UkePunk - Overspill

UkePunk (https://www.facebook.com/UkePunk/) are the Ramsbottom 4 piece who formed back in 2009 and who've spent the last decade or so releasing music about the important things in life such as motorways, right wing tabloids, wannabe James Bonds, traffic wardens and celebrity lexicographers. They line up with Paulus Device (Uke), Andy Moore (Bass), Luke Taylor (Percussion) and Glenn Jackson (Keys).

They're releasing a new album in the new year, their 3rd, and it'll be titled Overspill. For a limited period, the title track is available on Bandcamp as a name your price download  https://ukepunk.bandcamp.com/track/overspill

It shows a more serious side of a band that are known for their wry sense of observational humour. With a cry of Fuck The Tories, they comment thus; "Anyone who grew up on a council estate or relocated from our major cities will understand the sentiment of this song. We were and are the overspill generation." It's about climbing trees, jumpers for goalposts, knock down ginger and scrumping. It's about humble beginnings and being proud of your roots.

  It's called Overspill...

UkePunk - Civil Enforcement Officer

UkePunk (https://www.facebook.com/UkePunk/) hail from the Greater Manchester town of Ramsbottom and formed in 2009. They feature a line up of  Paulus Device (Uke & Vocals), Andy Moore (Bass & vocals), Glenn Jackson (Keys & Vocals) and Luke Taylor (Percussion). They appeared on here earlier this year with a Daily Mail bashing song that was taken from their impressive I Blame The Parents album https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/05/ukepunk-watch-out-daily-fail-song.html

And now they're back with a new single.

Inspired by frontman Paulus Device receiving parking tickets on his last two visits to London, it contains the band's trademark acerbic humour but the striking thing on this release is the bass. There's a definite dub/reggae influence going down. Think The Clash, The Ruts or maybe Basement 5. It's a song asking the question, "mr traffic warden, how do you sleep when you're profiting from other people's misery?"As they admit though, it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it...

You can get the single as a name your price download here :    https://ukepunk.bandcamp.com/track/civil-enforcement-officer

UkePunk - Watch Out (The Daily Fail Song)

As you may have noticed, it's Sunday. This means at 8pm tonight (UK time) there'll be another Just Some Punk Songs show, another hour's worth of great new punk releases. Included will be a (different) song from the band I'm featuring on here today. Hopefully you'll listen in (details :   https://www.facebook.com/events/703047660098086/).

UkePunk are from Ramsbottom, Greater Manchester. Starting out a decade ago playing ukulele led versions of punk standards (Ramones, Pistols, Stranglers, Specials etc) they soon started writing their own material and have put out several releases singing about the likes of James Bond, fracking, northern girls and Countdown lexicographer Susie Dent. Their debut album was 2014's Punk Police, their sophomore album is out now on cd and digital formats and it's called I Blame The Parents. 12 tracks of wry humour and social observation, you can check it out here :   https://ukepunk.bandcamp.com/album/i-blame-the-parents

The line up of the band is Paul Davies (uke/vocals), Andy Moore (bass/vocals), Glenn Jackson (keys/vocals) and Luke Taylor (percussion). It's taken a while to record the album (a new baby, broken bones, shingles etc) but it's been worth the wait. They remind me a little of the likes of I, Ludicrous or possibly The Humdrum Express (or maybe even Chas And Dave if they'd been born along the M66 instead of within the sound of Bow Bells). They're definitely worth checking out   https://www.facebook.com/UkePunk/

The song I'm featuring on here today fires a shot across the bow of a right wing tabloid that delights in the spreading of hatred and mistrust. It's called Watch Out (The Daily Fail Song)...
