Midnite Snaxxx - Contact Contamination

Oakland, California 4 piece Midnite Snaxxx (https://www.facebook.com/Midnite-Snaxxx-105627569476640) are no strangers to Just Some Punk Songs. They first featured when Prostitutes frontman Kevin Patrick McGovern chose Don't Wake Me Up as his 2nd favourite track of 2014 and they've been back a couple of times since  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2017/02/midnite-snaxxx-rule-world.htmlhttps://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/12/midnite-snaxxx-disconnected.html

A band that never disappoint, they kick off 2021 in grand style with the release of a new single on the equally reliable Slovenly Recordings.

The band just managed to get the single recorded before Covid restrictions put an end to their activity for the year but they claim the resulting 2 tracks are amongst the best they've ever done and I'm not going to disagree with them. Dulcina Gonzalez is a great vocalist and she's on top form here whilst sterling backing is provided by Chris (guitar), Camylle (bass) & Sammy (drums).

It's available on white or black vinyl and digitally :  https://midnitesnaxxx.bandcamp.com/album/midnite-snaxxx-contact-contamination-ep

Midnite Snaxxx - Disconnected

I've got to be honest, I was a little surprised when I heard Slovenly Recordings were releasing the new album by Oakland California's Midnite Snaxxx. I thought the band's catchy garage stylings may have been a little on the poppy side for a label that's associated with all that's wholesomely trashy about the genre. You know what though, whoever decided to unite band and label is a blooming genius.

The new album is titled Music Inside and it's my favourite Midnite Snaxxx release yet. Back in 2017 I was comparing them with The Ramones, Dictators and Cheap Trick (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2017/02/midnite-snaxxx-rule-world.html) and whilst those comparisons could still be considered valid, this time around there's a whole lot more variety to the album. Boasting 12 tracks, none of which gets too close to the 3 minute mark, it's a lean, energetic and inventive treat. It transcends their roots and is in my opinion more influenced by spiky post-punk than any of the illustrious bands the various members have previously graced. It's available on limited edition turquoise vinyl (100 copies), black vinyl or digital download...

This song is a good example of their new post-punk direction, it's called Disconnected...

Midnite Snaxxx - Rule The World

More female fronted garage punk today but this time around we're in much more Ramones inspired straight up punk "n" roll territory. Midnite Snaxxx are from Oakland, California and feature ex Loudmouths' front woman Dulcinia Gonzalez (guitar/vocals), ex Loli & The Chones guitarist Chris Santamaria, Camylle (bass/vocals) and Sammy (drums/vocals).

Thus far they've released a handful of singles, a 2012 debut s/t album and now they're back with sophomore album, Chew On This. Due out on Pelican Pow Wow Records on the 14th Feb, it's already digitally available on Bandcamp and you can find it, along with the earlier releases, here : https://midnitesnaxxx.bandcamp.com/

I've already mentioned The Ramones influence but you can also toss into the mix the likes of The Dictators, Cheap Trick plus former Snaxxx drummer Tina Luccessi's previous band The Bobbyteens. Chew On This is just as you'd expect, classic 60's girl group songs played by a band that grew up listening to classic punk and power pop bands. It's all very catchy but there's enough bite to have me hoping that very soon Midnite Snaxxx will Rule The World.....
