They formed in 2015 as a duo, Alli Logout and Maria Elena "playing guitars and power tools over the beat of a 70’s Univox drum machine" before being joined by Ruth Mascelli on electronics and Nathan Cassiani (who you may know from Patsy and Mystic Inane) on bass. This month sees them coming over to the UK to play a bunch of shows :

09 Mar BRIGHTON Pipeline
10 Mar MANCHESTER Yes
11 Mar GLASGOW Nice n Sleazy
12 Mar BRISTOL Exchange
13 Mar CARDIFF Tiny Rebel
14 Mar LONDON Peckham Audio
They've also released a song as a taster for an upcoming new album (the album will be available via Night School Records and Thrilling Living). It's punk that you can bust some moves out on the dancefloor to. It's bass and synth led anarcho glam. It's fresh and vital. Check it out : https://specialinterestno.bandcamp.com/track/dont-kiss-me-in-public
Today's song is one that I've got on the playlist for Sunday's Just Some Punk Songs show, it's by Red Mass who are from Montreal and who's list of influences is a little different to most of the bands that feature on here (Ornette Colman, Captain Beefheart, Chrome, White Noise, John Coltrane, Cliff Martinez, The Sound).
They say that there's over 100 contributing members and visual artists who help with the persuit of "ideals of free thinking and chaos magic." Probably more relevant to this blog is the fact that the core of the band is Roy Vucino (Pypy, , CPC Gangbangs, Les Sexareenos and several more) and his partner Hannah Lewis and they play dark punk for dark days.
They've released a fairly substantial body of work over the last decade or so, their sound isn't that of your average punk band. They aren't afraid to experimant both sonically and visually and having a conveyor belt of people helping out keeps things varied. You can get more info here : https://www.facebook.com/redmassband/
This is my favourite song from the ep, it features vocals from Erick Bradshaw H (Family Curse, Cyanide Tooth, Maximum Ernst) and it's called Today I Die...
Today's update is one of those where the song is great but my knowledge of the band is pretty much zilch so you get an opening paragraph like this to pad things out. Luckily my writing isn't the part of the update you all flock to see.
Special Interest are a funky, no wave punk band from New Orleans who count amongst their line up Nathan Cassiani who you may know from bands such as Mystic Inane and Patsy. They released a name your price demo in June 2016 titled P.r.E.P. LOVE UNITY RESPECT. Earlier this year they were back with debut album, Spiralling. 8 tracks of future glam / synth punk / industrial disco / (add your own tag here). You can find the album (along with dates for their upcoming East Coast/Midwest tour) here : https://specialinterestno.bandcamp.com/album/spiraling
They've released a video for the song Disco 11 which is well worth checking out but the track I'm highlighting today is the one that opens the album. This is Young, Gifted, Black, In Leather. Play loud and groove on down....
