Stiff Richards - Kids Out On The Grass

You've possibly noticed the highly anticipated new album from Melbourne's Stiff Richards  https://www.facebook.com/stiffrichardsband/ is now out. You've also possibly already given it a listen. If so, I'm sure you're impressed. It's the follow up to 2019's excellent Dig and it doesn't disappoint.

Lining up with Wolfgang Buckley (vocals), Arron Mawson (guitar), Tim Garrard (guitar), Raf Heale (bass) and Lochie Cavigan (drums), the band have come up with another 9 rip roaring garage punk bangers which have left the fans wowed and hotly debating which is the stand out track; "This is a killer album. Talk my favourite so far"... "Glass is such an unreal song. Wow."

It's not easy to choose a favourite as the album is consistently good throughout but feel free to have a go (and let me know in the comments). It's available on vinyl (black or smokey red) and digitally from Legless Records so check it out :  https://stiffrichards.bandcamp.com/album/state-of-mind

My highlight? After a couple of listens, I'm gonna go with this. Kids Out On The Grass...

Stiff Richards - Going Numb

It's less than a week ago since I was singing the praises of Legless Records and telling you how impressed I was with their output (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/08/coffin-fast-love.html). Well they're at it again and this time it's the turn of label bosses Stiff Richards (https://www.facebook.com/stiffrichardsband/) to bolster the Legless catalogue.

If you were sleeping, you may have missed the band's 2019 album, Dig. Despite coming out on the 1st January it was still impressing enough by December to get on many Best Of The Year lists (their cover of The Chosen Few's No Fun On The Beaches made the Just Some Punk Songs Top 10). Expectations were always going to be high for new material and so I'm happy to report there'll be a new album in October. To whet our appetites they've released a song from it as a name your price download : https://stiffrichards.bandcamp.com/track/going-numb

I may be alone in this but the start of the song reminds me a little of The Buzzcocks' classic Harmony In My Head. It's a 3 minute garage stomper about wasting away, a feeling many of us are suffering from during these days of the pandemic. It's called Going Numb...

STIFF RICHARDS - No Fun On The Beaches

Today's update is dedicated to the anonymous commenter who wasn't keen on the song I posted yesterday, hopefully this is more to their taste....

STIFF RICHARDS are 5 blokes from Melbourne playing tunes "straight from the shed straight to your head..." Those blokes are called Lochie, Mawson, Raf, Gaz and Wolfie and they're just the latest in a growing number of Aussie punk bands to feature on here. If you're a fan of balls out rock n roll then Oz is where you should cast your gaze.

They'll be releasing the vinyl version of new 8 track album Dig next month and there's a release party on the 9th Feb at the Gasometer Hotel in Collingwood. Digitally it's already available here :  https://stiffrichards.bandcamp.com/album/dig

I played Bad Disease on last night's Just Some Punk Songs show so will post a different song today. They're all winners, snotty garage stompers packed with riffs and attitude. Shark attacks and speedboats running people down are just a couple of reasons to stay at home this summer as there's No Fun On The Beaches...
