Hood Rats - Fuck the Police

Hailing from Montreal, Hood Rats (https://www.facebook.com/HoodRatsMtl) featured on here 3 times back in 2018/19 with songs that I was describing as sharp blasts of primitive punk and rifftastic slices of trashy garage punk. Since then, they've released a Demo Tracks ep, 2022's Drop In Burn Out ep and both the Deep Cuts Singles Collection and the Rockefeller Funeral ep from last year all of which you can find here : https://hoodrats.bandcamp.com/

April 5th will see the release of a brand new 14 track album titled Crime, Hysteria & Useless Information. Judging by the lead single they've teased us with, it's going to be as equally as fast and furious as their earlier classics.

It'll be released on vinyl & digital download by the ever reliable Dirt Cult Records and you can pre order it here :  https://dirtcultrecords.bandcamp.com/album/crime-hysteria-useless-information

This song doesn't fuck around, it's a short, sharp blast across the bows of the boys in blue that should be played as loudly as possible. It's called Fuck the Police...

Hood Rats - Cheap Rent

If you were here for yesterday's update I mentioned that Friday saw the release of 2 highly anticipated pop punk albums but pop punk fans weren't the only people being spoilt this week with great new music, lovers of trashy, energetic garage rock were also treated to something a little bit special. Montreal three piece Hood Rats also unleashed their latest hard hitting lp and as expected, it's a blast. Titled 40oz Of Fury, it's 11 short, sharp blasts of primitive punk that rages out of the starting gate with a 72 second adrenaline blast called Exterminator and races to the finishing line without pausing for breath. You may remember track 2, Do Not Resuscitate, from a previous update (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/05/hood-rats-do-not-resuscitate.html), other amphetamine fuelled titles include Dead In The Street, Annihilation and Don't Kill My Buzz and it's fair to say that this album ain't going to kill anyone's buzz, quite the opposite, it'll leave listeners sweating and craving more. You can check it out here : https://hoodrats.bandcamp.com/album/40oz-of-fury

This track paints a picture of living in the wrong part of town but describes it as a pretty cool place. It's called Cheap Rent...

Spray painted, dilapidated, I call my home.
Hanging out in the streets, everybody gets stoned
Thrift stores, neon lights, that’s what I like
Convenience store, sells liquor and stays open late

Cheap rent wrong part of town

Car alarm, police siren, that’s what I like
Dive bars in the city cut loose on ladies night
Walking in black leather boots over broken glass
Refund empty bottles, we’re the working class

Five roommates, three dogs,
No tv, don’t got no job
Get stoned, make noise,
Die with a smile, live free die wild

Hood Rats - Do Not Resuscitate

I wrote a little about Montreal hardcore garage punkers Hood Rats last year when I posted a song from their excellent Trash Party album (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/05/hood-rats-hostile-takeover.html). A blast of a record, if you missed it you should go check it out   https://hoodrats.bandcamp.com/album/trash-party

They return to Just Some Punk Songs today as they're previewing a track from their next album. Unsurprisingly it's a rifftastic slice of trashy garage punk that'll go down a storm both in a live setting or blasting out of your headphones. Last time around I said Trash Party would leave you panting, sweaty and baying for more and it seems a certainty the new album will have the same effect. Another release to eagerly look forward to in another great year for punk music.

The song's called Do Not Resuscitate...

Hood Rats - Hostile Takeover

One of my favourite releases of 2018 so far is Target Earth, the excellent recent album by New Zealand kings of garage rock n roll The Cavemen. It's packed with primitive stompers that are both "batshit crazy" and very tuneful (https://slovenly.bandcamp.com/album/the-cavemen-nuke-earth-lp). The band that feature on today's update compare very favourably to them (which is as good a compliment as I can think of).

Hood Rats are from Montreal and they're bringing out a new album titled Trash Party. It's going to be on one of the year's most exciting labels, Girlsville (I recently featured their reissue of Coachwhip's Night Train album and they also released a couple of excllent demos and rarities comps by The Pristeens).

Described as a mixture of 80's hardcore and skate punk mixed with Motorhead's shredding and Rip Off Records' snottiness the album is truely wonderful. The band are a 3 piece featuring Tony Salador (drums/vocals), Troy Lockard (guitar) and JF Simoneau (bass) and boy do they kick up a racket. They're loud, fast and energetic. Their songs are short and catchy and the album will leave you panting, sweaty but baying for more. The cassette is due out on August 3rd (pre order now) but if that's too long to wait there's 10 tracks to check out on Bandcamp :  https://girlsville.bandcamp.com/album/hood-rats-trash-party

You can also download their Digital Wasteland album (which 50THIRDAND3RD described as "balls to the wall, cut throat rock n roll") free here :  https://hoodrats.bandcamp.com/releases

Whilst you're at it, give them a like on Facebook. They deserve your love :  https://www.facebook.com/HoodRatsMtl/

It didn't really matter which song I posted below, they're all great but I have to choose one so this is Hostile Takeover....

Condo fever spead the virus
The upper class live right beside us
Gentrification is here to stay
Take everything I like and throw them all away

Hostile Takeover
With a bulldozer

The cost of living goes through the roof
The poor get poorer ignore the truth
Don't need no lineups and disco bars
Can't spend my welfare on caviar
