Real Sickies - Love Is For Lovers

Hey guys, just a heads up. If you like your punk to be catchy as fuck, then today's song could well end up as being the title track of your favourite album of 2021.

Real Sickies (https://www.facebook.com/therealsickies) are from Edmonton, Alberta and have featured on here 3 times previously with me spewing out comments such as "catchy choruses and melodies galore." I was a little surprised to discover it's been as long as 6 years since I started banging on about them, recommending them to fans of The Ramones, Teenage Head, Forgotten Rebels, Heartbreakers etc. A new record by them is always a joy.

And the new record will be an album titled Love Is For Lovers. It's out on July 9th on Stomp Records (https://stomprecords.com/) and will feature "a stellar collection of 14 timeless songs about love (duh), loss and heartache served up as only the Sickies can. From explosive rockers to heart-wrenching ballads, Love is for Lovers has the whole enchilada!" In a recent interview with Global Texan Chronical, vocalist Ben Disaster revealed a list of 5 albums/singles that influenced the album; Vapors – New Clear Days / Hayley Mary – Like a Woman Should / Bee Bee Sea – Day Ripper / Guns & Roses – Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 / Phil Seymour – Phil Seymour.

You may have heard the first single from the album (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C2kRpCKD7w), the new song is equally as good. Both are streaming now on Bandcamp so head on over and get those pre orders in : https://realsickies.bandcamp.com/album/love-is-for-lovers

This is Love Is For Lovers...

It doesn’t matter what I am
It doesn’t matter who they are
There is nothing to be said
 Except for lovers beware
 It’s mixed matched pieces
Not defined by words in a thesis

 Cause love is for lovers
 Don’t let them dictate

 There is not one law
 That can control one's heart
 No religion to say
 How it starts
 There’s no gender
 there’s no race
 There’s no denying
when it looks you in the face

 Love is for lovers

Real Sickies - It Came From Above

Yesterday was a great day if you're a fan of super catchy pop punk music as there were 2 highly anticipated albums that both dropped. One of them, Gigantic Sike, was covered by Josh on his excellent Faster And Louder blog  (http://fasterandlouderblog.blogspot.com/2019/08/mean-jeans-gigantic-sike.html) so today I'll post a song from the other one.

No strangers to Just Some Punk Songs (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2015/03/real-sickies-go-away.html / https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2018/06/real-sickies-get-well-soon.html), Real Sickies are from Edmonton, Alberta and play old school pop punk in the vein of Teenage Head, Teenage Bottlerocket and The Ramones. Their new album is titled Out Of Space and it features "13 rocket-propelled, turbo boosted, NASA disavowed tracks of incurable, infectious bliss." It's a half hour blast of feel good music that'll surely find the approval of anyone who likes their punk rock to contain catchy choruses and melodies galore. It's available on various different coloured ltd edition vinyl (pink pathogen, bluebonic plague, black death) and on digital download. It's on Stomp Records and you can snap it up here :   https://realsickies.bandcamp.com/album/out-of-space

They've a few gigs lined up, including an album release show, and you can check details here :   https://www.facebook.com/therealsickies/

There's plenty of contenders for favourite song but after a couple of listens to the album, this possibly made the biggest impression. It Came From Above...

I came along way since yesterday
Pretty hard to change my ways
When it came from above
I realize why your heart went astray
And why it might feel better that way
When they come for your love
When they come from above

All I want is for a chance to say that I
Don’t wanna say goodbye
So please don’t leave me behind

I can’t change time or the path behind
But in our ways we’ve both been blind
When they came from above
I’ll do whatever it takes
Spurts of love or masked graves
When it comes to your love
When it comes from above

Went the wrong way, said the wrong thing
Then I did it all over again
But I came along way, a very long way just to hear you say that

Those satellites of love the ones up high above
Can’t change our love

Real Sickies - Go Away

Right, where to start.....

One good thing with posting a song and not writing too much is that hopefully you don't get too bored having to read anything other that a brief band introduction. Another good thing is that when I stumble across a great song I can share it with you in pretty much no time at all.

Thanks to Ben Disaster who not to long ago added a new song to the New Punk Rock Music group with the comment "For fans of The Ramones, Teenage Head, Forgotten Rebels, Heartbreakers etc. From The debut cassette Edmonton Alta presents REAL SICKIES...."

So interest piqued I had a listen and wasn't the first person to think wow!!!

Anyway, as there's pretty much no information to be found about them (anyone who does know anything please feel free to add to the comments section) let's cut the waffle and let their music speak for itself. This is Go Away, something I hope this great new band aren't planning on doing anytime soon.......
