Louis Lingg and the Bombs - Manspreading on the Metro

Come the revolution, it's going to have a great soundtrack. Hopefully provided by Paris anarcho/techno punks Louis Lingg and the Bombs (https://www.facebook.com/louislinggandthebombs).

They were a regular feature on Just Some Punk Songs a few years ago with this possibly being my favourite track by them https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2015/05/louis-lingg-and-bombs-i-wish-i-was-dead.html

Are they still as good as they were back then? On the evidence of their new ep I'd have to give a resounding yes in reply.

The ep's titled Can You Hear The Uproar? It's 3 new songs plus 3 instrumental versions. It's music to get your body moving and your mind working. It's the sound of a band channeling their anger in a direction that allows them to have a little more fun than many contemporary acts. Maybe think Chumbawamba mixed with Atari Teenage Riot?

This is the lead track, of which they say, "I wrote Manspreading on the Metro about my friend and Colleague Yves who committed suicide because of our director at work. This director lied to us and said he died in his sleep. His wife found out about the lie and told us that he committed suicide because of the director. What an absolute monster that man is. It was originally a grunge song but Octave rewrote it to make it a techno rock song."

It's called Manspreading on the Metro...

Verse 1 (He’s) Slouched on the subway Lazy, lack of poise I knew him from work That asshole from accounts He’s looking right through me (I) Think he might be dead No such luck Fucker just doesn’t care He fired my workmates (He) didn’t even blink (A) day of screams He didn’t even hear And now he manspreads A greasy metaphor Taking up space Close your fucking legs Close your fucking legs Prechorus Stop stop the spread! Chorus X2 Man (down) on the metro Legs spreading wide Why aie aie aie! Stabbed him with my stiletto Legs spreading wide Why aie aie aie! Verse 2 The day my friend died (A)Hopeless suicide (He) told us he passed Peaceful, in his sleep You fucking liar You grubby fucking suit Taking up space Close your fucking legs Close your fucking legs! Prechorus Hey dude! It’s rude! Two seats Stop stop the spread! Chorus Man (down) on the metro Legs spreading wide Why aie aie aie! Stabbed him with my stiletto Legs spreading wide Why aie aie aie!

Louis Lingg And The Bombs - Ducks In A Row

I've got to be honest and admit that I'm a bit baffled by the record on today's update. It's taken from a new 7 track ep (mini lp?) by Paris anarcho punks Louis Lingg And The Bombs. It's titled Made Of Fakes and it's the first pop-punk record in the world augmented by AI tech. According to vocalist Josh, they wanted every single unique song generation that the computer spits out to be totally listenable with real lyrics and vocals. They wanted to show that AI is not only about generative techno, electro or avant-garde classical music. To be honest it all sounded a bit bolloxy and even Josh told me the record is a shit concept one but not to worry as there's a really good one coming soon.

But hang on! It's not a bit bolloxy and Josh is being a bit disingenuous as it's really bloody good. You can get more details on the making of the record, find a link to a site where you can generate your own music and download Made Of Fakes "name your price" here :   https://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/album/made-of-fakes-2

The ep as a whole is great fun, the songs all clock in at just over the 3 minute mark and they're all extremely catchy. Fans of the band needn't worry that these AI generated tracks differ vastly from the band's usual style, there's still plenty of similarities. The song I'm featuring today is very much a case in point, it's called Ducks In A Row...

Louis Lingg And The Bombs - Sheena Is Too Old

Parisienne punk-rock-garage-electro-big beat-pop-anarcho saviours of the two and a half minute pop song are back with a new ep. They haven't hung around as their album, Favela Ninja has only just been released on limited edition blue vinyl (http://www.rockufo.fr/product/favela-ninja-vinyle). The new ep is titled Kiiroichurippu : Hopeless Love In The Age Of The Glitch. It's not what you'd call your typical punk record, it is very good (think J-Rock meets Euro Dance!) and you can check it out here : https://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/album/kiiroichurippu-hopeless-love-in-the-age-of-the-glitch-2  Snap it up, it's name your price.

This is the lead track and it's one of the best things the band have done. Way back when the kids were all hopped up and ready to go, Sheena was a vibrant young thing ready to break away. The Sheena in this song is feeling her age.

This is Sheena Is Too Old...

Alternative - alternative facts abound

around the world - she’s caught up in a storm of lies
She feels her a-age, computer noise, no help at all

She cries alo-one, Coping with a loss of hope.

Verse 2

rasping bre-eath - of a wild and twisted world

She can’t acce-ept, prozac pulsing through her viens

Scared on stre-eet - but she knows it’s all a lie

feels obsole-ete - as if her friends all think she died.

Oh oh oh

Prechorus
the truth is always one step behind.

You think you understand how fucked up this world is?
or
The truth slowly slips away as we drown in chaos!

Chorus
Sheena is too old!
dumpster diving got her down

Louis Lingg and the Bombs - Grindstone

Louis Lingg And The Bombs have a new album out. The Paris band's 3rd full length is called Favela Ninja and vinyl versions will be available "sooner or later." Digitally you can find it name your price on Bandcamp  https://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/album/favela-ninja

The first single from the album can be found below. As with the previous couple of times the band has appeared on this blog (Destroy Civilisation & I Wish I Was Dead), they've taken a seemingly down beat subject and turned it into an upbeat song. I asked Vocalist Josh what the single is about and he replied... "I wrote the song after two of my friends died at work (I was a teacher and it's quite a stressful profession!). The lyrics are strongly influenced by the anarchist writer Bob Black's The Abolition Of Work. That was three years ago when we started working on the album, scraping a few hours of recording here and there and always perfecting the songs... I quit my job and now I'm a full time music producer so I suppose it's a happy ending!"

Just one of the many pop punk molotovs from the album, this is Grindstone....

Top 10 French Punk Songs Chosen By Josh Louis Lingg

Some of you will know that on occasion I ask various people connected with the punk music scene if they'll submit a top 10 of their favourite songs. Happily a good few of these fine people are happy to do so, many of them also being kind enough to add comments as well. One such generous soul was Josh Louis Lingg who's a member of anarcho punks Louis Lingg And The Bombs. This was Josh's original top 10 and also a link to his band's music : http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/top-10-songs-chosen-by-josh-louis-lingg.html

https://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/

The reason Josh returns today is that I noticed amongst the recent top 10's there was one featuring Estonian punk bands and one made up of songs from Canada. Deciding it'd be fun to try and obtain a few more lists from different countries I asked Josh if he could list his favourite French punk songs and I'm grateful to him for going beyond the call of duty. Over to you Josh, many thanks.....

 1)  Metal Urbain: Panik

The all time classic example of fucked up french electro punk shit. I’ve hung out
with Eric Debris from the band a few times and we talked about record production
techniques. Cool!

 2)  Oberkampf: Couleurs sur Paris

Anthemic as fuck. My all time fave song about Paris. I’ve hung out with some of the members of this band too. Paris is like that. Most of the original punks are still there and rocking the shitty little venues. Small town!

3a and 3b)  Les Olivensteins: Fier de rien faire

One of the all time french greats. Les Thugs (an amazing band!) did an awesome cover of it too so I kill two birds with one stone:

 4)  Les Dogs: Too much class for the neighbourhood

My and our keyboardist’s favourite french garage rock band

 5)  Berurier Noir: Porcherie

This band were a kind of fucking amazing postmodern circus joke. One of the most influential bands in France. This song is about the french National Front who were quite small back in the 80s. Who would have thought that fascism would become the dominant political party in 2015? They were visionaries! The live version is better than the record for this one btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpH0gre8AQw The ex-manager of Les Berurier Noir is going to release a 7 inch by us! So that’s pretty damn cool!

 6)  Underground Railroad: Watch and Play

I produced this song for this now defunct band. I love those kids! They rocked Paris about 10 years ago!

 7)   Dead Boobs: Menilmontant

I produced this song too and this band are rocking Paris right fucking now!

8) Sons of Buddha : SOB

I like songs with whoa whoas and na na nas. Sue me!

 9)   Les Prouters: A poil sur la lune

This band have been playing forever and are as amazing now as they have been for 20 years. We’ve played with them a shit ton of times! They have surprisingly few songs on You Tube. I suppose they could be luddites... There’s a good chance of that knowing them!

10)   Les Marie Salope: Marie couche toi la

awesome song by a band that just fucking ruled the scene 5 years ago. We played and toured together. You can imagine our misadventures. The music just oozes mischief and total decadence. Interesting music production tip: it was mastered by distorting the fuck out an old school tape and then doing it again! Mad! But it works!

Honourable mentions:

Les Versaillaises a Moustache - ZOMBI

We cover this song in our live gigs. It’s one of our all time favourite french rock songs but it doesn’t exist on You Tube. I can’t find it anywhere else either. Damn! Here’s us playing it live with weird audience participation. I can sing it in tune now… sometimes!

Les Wampas: George Marchais

Because they’re probably the most popular french punk band

and we played with a couple of the members recently who also play in this band :

Sugar and Tiger:

Edouard Nenez et les Princes de Bretagnes: Connard en camping Car
would have made the list but the fucking publishers of AC/DC censored it.

Burning Heads are a great band but I could only find this live version of the Arno (our guitarist) wanted to put on the list:

Louis Lingg And The Bombs - I Wish I Was Dead (Remastered)

Acid rain is stinging your eyes as you marvel at the crumbling city walls

around you. It's the end of the world and the last cop wants to beat you to

death for planting the last flower without a permit. Tear gas makes you

claw at your face as you gasp at the beauty of the sunset. Red upon red

upon red.

"Must be all the pollution", you laugh, before you lose consciousness for the

last time...

This is one of those songs I want to highlight a little more than usual, a song that immediately jumped out at me and one that'll no doubt end up in my end of year "best of" list. It's a bit of a strange beast, read the lyrics and you'll expect a downbeat, depressing or possibly angry sound but it's nothing like that. Despite the bleak lyrics it's one of the catchiest, most upbeat songs you'll hear. Hopefully it'll find the audience it deserves.

Louis Lingg And The Bombs were featured on here a few months ago (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/louis-lingg-and-bombs-destroy.html) and although it'd normally be a bit too soon to have them back, they've kicked down the Just Some Punk Songs' front door and demanded entry.

As mentioned previously, they're an anarcho-punk band from Paris who take their name from the 19th century German immigrant and anarchist Louis Lingg.

They've a new album in the works but whilst we await that they've released a mini album, called Songs For A Tear Gas Sunset, which contains today's song and which you can check out "name your price" here :  https://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/album/songs-for-a-tear-gas-sunset

This is the extremely depressing and upbeat I Wish I Was Dead.....

Oh, it gets worse, it gets worse, it gets worse

the future
seems so bleak

So, our lives, corroding, corroding away
Acid rain
burns my skin

whoa uh uh!

And we wait, for cancer, for cancer to form
for the norm
is to die

And we watch, and we watch, and we watch the earth die

Jumpin off a bridge
Would be more fun

Chorus:
Oh, I wish I was dead
And oh, I wish you were dead
Oh, I wish I was dead
And oh, I wish you were dead

Oh, the great, great depression
This is the great, great depression
Oh, the great, great depression
This is the great, great depression

Oh, they take more, they take more, they take more

fucking rich
bloodsuckers

Oh it feels like I'm drowning I'm drowning in shit

Won't submit
Rather die

Oh, I wish I was dead
And oh, I wish you were dead
Oh, I wish I was dead
And oh, I wish you were dead

Oh, the great, great depression
This is the great, great depression
Oh, the great, great depression
This is the great, great depression

Louis Lingg And The Bombs - Destroy Civilisation

Here's a song that I only heard for the first time yesterday, it's such an upbeat, feel good record that i had to post it in here.

Louis Lingg And The Bombs are an energetic, political, anarcho-punk band from Paris who are influenced by the likes of The Dickies, The Briefs and The Epoxies and who feature Josh (guitar/vocals), Arno Life (guitar/vocals), Julie Hate (vocals), Clem Phlegm (keyboards) and Zgaygoire (drums). They're named after the German immigrant and anarchist, Louis Lingg who committed suicide whilst on death row in 1887 after he had been arrested in connection with Chicago's Haymarket Square bombing. Despite many of their songs dealing with serious subjects, it doesn't stop them being fun.  You can check out their music on bandcamp : http://louislinggandthebombs.bandcamp.com/  .

This song, Destroy Civilisation, is from their 2012 album Alphabet Of A Revolution.......
