Irked - Sooprize Package For Mr Mineo

  

  Irked (https://www.facebook.com/irkedband) are the Newcastle Upon Tyne quintet who exploded onto the scene towards the end of 2023 with a brilliant song called Backstreets. That track was a calling card for the band's debut ep (https://irked1.bandcamp.com/album/ep) which was as good as you get as far as introductions go.   They're back now with a new ep which assures us that first release wasn't a fluke. It's titled The Hardest Man In Billingham and all 3 tracks are great. I played the title track on last night's Just Some Punk Songs show. Song 2 is a joyful fuck you to being told what to do at the weekend (it's a cover of this Dan Sartain banger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD-BR15taYs) and the concluding track is a very fine reimagining of a song that first appeared on Supercharger's classic 1991 Self Titled album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tksbSnGzw4A).
