Top 10 Songs Chosen By Raven Taylor (Author / vocalist with Raven and the Radicals)

Another top 10 list today, this time it's the turn of Raven Taylor to choose her 10 favourite songs of all time. As always, many thanks.

Raven, born in South Shields, Tyneside, in 1983  is possibly best known for her writing skills, she originally wrote dark fantasy novels but really came into her own with the gritty Punk Rock Memoir trilogy. Inspired by the relationship between Rancid frontman Tim Armstrong's relationship with Brody Dalle, she interweaves elements from her own life to produce "a (punk rock) romance that kicks you in the teeth like the toe of a sixteen-hole Doc Martin boot." The first two parts are both rated 5 ***** on amazon ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Raven-Taylor/e/B008GSG0AC) and the concluding entry in the series is due out soon.  You can get more info on her blog : https://raventaylorauthor.wordpress.com/

Re. Raven And The Radicals, they're from Glasgow and debut single, 1981, was released in 2012 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwRYLgOWrX0). Despite line up changes they're back gigging again and have just supported The Members at the Alday Punk Event.

Took the 60 bus
Out of downtown Campbell.
Ben Zanotto, he was on there
He was waitin' for me
All the punk rockers
And the moon stompers
Are out on the corners
Where they sparing for change

I started thinkin'.
You know I started drinkin'.
I don't remember too much of that day.
Somethin' struck me funny
When we ran out of money
Where do you go now when your only 15?

With the music execution (ohhh)
And the talk of revolution
It bleeds in me
Oh and it goes

Give 'em the boot; the roots, the radicals
Give 'em the boot; you know I'm a radical
Give 'em the boot; the roots, the reggae on my
Stereo

The radio was playin', Desmond Dekker was singin'
On the 43 bus as we climb up the hill
Nothin' incoming but the reggae drummin',
And we all come from unloving homes.
I said; "Why even bother" and I pick up the bottle
Mr. Bus driver please let these people on
Rude girl Carol was a mini-skirt girl
My blurry vision saw nothin' wrong

With the music execution (ohhh)
And the talk of revolution
It bleeds in me
Oh and it goes

Give 'em the boot; the roots, the radicals
Give 'em the boot; you know I'm a radical
Give 'em the boot; the roots, the reggae on my
Stereo

On my stereo!
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah!
