Ruler - Action

Japanese garage punk heroes Ruler (https://www.facebook.com/Rulertheband) are back with a new single, their 3rd following a couple of winners which both also featured on here ( https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/04/ruler-gimme-some-noise.htmlhttps://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/09/ruler-jeanie-jeanie-jeanie.html).

This time around Otoya (Vocals, Harmonica) Fink (Guitar) & Azu (Bass) have teamed up with Kannana Speedcats drummer Combat who takes over on vocals for a punked up version of The Loco-Motion. Written by Gerry Goffin & Carole King and originally a 1962 hit for Little Eva (and later covered by the likes of Grand Funk Railroad and Kylie Minogue), it's never sounded better.

The song I'm highlighting today though is the flip side which boasts an impressive bit of harmonica work by Otoya which really makes the song.

It's released as a limited edition 7" to coincide with a limited edition cassette tape that was a Japan only release. Only a very small amount of these will be available in the US and Europe. You can get it from Secret Mission Records : https://secretmissionrecords.bandcamp.com/album/loco-motion

Ruler - Jeanie Jeanie Jeanie

Having to find an hour's worth of great new punk music to play on the Just Some Punk Songs show every week isn't always the easiest task in the world though it's made much simpler by awesome labels such as Secret Mission Records who's every release seems to be a smash. Today I'm featuring their latest garage punk stomper.

Ruler are from Tokyo and appeared on here a few months ago with a track from their debut single (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/04/ruler-gimme-some-noise.html). Now they're back with their Second Single and it's another classic cut of garage punk that'll delight budget rock fans everywhere. With only 250 copies of the vinyl version available in the US and Europe it's sure to sell out pretty much immediately but you can try and snap it up (or go for the digital download) here :  https://secretmissionrecords.bandcamp.com/album/second-single

As you'd expect of a band featuring members of Teengenerate, The Raydios and The Young Ones, both tracks on the single are a riot. What some of you may not know, the A side is a cover of a song by Eddie Cochran which was a single on Liberty Records in 1958 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKVRaLzgbAI). Breathing new life into an old classic, this is Jeanie Jeanie Jeanie...

Ruler - Gimme Some Noise

Ruler are a garage punk band from Tokyo who feature Fink, the guitarist of legendary bands Teengenerate and The Raydios. The band also boasts guitarist Azumi Omori (The Raydios/The Young Ones), drummer Rayco (Triple Junk) and vocalist Yutaka "Otoya" Yamamoto (Intimate Fags).

Earlier this year they released their debut single on Secret Mission Records and like the Boys Order song I posted a couple of weeks ago from the same label it's hellishly impressive. If you haven't yet checked it out then do so immediately....  https://secretmissionrecords.bandcamp.com/album/ruler-7

The single features 2 tracks, Tiger on one side and the song that you'll find below on the flip. Both well worth your time but this one is my favourite. I played it on last week's Just Some Punk Songs show and the chatroom folk were well and truly wowed. Primitive, timeless and a rallying call for those of us who like our music to be loud and exciting, this is Gimme Some Noise. It should go without saying but play loud!
