Irked - Sooprize Package For Mr Mineo

Irked (https://www.facebook.com/irkedband) are the Newcastle Upon Tyne quintet who exploded onto the scene towards the end of 2023 with a brilliant song called Backstreets. That track was a calling card for the band's debut ep (https://irked1.bandcamp.com/album/ep) which was as good as you get as far as introductions go. I featured one of the highlights from it here :  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2024/07/irked-crippling-empath.html

They're back now with a new ep which assures us that first release wasn't a fluke. It's titled The Hardest Man In Billingham and all 3 tracks are great. I played the title track on last night's Just Some Punk Songs show. Song 2 is a joyful fuck you to being told what to do at the weekend (it's a cover of this Dan Sartain banger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TD-BR15taYs) and the concluding track is a very fine reimagining of a song that first appeared on Supercharger's classic 1991 Self Titled album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tksbSnGzw4A).

  The ep's available on vinyl & digital :                                                         https://irked1.bandcamp.com/album/the-hardest-man-in-billingham

A wonderful garage punk stomp, this is Sooprize Package For Mr Mineo...

I was walking with a friend of mine
Doing nothing just a passin' time
Got a notion that'll do you good
Eat a pizza down in hollywood
In the alley behind the laundromat
Stab the motherfucker in the back!

Marlon Brando & Jimmy Dean
Stupid clowns didn't mean a thing
I don't really care if he was gay
Was he cuter than Doris Day
With his shoes and his tailored slacks
Stab the motherfucker in the back!

IRKED - Crippling Empath

Well this week's Just Some Punk Songs show is shaping up very nicely, 20+ new releases and some outstanding tracks chosen. Including the one I'm posting on here today. It's on tomorrow (Sunday) at the earlier than usual time of 6pm (as I'll be in the pub at 8 watching the football!).

Some of you may remember back in December when I posted the end of year chart (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/12/just-some-punk-songs-top-100-songs-of_27.html), a song called Backstreets featured. It was an impressive debut by a band from Newcastle Upon Tyne called Irked (https://www.facebook.com/irkedband).

That song is now featured on a one sided 12" ep that's available via Wrong Speed Records. It's already pretty much sold out so if you want one click the link now https://irked1.bandcamp.com/album/ep

5 tracks, each a winner. Including this one which is called Crippling Empath...
