Weird Skin - 2 Weird 4 Luv
Weird Skin are a garage influenced pop punk 4 piece from New York who's members have featured in numerous other bands including The Steinways, House Boat, The Safes and Lugosi. The line up is Azeem Sajid (vocals/guitar), Chris Grivet (bass), Patrick Mangan (drums) and recent recruit Venu Konda (guitar). They recently released their debut, Self Titled, album (the follow up to a Self Titled ep they put out at the end of 2017). It was recorded & mixed by Marked Men/Radioactivity's Jeff Burke (his influence is all over it) and mastered by Justin Perkins. Burke also contributed guest vocals and another guest on the album is Big Eyes' Kate Eldridge who played guitar and sung on the song that you'll find at the bottom of this update. Featuring a dozen snappy and very enjoyable tunes the album is available on vinyl, cd and cassette from Future Ghost Records https://futureghostrecords.storenvy.com/
It's also streaming on Bandcamp : https://weirdskin.bandcamp.com/album/weird-skin-2
They've a few cool gigs lined up with the likes of The Young Rochelles and Off With Their Heads and you can find details here : https://www.facebook.com/weirdskinnyc/
As mentioned, this song features Kate Eldridge on backing vocals and it's called 2 Weird 4 Luv...

The Evil O'Brians - Don't Call Us Evil O'Brains
The best pop punk songs are often the simplest. Today's update features one of those.
The Evil O'Brians last featured on here in 2016 with the short but sweet Star Wars themed Stormtrooper (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/09/the-evil-obrians-stormtrooper.html). They return today with another ear worm lightheartedly reprimanding those who may spell their name wrong. The video (recorded at the 2019 Puke Fest) is fun too.
Raised on a diet of Ramones, Screeching Weasel, Groovie Ghoulies, The Queers etc, they're a "Teenage horror bubblepunk" 5 piece from Braunschweig singing about some of the scariest things around; zombies, vampires and love! The line up is Hansel O'Brian (vocals), Gasi O'Brian (guitar), Holle O'Brian (guitar), Timo O'Brian (bass) and Ole O'Brian (drums, vocals, artwork -(https://www.facebook.com/inebriatedoleart/) ).
This song is taken from an upcoming split 7" with Fil Mcrackin & The Hens which is pencilled in for release in April. Whilst you wait for it, you can check out previous releases here : https://theevilobrians.bandcamp.com/
I've just double and triple checked this update for spelling mistakes and I think I'm ok so I'll just leave you with the song. This is Don't Call Us Evil O'Brains....

Black Russians - Leningrad Beach
Last August I posted a song by Black Russians. Titled Rostov Ripper it featured on a compilation album from Outloud! Records called Killer Tunes and for my write up I made up a back story for them which might not have been entirely true (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/08/black-russians-rostov-ripper.html). What is true however is that what seems like years after first being told it was being put together, they've finally completed work on their debut album. It's called Death By Communism, they've sent me it and it's great and they've even allowed me to stick a song from it on Youtube to share with you today.
There's not an awful lot known about the band, and I'm sworn to secrecy as far as giving out too many details is concerned (Putin has spies everywhere so it's best to err on the side of caution) but I can give you their Facebook link : https://www.facebook.com/blackrussiansussr/
Luckily when the music is this good, you don't need too much info. Death To Communism will be on Outloud! Records and contain 13 tracks with titles such as Red Dawn, Mommie Is A Commie, Russian Bear, Soviet War Machine etc...
The sound, as you'll hear on the song below, is gritty old school pop punk. Crunchy guitars, catchy harmonies... it's definitely going to be on the best of 2019 lists of many of the members of the Ramonescore Fanatics Facebook group. I recommend you keep your eyes peeled for it's release. Just to whet your appetites, this is Leningrad Beach...

The Chromosomes - Watchin' airplanes
pic by Silvy Silvicious
The Chromosomes are a 3 piece pop punk band from Livorno in Italy who formed in 1993 and who are influenced by The Ramones and The Beach Boys etc. Their line up features Massimiliano Morandi (vocals/guitar), Luca Sardi (bass/vocals) and Matteo Paganelli (drums).
As well as a bunch of eps and split releases they've also released several albums. You can find a number of these releases on Bandcamp. More band info is available on Facebook and on their blog :
https://thechromosomes.bandcamp.com/
https://www.facebook.com/TheChromosomesband/
http://thechromosomes.blogspot.co.uk/
Their most recent release was last year's Losing Eleven. An album with cool cover art and 11 songs about goalkeepers in padded shirts, teddy bear cuddling heavy metal kids, pretty girls on late night tv shows, rowdy hula dancers etc, it's great fun. As well as the digital version, there's a cd available from Striped Music.... http://www.stripedmusic.com/
There's loads of bands playing this kind of music but on the evidence of Losing Eleven I think it's fair to say The Chromosomes are Champions League class (if they were a football team they'd be battling away with the likes of The Manges, The Apers and DeeCracks in Europes biggest competition. Check them out.
Looking out of my window as I type this, the sun's out, the mercury is rising, it's gonna be a great day. Perfect for lying back and Watchin' Airplanes....
Airplanes
cruisin' above our heads
here on our favourite spot
lyin' on the hood of my car
You and me
starin' at the blue sky
tryin' to guess where they come from
with a load of stories
And if the rain falls down
we don't care at all - just 'cause
we're watchin' airplanes
wonderin' places
lookin' up straight in the blue
we're watchin' airplanes
stories and faces
flyin' up deep in the blue
Who's up there?
Are they scared to watch down?
From those little windows
Maybe they could see us
You and me
starin' at the blue sky
tryin' to guess where they come from
with a load of stories
And if the wind blows strong
we don't care at all - just cause
we're watchin' airplanes
wonderin' places
lookin' up straight in the blue
we're watchin' airplanes
stories and faces
flyin' up deep in the blue
I must tell you I was afraid to fly
that I could not breathe
You give me strength I'm lucky
to have you here with me

The Young Rochelles - My Stomach Hates My Guts
Ricky, Rookie, Rocky & Ray Jay are The Young Rochelles. They're from Long Beach, New York and they're a kick ass old school pop punk band. But if you're a regular visitor to Just Some Punk Songs you know all that. You probably also know they released a fun self titled debut album last December..... https://theyoungrochelles.bandcamp.com/album/the-young-rochelles
What you may have missed is the release of a new video for one of the songs from that album. Filmed by Bambi Guthrie it's a Pepto Bismaltastic tale of over long bathroom visits, Tum snorting and projectile vomit. It even has a tacked on blooper reel. The song's pretty darn catchy too.
This is My Stomach Hates My Guts.....

The Hangups - Addicted
The Hangups are a melodic punk rock 3 piece from Malmo, Sweden who formed in 2015 and who's line up consists of Ale Hangup (guitar/vocals), Hugo (bass/backing vocals) and Jimmy (drums). They released their debut S/T ep digitally in 2016 but it's only recently become available on 7" vinyl from Monster Zero Records. Influenced by the likes of The Ramones, The Queers, Screeching Weasel, Teenage Bottlerocket etc, I find that this is a genre where the good bands often get lost amongst a surfeit of mediocrity. Not on this occasion though as The Hangups seem to get pretty much everything spot on. The songs are catchy & fun and the production is bang on the mark.
Opener Addicted will rattle around in your head like the best ear worms do. I Don't Wanna Be With You ups the pace nicely and is about realising you want out of a shitty relationship, Alone is a bright and breezy Teenage Bottlerocket style tune and closing track It Is You keeps things at a high tempo leaving you wanting more. Luckily there's plans for another ep later this year.
If you like what you hear you can get the 7" here : https://monsterzerorecords.com/products/hangups-the-s-t-7
Digitally it's available here : https://monsterzerorecords.bandcamp.com/album/s-t
For more info, including details on their gig with The Ramonas, give them a like on Facebook.... https://www.facebook.com/thehangupssux/
Give them a listen, I'm betting you'll end up Addicted.....
