Accidente - Boys don’t cry

Regular readers will know I'm a fan of Madrid band Accidente (https://www.facebook.com/Accidentepunk). I last featured them on here only a month ago (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/12/accidente-atajos.html) but I noticed they've contributed a cover of one of my favourite songs to a new compilation album titled HCXHC - VOL VIII.

The comp is available from HARDCORE HITS CANCER and 100% of the donations will be earmarked for LA CASA DELS XUKLIS (afanoc.org), Barcelona, Spain. A foster home for children and adolescents with cancer and their families. You can find out more and get the comp here :  https://hardcorehitscancer.bandcamp.com/album/hcxhc-vol-viii

You'll recognise the song, it was a hit single for The Cure in 1979 and it's a crowd favourite Accidente have played live down the years. It's called Boys Don't Cry...

Accidente - Atajos

The year's coming to an end so my thoughts are turning towards putting together an end of year Top 100. Coincidently, the band who topped the 2016 chart (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-best-50-songs-of-2016.html) return to Just Some Punk Songs today with a track from their new split album with Toulouse quartet Nightwatchers (they also previously featured back in 2016 https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/07/nightwatchers-nightwatcher.html).

Accidente (https://www.facebook.com/Accidentepunk) are one of my favourite bands. The Madrid outfit can always be relied on to wrap what's often a deep and meaningful message inside a catchy as hell tune. On this release they contribute 4 songs, 3 original compositions and an uptempo cover of a single released in 1994 by Spanish trio Alarma (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMwcnMPDtrY).

The album will be available in January on vinyl from Stonehenge Records (http://stonehengerecords.com/mailorder/Search.php?Commander=0&selectpage=1&search=stone078) and there'll be a cassette version from inhumano (https://inhumano.org/). It's available now as a name your price download on Bandcamp :  https://accidente.bandcamp.com/album/accidente-nightwatchers-split

This is my pick of the bunch, it's called Atajos (Shortcuts)...

Me faltan las palabras
como a «The Sound»
Para decirte fuerte
que he fracasado
He perdido el momento
no supe priorizar
Que me faltó el valor
y te has marchado

Vivimos tan deprisa
Lloramos tan aisladxs
Buscamos mil excusas
Huimos tan deprisa
Peleamos tan aisladxs
Quemamos los atajos

Pienso que la distancia es a veces un
derecho
Cuando los malos tratos anidan en el
pecho
Tu púlpito de víctima no va a legitimar
Que para defenderte hieras a lxs demás

Vivimos tan deprisa
Morimos tan aisladxs
Buscamos mil excusas
Huimos tan deprisa
Peleamos tan aisladxs
Quemando los atajos
Y la vida se acaba.

*****

Words fail me, just like «The Sound» sang
When I try to tell you that I went wrong
I lost the moment, I didn’t choose right
I lacked the courage and now you’re gone

We live so fast
We cry so lonely
Looking for a thousand excuses
We ran away so fast
Such a lonely struggle
Burning all the shortcuts

Distance itself is sometimes a right
When mistreat nests in your chest
Your victim pulpit won’t legitimize
To defend yourself by hurting others

We live so fast
We die so lonely
Looking for a thousand
excuses
We ran away so fast
Such a lonely struggle
Burning all the shortcuts
Till life ends.

Accidente - Caníbal

As seems to have become an annual tradition, at the end of every year I chuck together a list of my favourite songs released during the previous 12 months. In 2016, the Just Some Punk Songs Top 50 (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-best-50-songs-of-2016.html) was topped by La Revuelta Real which was the closing track on Accidente's (https://www.facebook.com/Accidentepunk/) wonderful Pulso album. I've got to be honest, I've been wondering if we'd get more music from the band but out of the blue, BOOM! A new album.

Hailing from Madrid and featuring a line up of Ranzio (bass/backing vocals), Edu (drums), Oli (drums), Miguel (guitar/backing vocals), Pablo (guitar/keyboards/backing vocals) and Bianca (vocals), they've returned triumphantly with a motto of defeat belongs only to those who surrender. A declaration that if this has gone ahead it is because of the love of all of you who row when things get ugly suggests that the release of new music was never a given but happily their 4th full length is exactly the sort of classy melodic punk rock we've come to expect from Spain's best band. It's titled Canibal and whilst we have to wait a little longer for the physical release, the digital version is available now as a name your price download : https://accidente.bandcamp.com/album/can-bal

The album sounds great though this is unsurprising given it's by such a good band and it's been produced by Pablo Martinez and mastered by the legendary Mass Giorgini (Squirtgun, Common Rider, Screeching Weasel) at his Sonic Iguana Studio. There's 10 tracks, everyone a winner. Lyrics are in their native tongue, though this doesn't affect one's enjoyment, and the provided English translations reveals that both personal and political themes are the order of the day. The music is upbeat and very catchy even though the subject matter may be somewhat deeper. Hopefully the next album won't be another 4 years away.

This is the title track, it's titled Canibal...

ME SIENTO SOLA EN ESTE BAILE
Y EN LAS DISTANCIAS CORTAS
IMAGINO COMPROMISO
DONDE SOLO HAY SOMBRAS
UN MEDIO PARA UNA META
FUGAZ, DE USAR Y TIRAR
UNA PIEZA DE RECAMBIO
QUE SE PUEDE DESECHAR

MERCANCÍA, COMPRAVENTA CANÍBAL
Y ESTA LÍQUIDA EXISTENCIA VACÍA

ME SIENTO SOLA EN ESTE BAILE
Y EN LAS DISTANCIAS CORTAS
IMAGINO RELACIONES
DONDE SOLO HAY SOMBRAS
ENCUENTROS MONODOSIS
CUERPOS PARA CONSUMIR
UNA PÍLDORA PAL EGO
QUE SE OLVIDA FÁCIL

MERCANCÍA, COMPRAVENTA CANÍBAL
Y ESTA LÍQUIDA EXISTENCIA VACÍA

---

I FEEL ALONE IN THIS DANCE
AND IN THE SHORT DISTANCES
I IMAGINE COMMITMENT
WHERE THERE ARE ONLY SHADOWS
JUST A MEAN FOR A GOAL
EASY, USE AND DISPOSE
A SPARE PART
THAT CAN BE DISCARDED
MERCHANDISE, CANNIBALTRADING
AND THIS EMPTY LIQUID EXISTENCE
I FEEL ALONE IN THIS DANCE
AND IN THE SHORT DISTANCES
I IMAGINE RELATIONSHIPS
WHERE THERE ARE ONLY SHADOWS
SINGLE-DOSE MEETINGS
BODIES TO BE CONSUMED
A PILL FOR THE EGO
EASILY FORGETTABLE

MERCHANDISE, CANNIBAL TRADING
AND THIS EMPTY LIQUID EXISTENCE

Accidente - ¿A cambio de qué?

Not long ago on Facebook someone was asking people who their favourite Spanish band was and I didn't need to think twice before replying Accidente. As it's been a while since they've released new material, the appearance of a number of reissues and the release of a compilation album on Malaysian label Hardcore Detention was all the excuse I needed to feature them again on here. A crowdfunding appeal was recently set up to help them out and fund their flight back to Madrid after they were deported from Indonesia whilst touring south east Asia. Because of this they've had to cancel their Philippines gigs and couldn't get to Manila to catch their paid for flight home. Fortunately their fans ensured they received enough to get home and their passports have now been returned.

The compilation album that's just been released is titled ACCIDENTE '2014-2016' (Southeast Tour Special Edition) and it gathers together the tracks that featured on the band's 2nd and 3rd albums plus their split with Duelo. It's a 23 track delight from a band at the top of their game. Available on cd and digital download, you can find it here :   https://hardcoredetonation.bandcamp.com/album/hdx021-19-accidente-2014-2016-southeast-asia-tour-special-edition

I could have chosen pretty much any of the songs to highlight, they're all great (one of them even ended up claiming the number 1 spot in my Top 50 songs of 2016 chart :   https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2016/12/the-best-50-songs-of-2016.html), but today I'm going with the opening track from their Amistad y Rebelión album. This is ¿A cambio de qué? ....

---------------------------------------------------------
I see you and feel things / that I can easily compare / Because it makes no change whether you're legal or not / 'Cause we are not different / and we suffer the same / we are sold and humiliated in exchange for a wage / It`s cold on the street / and I want to get close to you / and tell you to quit / but I look at myself… / What infamous eight hours that gobble my passion! / stealing affection and understanding from my people! / And yes...I can pay the bills / I may be exemplary / but at the end of the day / I cannot dream anymore / unsatisfying cravings, foolish needs / I don’t want to work to build this lie! / All our energy, all our joy… / in exchange for what?

Accidente - Pulso

Accidente are a hard edged but pretty damn catchy Spanish Anarcho-Punk band who are based between Getafe and Madrid and who have been together since 2010. They released a debut, S/T album in 2011 and followed it up a couple of years later with Amistad y Rebelion (Friendship And Rebellion). Round about this time they toured the USA and Mexico.

Their influences include The Vicious, Massysteri, Leftover Crack, Minor Threat and The Clash. As they sing in their native Spanish, Its not easy to understand the lyrics but fortunately they provide the English translations on their bandcamp page  https://accidente.bandcamp.com/album/pulso

They've just released album number 3, Pulso, and you can snap it up for free here :  http://accidentepunk.blogspot.com.es/. This summer they'll be heading back to the USA for a tour which will include an appearance at the Latino Fest in New York.

This is the title track of the new album .....

Dignity does not mean
you do not scream when it hurts
when you bit the dust
and you are overcome by your demons
It means watching the fire in your eyes
it is seeing you grit your teeth,
it is you ... convinced and heading forward,
the passion in your face, it means living...
It is that tension between desire and reality,
It means that you may stumble but you are not afraid to fail
take off again and go get some more
The violent breathing,
anxiety, adrenaline
wounds that are inherent to the race
of setting fire to this life
For me life is a pulse
that means coexisting with the problem
and maybe we will not win
But we won't lose either...
Because there is no better way for me to face the gale,
to corner it and jump,
than knowing that I can trust
