  A sad goodbye today to Nottingham rockers The Hip Priests (https://www.facebook.com/thehippriests). Sadly, after a glorious 18 years they're calling it a day. 

  But they're going out on a high with farewell ep We Become Nothing. 6 final tracks of ferocious garage punk goodness, a fitting finale from a great band.

  I guess if you're going to bow out, do it on a high. Leave 'em wanting more.

The Hip Priests - Welcome To Shit Island

  One of the UK's most prolific (and best) bands, The Hip Priests, are back with a video for a song that'll feature on their upcoming album Stand For Nothing. The album is released on March 11th, it'll be available from Gods Candy Records (Canada), Ghost Highway Recording (Spain), Digital Warfare Records (USA) and Speedowax Records (UK). On the evidence of this song, it's gonna blow people away.

  Honing their skills since their formation in 2006, these garage punkers are being waxed lyrical about by all corners of the punk community. RPM Online is already calling Stand For Nothing "one of, if not the most important garage punk albums of 2019" whilst Away From Life is advising you to put aside your New Bomb Turks and Hellacopters records. I've not heard the album yet so can only drool in eager anticipation but I'm sure come March I'll be cranking up the volume and playing the hell out of it.

The Hip Priests - Loose

  The "big hit" with the folk in the chatroom on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show (the saved version of which will be uploaded to Mixcloud on Sunday after it's been aired a couple of times in the Far East) was a cover version of a song by The Stooges which featured on their classic 1970 album, Fun House.

  The last time The Hip Priests featured on here was back in February (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/02/the-hip-priests-no-time-like-right-now.html). Some bands go years without reappearing but The Hip Priests are one of those mega prolific bands that release enough great new material they could probably feature every month. The Hip Priests - No Time (Like Right Now)

 

  The Hip Priests are from Lincoln & Nottingham, have been together since 2006 and describe themselves as playing overdriven garage punk rock n roll. They claim to be the inbred, oversexed, white trash sons of Iggy Pop, Johnny Thunders, Lemmy and Handsome Dick Manitoba. If you're new to the band, I think by now you have a good idea what to expect.
