Night Birds - Assault

I'm sure you all know and love New Jersey 5 piece Night Birds (https://www.facebook.com/NGHTBRDS/), the hardcore punk band that features Joe Keller (Bass), Brian Gorsegner (Vocals), PJ Russo (Guitar), Darick Sater (Drums) & Mike Hunchback (Guitar). You probably also know they've just released a new compilation album called Fresh Kills Vol. II. It's a follow up to their first singles collection which was released in 2011 and this time around we're treated to tracks from the 2013 "Maimed for the Masses" EP, 2014 "Monster Surf" instrumental EP, 2016 "Who Killed Mike Hunchback?" demo EP, as well as various covers by the Effigies, Big Boys and GG Allin & the Jabbers, some never before released. Needless to say it's essential listening, it's mastered by Stephen Egerton (Descendents/All) and sounds great so check it out :    https://night-birds.bandcamp.com/album/fresh-kills-vol-ii Initial proceeds from the comp will go towards Common variable immune deficiency (CVID) research.

With a band this good, you could pretty much pick out any of the songs to highlight below so I'm going with one of the new ones. This is a cover of a song by Texan punks Big Boys that featured on their 1983 album Lullabies Help The Brain Grow. It's fast, loud and like the best hardcore songs it's completely flab free. It's called Assault...

I'm walking down the street
And everywhere I go
Fools are always yelling
They won't leave me alone
You think you've got a right
To scream and yell at me?
You never realize that
What you do is wrong
ASSAULT ASSAULT
ASSAULT ASSAULT
ASSAULT ASSAULT
ASSAULT ASSAULT
Common sense tells you to
Mind your own business
You go out of your way
To cause a scene
Why do they say the U.S.A. is
The land of the free?
Don't tell me that my freedom
Is just another dream
ASSAULT ASSAULT
ASSAULT ASSAULT

  1. https://stiffhombre.bandcamp.com/track/wise-up-night-birds Here's another Big Boys cover that Night Birds did on a Big Boys Tribute album (which is well worth picking up). Assault is covered by a different band on this.
