BIG MESS - Terry

Big Mess (https://www.facebook.com/bigmessdk) are from Copenhagen and yes, you guessed it they've featured on here previously (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/11/big-mess-venus-in-bovver-boots.htmlhttps://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/10/big-mess-walk-all-over-me.html) with a cover of a Nips song and also a track that had me describing them as big, brash and bouncy.

Today sees them return in equally ebullient form with a teaser for their new 7". Available via Specialist Subject Records and Bandcamp in several different packages you'll find more details here :     https://specialistsubjectrecords.co.uk/products/big-mess-terry-ep-7 and here :   https://bigmessdk.bandcamp.com/album/terry-ep

They've also a few UK gigs lined up this week :

3RD APRIL - The Lughole, Sheffield with Coughin Vicars, The Dogs & Desired Effect
4TH APRIL - The Waiting Room, London with Trash Culture & Leigh Arthur
5TH APRIL - The Royal Oak, Bath with Gimic & Hektics
6TH APRIL - Exchange, Bristol (matinee) with Gimic & Bruno and the Outrageous Methods of   Presentation

You know how some songs have a highly infectious chorus? Well the title track is pretty much like that all the way through. It's a high energy cover of this 1983 Kirsty MacColl single (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pivL4QdtiuM) which was also covered by Tracy Ullman (https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=uhz9sGJLqcA) and it's called Terry...

BIG MESS - Walk All Over Me

(Photo: Elin TÃ¥rnes)

BIG MESS are Mike (Vocals), Moose (Bass/backing vocals), Rich (Drums/backing vocals) & Tony (Guitar/backing vocals). They're from Copenhagen and they featured on here last year with a Nipple Erectors cover https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/11/big-mess-venus-in-bovver-boots.html

They return today with an infectious track from their upcoming album Cleaning Up With. It'll be available on vinyl and digital download on November 17th and you can pre order it here :  https://bigmessdk.bandcamp.com/album/cleaning-up-with

The pre release teasing is very much underway, 3 songs are streaming. Big, brash and bouncy, they do a great job of whetting appetites for what's going to be a top album. I'll post the one they've just released a video for, this is Walk All Over Me...

Big Mess - Venus in Bovver Boots

Free as a bird... Never even says a fucking word

Ever heard of a guy named Shane MacGowan? Of course you have. He was in a band called Pogue Mahone. They changed their name to The Pogues after concerns were raised about Kiss My Arse not being a suitable name for a band who were breaking into the big time. It wasn't the first time he'd been in a band that had changed their name, he was previously vocalist with The Nipple Erectors (who shortened their name to The Nips). Their songs included a handful of very fine singles; King Of The Bop, All The Time In The World  Gabrielle & Happy Song. Other notable tracks included So Pissed Off and this one (a cover version of which I'm featuring today)                    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYkJCPVw-ao

Big Mess (https://www.facebook.com/bigmessdk) are from Copenhagen. They've been around for about 8 years and claim to be Copenhagen kings of Bestial Pop (whatever that is). They recently released a double A side maxi single titled Chartbusters which is available on cassette and digital download.

All 4 tracks are very fine, all are under 2 minutes and included are opening track Working (somewhat of "a stomper"), "hot new anthem" Bedroom Mosh (here's the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRJ4GAy4L48) and a re recording of one of their most popular tunes, Make Up Your Mind). You can get it here : https://bigmessdk.bandcamp.com/album/chartbusters

The other chartbuster on the ep is the cover I mentioned earlier. It's called Venus In Bovver Boots...
