Clowns - Does It Matter?

Staying in Australia today for the 4th appearance on Just Some Punk Songs from Melbourne 5 piece Clowns (https://www.facebook.com/clownsband). They formed in 2009 and have undergone a few line up changes down the years but currently feature Stevie Williams (vocals), Jake Laderman (drums), Jarrod Goon (guitar), Cam Rust (guitar) & Hanny Tilbrook (bass/vocals). Their most recent album, their 4th, was titled Nature/Nurture and it came out a couple of years ago and if you missed it you can check it out along with their previous releases here :  https://clownsband.bandcamp.com/

They've now returned with a brand new single and it's their catchiest song yet (maybe being signed to Fat Wreck Chords has mellowed them slightly?). It's still a big and beefy sound but this time around there's a little less of the hardcore and psychedelic influences and a little more melody. Not to say that melody hasn't always been there (in my last review I was suggesting Nature/Nurture was going to take them to a whole new level  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/03/clowns-i-wanna-feel-again.html) but this time it's dialled right up. It's a song that thrills. It's a feel good rush and it benefits immensely from the utilisation of Hanny duetting on vocals with the always impressive Stevie (more of this please!).

  It's called Does It Matter?

Clowns - I Wanna Feel Again

No strangers to this blog, Clowns are the Melbourne 5 piece that formed in 2009 and who seem to get better with every release. This bodes well for their upcoming 4th studio album which is called Nature/Nature and which is due for a 12th April release on Damaged Records (Aus/NZ) and Fat Wreck Chords (everywhere else). They've already fired up our expectations with a track called Prick and now they've teased out a new single (see below). You can pre order the album here :  https://damagedmusic.com.au/clowns/ or here : https://clownsband.bandcamp.com/album/nature-nurture

The band line up with Stevie Williams (vocals), Jake Laderman (drums), Jarrod Goon (guitar), William Robinson (guitar) and Hanny J (bass/vocals). You can get more details here :  https://www.facebook.com/clownsband/

Titled I Wanna Feel Again, the single starts slowly but soon moves up through the gears and morphs into a more familiar rocking sound. The production is slick but not too slick. It's a "poignant tale of perseverance" about battling on through mental health struggles. It' s about how you're told to avoid the kind of environments where your issues thrive but how the most unsafe place is often at home, alone with your thoughts.

One can only conclude the album is going to take the band to a whole new level...

I wake up everyday with a hole in my head and chest.
I needa feel something so I burn my arm on a cigarette, but if you said you were cold, I’d set myself on fire and try and use your existence to feel inspired, once again. You know I hate your guts, but you’re my one true friend? I swear I won’t give up, I wanna feel again. I went and saw my GP and they said my brain has a cold, try to get some rest and use this medicine to make the feelings go. They told me ‘Stevie, your issues will amplify, if you continue to allow environments where they thrive.’ You know I hate your guts, but you’re my one true friend? I swear I won’t give up, I wanna feel again. Don’t hang out in wrong crowds or walk around at night, I was taught. But, there is irony in that I’m most unsafe at home with my own thoughts. You know I hate your guts, but you’re my one true friend? I swear I won’t give up, I wanna feel again. I’m sitting up on my roof, looking out over Brunswick Street, and looking down, wondering… Hoping… Tomorrow will come and get me outta my head.

Clowns - Dropped My Brain

Last year I posted a single by Melbourne punks Clowns (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/clowns-destroy-evidence.html). It went down so well that it's a bit of a no brainer that they're back again now they've released a new single.

Their line up features Stevie Williams (vocals), Jake Laderman (drums), Rod Goon (guitar), Will Robinson (guitar) and Hanny J (bass/vocals). They've been together since 2009 and you can check out their music here : https://clownsband.bandcamp.com/  For more band info go here : https://www.clownsband.com/

If you're in the UK or Europe watch out for them soon in a venue near you...

They've a new album (their 3rd) scheduled for later this year, it'll be titled Lucid Again and this is one of the tracks that'll feature on it. Mixing hardcore and power pop to great effect, this is Dropped My Brain.....

Clowns - Destroy The Evidence

One of the songs that went down well on yesterday's Just Some Punk Songs show was the new single by a band from Melbourne called Clowns. (The show is saved here if anyone's interested : http://mixlr.com/mick-fletcher/showreel/just-some-punk-songs-250916/ ).  The band have been together since 2009 and are building up a healthy worldwide fanbase.

You can get the latest news here : http://www.clownsband.com/ and if  you want to check out their music (including the new single) then head in this direction : https://clownsband.bandcamp.com/

They were recently over in Europe bringing their energetic skate punk to the northern hemisphere but October will see them back on native shores where they'll be gigging with No Anchor and there's also another 7" imminent.

A snapshot of life on the road with Clowns, here's the video for Destroy The Evidence.....
