Sympos (https://www.facebook.com/sympathychips) are an oi! band from Waterford, Ireland featuring a line up of Tony O Keeffe (Vocals), Aaron Mulhall (Drums), Paul Power (Guitar) & David Cleere (Electric Bass Guitar). They've already released one of the albums of the year in the form of To The Dogs (https://sympos.bandcamp.com/album/to-the-dogs).
They've just released a track from an upcoming split with Lost Legion which will soon be available via Mr Face Records & Tough Ain't Enough. It's every bit as good as the album was. It's called Welcome To Ballybricken...
I just noticed they recently released a split ep with a band called No Guard (please listen to Love Song by No Guard and let me know if it's a cover as not only is it great, it's bugging me as I'm sure I've heard it before! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRfhb0iMDY4).
The song speeds along at a kind of Hard Rock nearly Metal pace. But there are surprises in store! The song will stop & start on a day, shifting into some outstanding vocals from Ricky and dare I say almost "Techno" beats. This song will totally catch you off guard. I had to listen to it a couple times just to grasp everything going on.
This was a collaboration with Billy Pfister who handles the guitars, bass & keyboards while Ricky croons his heart out and smashes some drums. "The Rose Window" is actually my favorite song so far in this ongoing project. We're up to 5 singles already & Summer's right around the corner. Stripe up & get those Chucks moving to this banger of a song!
On the cathedral, there’s a beautiful window Shaped like a mystical rose With illustrations telling tender tales Those stained-glass visions, so intricate up close
And that’s our love, that’s our love A thousand beautiful heartbeats That’s the rose window, it’s our love
The daylight through the stained-glass changes Just like love changes in time But you and I will stay picturesque If you keep your hand in mine
And that’s our love, that’s our love A thousand beautiful heartbeats That’s the rose window, it’s our love
Through every storm, we’re unbreakable Devotion’s our greatest blessing Our bond is mighty but love is fragile To protect it is love’s true lesson
And that’s our love, that’s our love A thousand beautiful heartbeats That’s the rose window
And that’s our love, that’s our love A thousand beautiful heartbeats That’s the rose window, it’s our love
And that’s our love, that’s our love A thousand beautiful heartbeats That’s the rose window, it’s our love
And that’s our love, that’s our love A thousand beautiful heartbeats That’s the rose window, it’s our love
It's titled Bloody Minded and it sees the band combine gruff vocals and pop sensibilities to great effect. You can find it as a name your price download on Bandcamp https://thebuzzers.bandcamp.com/album/bloody-minded-ep
This song came out as a single in January and it's a great way to start the ep. It's called Pick A Fight...
So, after a night out in the pub I awake at 8.45am. My day is my own. I decide to make a cuppa and have one last look around on the internet to see if I can find anything good enough to squeeze onto the playlist for this evening's Just Some Punk Songs show. I also make the mistake of browsing Twitter to see if anything's been happening whilst I slept. Damn it's depressing on there. Why are so many people horrible shits?
But it wasn't a completely down heartening early morning. I was on a different site and stumbled across a band from Glasgow that brightened things up. They're called KUTE (hopefully it's pronounced Cute as that's what I'll be going with when I play them on the show) and they announced themselves with a demo single a couple of years ago https://kutetheband.bandcamp.com/album/demo
The 2 tracks from it have been redone and are now on the band's debut album along with 8 more songs. The album is titled Intrigue/Fatigue and it's been attracting the attention of BBC Radio 6. You can check it out here : https://neversleeplife.bandcamp.com/album/intrigue-fatigue
The band, Amy (Vocals), Fletch (Bass), Kenni (Guitar) & Matty (Drums) will be embarking on their first UK Tour this month supporting Fentanyl so watch out for them if they're playing near you.
This is the song that first made me sit up and take notice. It's called Man On The Street...
Perverts Again hail from Cleveland, Ohio and feature Nathan Ward from Knowso, Cruelster (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2024/02/cruelster-i-love-it.html), Smooth Brain & The Carp. They've been around for over a decade and have garnered comparisons with such luminaries as Devo and The Fall. I think I first became aware of them when they released their 2018 album Friday Night Light.
So what do I know about Tommy? Not a massive amount to be honest. They're a (presumably) new melodic punk quartet from Minneapolis with a line up of Audrey (guitar/vocals), Britt (guitar/vocals), Felix (bass) & Mike (drums). They've just released a 9 track Demo 2025.
It's catchy as hell. A masterful blending of energetic punk and power pop. It occupies a similar ball park as other Just Some Punk Songs favourites such as The Prize and Rabbit. High energy, fun, melodic vocals and great guitar work. It's an extremely promising introduction. Check it out...
I've had today's song lined up to post for a couple of week's but laziness has held things up a bit. Often when I don't post something pretty much straight away it drifts to the bottom of the pile and gets overlooked in favour of even newer music but on this occasion, that ain't going to be the case. It's a jaunty little number and it deserves your attention.
Gas Station Boner Pills (https://www.facebook.com/GasStationBonerPills404) are from Atlanta, Georgia. They've a new album out in a couple of days which I'm sure will be well worth checking out. It's going to be titled Welcome To The Shit Show.
What will it sound like I hear you ask...
Well check out this recent single. It's fun. It's energetic. It's a song about a topic that's bothered people for generations. It's called Is Your Mother Single? (Can your father fight?)...
This is possibly the most important release to come out of the "Underground" this year so far. Once upon a time terms like "Post-Punk" and "New Wave" actually meant something important. It meant this was something NEW! Something you'd never heard before. A style of music that re-created itself with every new band and record. Over the years they've now become "genres". Very sad in my opinion. We rarely hear bands anymore that create their own "sound". Gone are the days of PIL, Magazine, Gang Of 4, Killing Joke or The Fall.
Well MSPAINT are here in 2025 to remind you just how important that is! With lyrics that stand up for the down-trodden & the beaten down. The undesirables of today. This is NOT pretty music for pretty people. This 5 song EP (No Separation) reaches it's nadir with the anthem "Angel". The first time I heard this song I put it on repeat and cried my eyes out! MSPAINT have done something no band has done in quite some time for me - Give Me Hope!
WATCH! LISTEN! ENJOY! The video for "Angel" . THE Anthem for 2025!
I saw an angel last night Doused in gasoline Flowers grew from their skin And withered in the fumes Is this a dream or mirage Manifestation of pain Dive deep past the heat Break down how I really feel
