FEN FEN - SHELLSHOKT

Fen-phen, also known as fenfluramine/phentermine, was an anti-obesity medication that was popular in the early 1990s. It was a combination of two anorectics: fenfluramine and phentermine. However, it was eventually linked to serious health risks and was taken off the market.

And that's where Detroit punk band FEN FEN (https://www.facebook.com/fenfen00) derive their name from.

I stumbled across them a year ago (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2024/05/fen-fen-fm.html) following the release of their explosive debut album National Threat. As well as featuring them on the blog I played several songs on the show.

More recently on the show was Motorcycle, the opening track from the band's upcoming album In Yer Sights. It's an album that promises to be as equally fast and frenzied as the debut. It'll be released on August 22nd on various coloured vinyl https://fenfen.bandcamp.com/album/in-yer-sights

This is the latest teaser track to be dropped, it's called SHELLSHOKT...

Shell shocked
You look shell shocked
In this place
Cannot stand the taste
Shell shocked
Fraid you’re shell shocked
Getting sick
Preparing for the brick

Go

Shell shocked
Think you’re shell shocked
Understand
Bleeding for the man
Shell shocked
Come on shell shocked
Terrified
But is it justified

Go

Don’t mind
Dull mind
I don’t mind

Fen Fen - FM

Here's a band I've played on the show a couple of times recently, they're from Detroit, Michigan and they're called Fen Fen (https://www.facebook.com/fenfen00).

They feature a line up of Luke Bonczyk (vocals), Josh Korf (drums),  Ben Taber (bass) & Jake Hill (guitar) and according to their Bandcamp page their music is the result of what happens when pent-up musicians form a band in a dystopian, pandemic-riddled world and ask an ICU nurse to "scream into this microphone."

They've been around for a couple of years or so and have just released their debut full length album. It's titled National Threat and it effortlessly hits that punk rock sweet spot. There's no fucking about, no fat needs trimming. None of the 15 tracks head past the 2 minutes mark. Hold on to your hats, strap in and press play... https://fenfen.bandcamp.com/album/national-threat

So many old school, hardcore punk ragers to choose from but I'm going with this. It's called FM...
