Judy And The Jerks - Worth A Shot

Hattiesburg (Mississippi) hell-raisers Judy And The Jerks return today with a blink and you'll miss it track from their new split album with Parma (Italy) power punks Shitty Life.

Featuring a line up of Julie Gore (vocals), Austin Griffith (guitar), Hampton Martin (bass) & Sarah Krock (drums), Judy and the Jerks are a band that are at their most ferocious on this release. They rattle through 10 songs in well under 10 minutes and by the end of their contribution you're gasping for breath... but there's no let up as Shitty Life step up to the plate with another 4 bangers (one of which I'll play on next week's Just Some Punk Songs show).

You can snap up the split on cassette or as a name your price download from Earth Girl Tapes :  https://earthgirltapes.bandcamp.com/album/split

And if you fancy experiencing the mayhem in a live setting there's a tour on the way...

Judy And The Jerks - Nothing To Prove

If you've been checking on a daily basis this week for updates then apologies, I just couldn't be arsed. Rather than force myself to post, I decided to wait till something inspired me and that something is the new album by Hattiesburg's finest Judy And The Jerks.

The album's titled Music To Go Nuts and it'll be available on vinyl around September from Thrilling Living (you can preorder and listen to the digital version now) :  https://thrillingliving.bandcamp.com/album/music-to-go-nuts

The band have featured on here several times previously so you should know what to expect. A version of one of the tracks from the album appeared back in 2019  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/09/judy-and-jerks-california.html

Money made from pre orders will help support them on their upcoming European tour, here are the dates :

This song clocks in at barely over a minute and it's called Nothing To Prove...

Judy And The Jerks - Bloodstains

It's that time of the year when we see the release of a number of interesting Halloween themed records. I featured one by Vista Blue earlier this week and today you're getting another.

No strangers to Just Some Punk Songs, Judy And The Jerks are from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, they're fronted by the aptly named (for this time of year) Julie Gore and fleshed out by Austin Griffith, Hampton Martin & Sarah Krock. Previous appearances on here have seen me describe them as "a female fronted off kilter buzzbomb of garage influenced punk fun" and "whacked out weirdos." I've called them "infectiously frantic" and described their music as "scuzzy garage goodness."  Happily some things never change.

Their new Halloween themed release is a 4 track ep titled Candy After Dark. It's available on cassette from Hampton Martin's Earth Girl Tapes.  The tape will be available for two shows in Atlanta during Halloween weekend and any that are left over will be available (along with the name your price digital download) here : https://judyandthejerks.bandcamp.com/album/candy-after-dark

If you're a fan of the band then you may be interested in an earlier incarnation, featuring a couple of the members, called Baghead. UK label Richter Scale have just released their discography on a cassette and digital download (pic above) and you can get it here : https://richterscaleoxford.bandcamp.com/album/baghead-discography

Back to Judy And The Jerks, the track I'm highlighting is a cover of a song by Agent Orange that featured on the 1981 album Living In Darkness. This is Bloodstains...

They can make things worse for me
Sometimes I'd rather die
They can tell me lots of things
But I can't see eye to eye
Well, I know they know the way I think
I know they always will
But someday I'm gonna change my mind
Sometimes I'd rather kill

Blood stains, speed kills
Fast cars, cheap thrills
Rich girls, fine wine
I've lost my sense, I've lost control, I'm lost my mind

Things seem so much different now
The scene has died away
I haven't got a steady job
And I've got no place to stay
Well, it's a futuristic modern world
But things aren't what they seem
Someday you'd better wake up
From this stupid fantasy

Come on, blood stains, speed kills
Fast cars, cheap thrills
Rich girls, fine wine
I've lost my sense, I've lost control, I'm lost my mind

Blood stains, speed kills
Fast cars, cheap thrills
Rich girls, fine wine
I've lost my sense, I've lost control, I'm lost my mind

Judy And The Jerks - California

Hopefully you'll agree with me when I say that I think there's been some great songs on here this week and hopefully you'll agree that the one you're getting today ain't half bad either. It's by a band that are making what I think is their 4th appearance and they always prove popular, they're called Judy And The Jerks, they hail from Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and I've previously called them whacked out weirdos and an off kilter buzzbomb of garage influenced punk fun.

The reason for their reappearance is the release of a new 5 track ep titled Bone Spur, it's available on cassette or digitally on Bandcamp as a name your price download :   https://judyandthejerks.bandcamp.com/album/bone-spur

As well as the ep, there's also an East Coast Fall tour to tell you about. If you're from that neck of the woods then you can catch them here :

Sept 30 - Asheville,NC - Stable Boy Handjob, Kadre @ Lazy Diamond
Oct 1 - Washington D.C. - Holographic, Holy Child @ Slash Run
Oct 2 - Baltimore, MD - Glue Traps, Cold Feet @ Holy Frijoles
Oct 3 - NYC, NY - Not Amused, PosterBoy2000 @ Brooklyn Bazaar
Oct 4 - Philadelphia, PA - UV-TV, Mack Enemy, fracture @ Cousin Danny's
Oct 5 - Richmond, VA - Cement Shoes, Kuni @ VSC
Oct 6 - Birmingham, AL - Punk Rock Flea Market

On this track, vocalist Julie Gore sings about being tired of living in the south and wanting to move to California to start a band (and get on the cover of Maximum RocknRoll... just like Black Flag). Meanwhile the Jerks, (Austin Griffith, Hampton Martin and Sarah Krock) strum and bang away with energy and invention. It's called California...

Judy And The Jerks - Biscuit Power

From Hattiesburg, Mississippi, whacked out weirdos Judy And The Jerks make their third appearance on the blog today and like their last write up the song I've chosen is a cover.

They recently released a new ep. Titled Roll On Summer Holidays it's a tour tape for their west coast tour. 4 original tracks plus a cover of a Gorilla Biscuits classic. You can find it name your price on Bandcamp :  https://judyandthejerks.bandcamp.com/album/roll-on-summer-holidays

This song begins with a slow, ominous build up. Imagine yourself on a roller coaster, slowly approaching the top of the hill. It's a little like that. Then the vocals kick in with a shouted "GO....." and we're over the peak and hurtling rapidly downwards. It's fast and furious, a total blast before we're soon levelling out and wanting to go again. This is Biscuit Power...

Gorilla Biscuit in your head
One more time and you'll be dead
Better watch out, Better be scared
Headed for the dragon's lair...

G-O-R-I double L-A
BISCUITS!

Judy And The Jerks - I Don't Mind

From Hattiesburg, Mississippi and tagged as "punk, sick, slam, weirdo, wacked out" on their Bandcamp page, Judy And The Jerks appeared on here earlier this year with a song from their Jan 2017 demo (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/judy-and-jerks-sweet-treat-for-me.html). They didn't hang about before following the demo up with the 3 songs ep and now a cover of a Buzzcocks classic has surfaced on Youtube. Before getting to that I'll point you in the direction of those first 2 releases. They're name your price so there's no excuse not to check them out...  https://judyandthejerks.bandcamp.com/

The band are a 4 piece who formed in October 2016 and feature members of Baghead and Big Bleach (Hampton Martin and Sarah Krock). Sonically they're a female fronted, off kilter buzzbomb of garage influenced punk fun. If you've been tempted to check out this update because you like The Buzzcocks, make sure you check out the band's original material too, they're worthy of your time.

  This is I Don't Mind....

Judy And The Jerks - Sweet Treat (For Me)

So far this week you've had the off kilter sounds of Booji Boys and Janitor Scum and as the Bandcamp tags for today's band include "sick" "slam" "weirdo" and "whacked out" you can probably guess that I've decided to run with the theme for at least one day more.

Judy And The Jerks are a band from Hattiesburg, Mississippi whom I know pretty much zilch about. As they've just released a debut demo they're obviously a new band, the solitary line of information on Sorry State's page for the cassette release of the demo informs me that they feature members of Big Bleach and more!

A review over on Boston Hassle raves over the cassette and says they play "sugar-coated garage-punk at whiplash speeds." My review (if I was any good at writing reviews) would say it's an infectiously frantic female fronted blast of scuzzy garage goodness with the lead track being a shout out to all those things such as milkshakes, french fries, ice cream and big cakes that possibly don't feature in a healthy diet but who gives a fuck, they're oh so bloody tasty. You can indulge yourself "name your price" here :  https://judyandthejerks.bandcamp.com/album/demo

This is Sweet Treat (For Me), be careful it doesn't rot your teeth.....
