Hard Left - Kicking It Off
If you look over to where it says labels, you'll notice I usually classify the songs as punk or garage or maybe hardcore or whatever easy (and not always totally accurate) genre classification comes to mind. It's a bit pointless but other blogs seemed to do it so I went with the flow. Today's song will see the introduction of 2 new labels, hard-mod and utopian Oi. Maybe I should just file it labelled "bloody great."
Hard Left hail from Oakland, California and feature members who've featured in a number of highly influential bands including Boyracer (who featured last year : http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/boyracer-he-gets-me-so-hard.html ), Black Tambourine and Lunchbox. Some of you might know lead vocalist Mike Schulman better as the founder of the legendary Slumberland Records.
There's plenty of info about them on their Facebook or Bandcamp pages if you want to read more but in brief, they're a band that aim to explore left wing political ideas whilst having fun and releasing great punk records. From what I've heard, they've been releasing a song a week from their forthcoming We Are Hard Left album, they're succeeding on all counts. Check them out here : https://hardleft.bandcamp.com/album/we-are-hard-left
Possibly my pick of the songs released so far is the anthemic Kicking It Off...
Making do with what we didn’t choose
We can never lose
Now we’re international
What’s to be done, what’s there to do?
It’s all up to me
It’s all up to you
Cause we are everywhere
We’re kicking it off, we’re kicking it off
Cause we don’t have a care
We’re kicking it off, we’re kicking it off
Cause we’re just ordinary
We’re kicking it off
Comrade do you hear the sound?
We’re kicking it down to the ground
Cause we are everywhere
We’re kicking it off, we’re kicking it off
Cause we don’t have a care
We’re kicking it off, we’re kicking it off
Cause we’re extraordinary
We’re kicking it off
Labels:
