Rifle - United State

Here's a blog update I did in 2022 for a song by a new band called Rifle who I didn't know anything about but I wrote  "I hope London punk quintet The Rifle might be another band that I'm still featuring in a few years from now. The evidence presented by their first release certainly suggests that could well be the case."

Happily, 4  years down the line and I am indeed still featuring them.

They've just released a debut, Self Titled album and it's pretty much everything you could want from a punk lp. It's fast, it's furious and it's catchy as hell. It's punk's 50th anniversary this year and this album would have been greeted as a classic if it had been released back in the late 70's. To my grizzled old ears it also stands up as a classic today.

You can get it on vinyl from YEAR0001 :

Highlights are aplenty, here's one, it's called United State...

Rifle - Pack Mentality

Rifle are a rowdy punk 5 piece from London who made a Just Some Punk Songs debut back in February 2022 with a track from their Holloway Demos ep              https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/02/rifle-flag.html

They followed that introduction up with a very fine cover of The Kids' classic Fascist Cops and then the Under Two Flags ep.

And now they're (they being Writer/Vocals: Max Williams Writer/Bass: Ross Whelan Writer/Guitar: Louis Bramwells Writer/Guitar: Albert Dury Writer/Drums: Flynn Whelan) back with another top notch ep.

It's released by YEAR0001 (https://index.year0001.com/article/pack-mentality) and it's described thus; "Dragging gut-punch UK proto-punk through the byways of US Hardcore at its most severe, Rifle is the sound of revenge yelled by the damned sons of London’s borderlands. A motley crew of loud-mouthed individuals, these boys are battered, kicked in, cut loose, and furious."

This is the title track, it's called Pack Mentality...

Rifle - The Flag

Whilst preparing to write about today's song (and wondering how I could fill a couple of paragraphs as I know pretty much nothing about the band I'm featuring today) I received a message from Kirill  Kutchokokov from Dboy thanking me for featuring them and commenting that "You're the first one that gave us the time of day years ago, so we are in your debt."

Whilst it's always nice to feel appreciated, no one's in my debt, this is just my hobby and without all the great band's out there it wouldn't be much fun. And I'm not blowing mine or anyone else's trumpet by posting the above comment, I'm A) padding out what would otherwise be a very short write up and B) giving myself the opportunity to say that I hope London punk quintet The Rifle might be another band that I'm still featuring in a few years from now. The evidence presented by their first release certainly suggests that could well be the case.

They line up with Max (Vocals), Cam (Guitar), Josh (Guitar), Flynn (Drums) & Ross (Bass). I've no idea if they're fresh faced newcomers or genre veterans but they've just released the Holloway Demos ep. It's 4 tracks of gritty punk rock that mixes elements of vintage punk, oi and a dash of hardcore (think Cockney Rejects, The Partisans and The Chisel). It could easily be filed under the UK82 tag on Bandcamp. It's raw and whilst it isn't reinventing the wheel, it shows great promise. If the job of a demo release is to create interest then it more than does it's job. You can snap it up as a name your price download here :  https://rifleldn.bandcamp.com/album/holloway-demos

This track is called The Flag...
