posted a track from the latest album by New Zealand garage rock n rollers The Cavemen. I also played several songs from the album (available here : https://thecavemennz.bandcamp.com/) on the Just Some Punk Songs show and they always went down a storm so it's a bit of a no brainer that I'm going to post a track from their new ep. Titled Death Row, it features 3 new tracks and is released on June 2nd on Slovenly Recordings (169 copies will be limited edition pink vinyl). Check it out here :  https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/album/the-cavemen-death-row

With a successful mini tour of Portugal just completed they've several other European gigs lined up throughout the summer so check them out if they're playing anywhere near you. Dates are on Facebook ...  https://www.facebook.com/thecavemennz/

The band promise that the song you'll see below is only the second best of the new 3 tracks. A bold claim given that it's an awesome down and dirty modern garage classic featuring excellent back and forth female/male vocals and some really rather wonderful guitar playing. Check it out, this is Dog On A Chain.....

The Cavemen - Why Won't You

The Cavemen are "four delinquent cretins" from Auckland, New Zealand who've been playing primitive rock n roll since 2011. With a line up featuring Paul Caveman (vocals), Jack Caveman (guitar/vocals), Nick Caveman (bass) and Jake Caveman (drums), they play raw garage music influenced by the likes of The Stooges, The Cramps, Sonics, Motorhead, Elvis Presley etc.....

Their bandcamp features a bunch of releases including the 2015 self titled debut album and the excellent 2016 follow up, Born To Hate. Expect very good sleazy, lo fi rock music with a dose of humour..... https://thecavemennz.bandcamp.com/

A throw back to before rock n roll became sanitised and over produced, this is just one of the many great songs from the latest album. Why won't you.....
