Liquids - My Best Friend (Stab Me In The Back Again)

If you're a Just Some Punk Songs regular then you'll already be familiar with Liquids. The brainchild of Indiana resident Mat Williams (he's also featured in numerous other bands such as Coneheads, The Fritz, ABC Gum, Scabs, Dagger, Pukeoid, Guinea Kid etc etc etc...), this is their 6th appearance on the blog.

The new album is titled Songs and it features a mix of 14 "lost songs and new recordings."  It's a scrappy hotch potch of lo-fi budget punk. It's also very good. We're even treated to a guest vocal turn on one of the tracks by Just Some Punk Songs favourite Jaid Baisa (aka Abi Ooze).

Amongst the treats on offer is this gem, it's called My Best Friend (Stab Me In The Back Again)...

Liquids - You Might Think

A quick glance through the Just Some Punk Songs archives reveals that Indiana punk outfit Liquids (the brainchild of the very talented Mat Williams) have featured on here 4 times so far (or 5 if you count the track I included in the Top 20 Devo-Core songs list I posted in 2017). I've previously described their songs as "lo fi diy hardcore garage stompers" and compared them to everyone from Devo to The Buzzcocks, Dickies and The Spits. Hopefully you're familiar with them by now but if not and you want to check out some "fuzzy pop nuggets with a crunchy centre and hooks aplenty" then head this way... https://liquids1.bandcamp.com/

They're back today with a very cool cover. It's a top notch version of a song that was a hit in 1984 for The Cars (and was on their Heartbeat City album). This time around it's one of the highlights on an album titled Paul Henry's Benefit Compilation. It's "a comp to help raise funds for a new roof that Paul Henrys DESPERATELY needs. Paul Henry's Art Gallery is a staple to the community in Northwest Indiana and has been one of the most important spaces to NWI punk for the last 5 years." 26 tracks of killer punk including music from the likes of CCTV, Abi Ooze, Attestor, Big Zit and many more. It's available on cassette and digital download from Upset Condition :   https://upsetconditiontapes.bandcamp.com/album/paul-henrys-benefit-compilation

I love the vocals on this, it's called You Might Think...

Liquids - Life Of Oi

Indiana punk legend Mat Williams (Coneheads, ABC Gum, The Fritz and loads of others) returns today with the "band" he's probably now best known for, Liquids. He's just released an impressive 27 track album called Life Is Pain Idiot which appears to collect together some of the band's best songs including a couple I've featured on here previously :

It's lo-fi, DIY and very catchy. Short songs that'll make you move and smile. Fuzzy pop nuggets with a crunchy centre and hooks aplenty and there's even a very decent cover of Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell. You can get it here :  https://liquids1.bandcamp.com/album/life-is-pain-idiot

So many gems to choose from but I'm going with this. It's called Life Of Oi...

Liquids - Don't Wanna Get To Know You

It was only last month that I brought you a case of terminal diarrhea from Indiana's Liquids (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/10/liquids-youre-punk.html) but they're back already with a track from brand new ep 2 Soft Serves and a Hard Rock. Once again former Conehead Mat Williams has smashed it out of the park. Last time around I compared their song with Devo, The Dickies & The Spits but on the song I'm posting today I'm picking up more of a gloriously sloppy early Buzzcocks vibe. It's the sound of someone who's got a headful of killer tunes bursting to get out and who wants to release them in all their manic glory. It's a don't give a fuck energetic slice of timeless punk that leaves you demanding more. You can snap up the ep "name your price" here :   https://liquids1.bandcamp.com/album/2-soft-serves-and-a-hard-rock

This is the lead track, it's titled I Don't Wanna Get To Know You....

Liquids - You're A Punk

Today you're getting a song from an ep that caused one of my friends to exclaim "Never in my life have I enjoyed liquid terminal diarrhea as much as I am now. Don't want it to end." If that ain't a hearty recommendation then I don't know what is!

Liquids are a lo-fi whacked out hardcore garage punk band from Northwest Indiana featuring Coneheads' Mat Williams. They formed in 2015 and featured on here a couple of years ago   https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2017/01/liquids-xxxxx.html

Today they return with a nicely manic track from their new ep. The ep's titled terminaldiarrhea and it blasts through 4 tracks in 6 minutes. Think Devo meets The Dickies round at The Spits' house. Once you've thought that, go snap it up here :   https://liquids1.bandcamp.com/album/terminaldiarrhea

This is my favourite track, You're A Punk...

Liquids - XxxXx

Hailing from Indiana, Liquids are one of the coolest bands around. Their music is a riot of short blasts of lo fi diy hardcore garage stompers and they're often mentioned in the same breath as fellow Indiana outfit Coneheads (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/the-coneheads-way-things-am.html). Mat Williams features in both bands.

Over the course of the last couple of years they've released a bunch of cassettes, eps and the rather excellent Hot Liqs re recorded compilation album which you can check out on Drunken Sailors Bandcamp page : https://drunkensailorrecords.bandcamp.com/album/hot-liqs-lp

Drunken Sailor are also streaming the new ep called More Thana Friend. There's 111 copies of the record available on gold vinyl which is due for release in a couple of days but I'd be surprised if they weren't already pretty much snapped up. To get more info and to listen to the ep click here : https://drunkensailorrecords.bandcamp.com/album/more-thana-friend-ep

From the new ep, here's a song that previously went by the title Gwenys Song but now seems to be titled XxxXx. Whatever it's called it's great.....
