RISKEE & THE RIDICULE - God Tier

RISKEE & THE RIDICULE (https://www.facebook.com/RiskeeandtheRidicule) are back. They've been playing "DIY South East Grime Punk since 2011" and as demonstrated by their new album Platinum Statue, they're very much at the top of their game.

They've featured on here several times previously, most recently with My Name  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/04/riskee-and-ridicule-my-name.html

That song blazed a trail and heightened expectations for the album (I commented at the time "I doubt punk will ever die whilst people still have something worthwhile to say and still have the passion to shout it out loud.") and those expectations have more than been met.

With a line up of Scott Picking (Lead Vocals/Lyrics), Jimbo Aglony (Guitars/Screams), Jordan Mann (Lead Guitars/Vocals) & Matt Verrell (Drums/Bass/Vocal Harmonies), the band have once again produced a collection of energetic songs that'll appeal to both punk fans and fans from outside the genre. It's got the melodies of radio friendly pop songs but it's got added crunch. Shouting compliments the singing, the music varies from light to heavy. It's my 2nd full listen and it's already seeped into my pores.

It's available on CD and marbled grey vinyl available from Ring Of Fire Records : https://ringoffirerecords.limitedrun.com/products/744716-riskee-the-ridicule-platinum-statue-pre-order

This is the opening track, I think it's safe to say the band still have plenty to get off their chest. It's a song that displays both their melody and rage to full effect. It's called God Tier...

I feel like I’m on another plane, another dimension, run when normality beckons. Everything just comes at once this is our sphere, there ain’t no bond here and that’s when you elevate into god tier.
I feel like I’m on another plane another dimension, I don’t believe what you reckon. Everything just comes at once this is our sphere, there ain’t no bond here and that’s when the elevate into god tier.

Break those chains, those chains ain’t yours to maintain, what’s the point in chasing fame, you're never gonna see this place again. I will break those brains, reset everything that they create, I’m a bloody bloodhound in this game, I can see lies and I can smell fakes, dead it.

I hold myself in such high esteem 'cause I plucked reality out of a dream, blew off the dirt and I kept what I like, I moulded the shape, tarted up the sides. Keep your blind rage, we craft the vision do what you do, we’ll do what you didn’t, when they talk about you and you don’t care that’s when you’re elevating to god tier!

I feel like I’m on another plane, another dimension, run when normality beckons. Everything just comes at once this is our sphere, there ain’t no bond here and that’s when you elevate into god tier.
I feel like I’m on another plane another dimension, I don’t believe what you reckon. Everything just comes at once this is our sphere, there ain’t no bond here and that’s when the elevate into god tier

I’m an iron fist in an iron glove, I'll body any front man you’ve ever loved, we are not slaves we are not idols we are the underground we hold the title. I came from the dirt as did many to show you we were planted and not buried, we grow we do not rot, in bloom all year round we don’t stop.

Inflation skyrockets the wages remain, where is your fire where are you flames? Where is the anger, where is your rage, I’m alright Jack yeah I’m alright Jane, dead it. You want rich but how do you want it? A Fiesta In the forest or Tesla to the office. If I’m honest time is the only commodity my seconds ain’t for sale it’s my hours that honour me.

Who are you who am I? Can we exhume truth from the lies. you play a role you are a character you are a vessel you are an avatar. You are the worker you are the passenger. You are the driver but the manager manage ya. There’s no fast track no, there’s no time trafficker there’s no shortcut sliding down the banister.

The canister is already split open and the contents is already pre-written. Open the box strike the flame, flick the match light the game, wear your Docs, wear your chain here’s the catch you’re the same. Take your pain and package it up. They’ll market you as deranged and stuck. What do you know you’re just a fool, they can’t smell a thing sitting in their own stool!

I feel like I’m on another plane another dimension, run when normality beckons. Everything just comes at once this is our sphere. there ain’t no bond here and that’s when you elevate into god tier.
I feel like I’m on another plane another dimension, I don’t believe what you reckon. Everything just comes at once this is our sphere, there ain’t no bond here and that’s when the elevate into god tier.

Riskee and the Ridicule - My Name

This morning, I noticed one of my friends on Facebook asking the question "Do you think punk died before 1983?"

The obvious answer is of course it didn't.

A Just Some Punk Songs return today for South East grime punks Riskee and the Ridicule  (https://www.facebook.com/RiskeeandtheRidicule), a band (Scott Picking (Lyrics/Lead Vocals), Jimbo Aglony (Guitars/Screams), Jordan Mann (Lead Guitar) & Matt Verrell (Bass/Drums)) that are influenced by those days before 1983 but who are fresh faced enough not to have experienced them first hand. That said, they can still produce the same levels of energy and excitement of that era for a newer generation of fans.

They've a new album on the way. It'll be out on August 25th and titled Platinum Statue.

I doubt punk will ever die whilst people still have something worthwhile to say and still have the passion to shout it out loud. This is the band's new single, it's called My Name...

You know my name but I don’t know yours. We’re not the same and that’s my get out clause.
You know my name but I don’t know yours. We’re not the same, not the same, not the same, not the same.

You lot got real fucking brave, keyboard at your fingertips now you got shit to say? Don’t feed the trolls they’re under the bridge for a reason, the beautiful people walk the bridge and go on to somewhere decent.

Face to face you’ve got shit to say it’s beef and I’m eating. I’m taking off heads like I’m the king and this is treason. The capitalist machine the music industry is in parts, first the mainstream will eat anything they put into the charts. Second it’s not about talent it’s about who’s down to sell their hearts and third is watch the underground and go steal all of its art. Fucking Rembrandts and the Nazis imposters hiding in the dark and any musicians who want it can get it I’ll come and tear you all apart.

You you you you better watch your mouth, I’ll come to your show and I will bang you out. I’m the fucking landlord, this is my house I am not normal I am something else.

Da da da da da da da da da da, da da da da da da da da

I’m gargantuan, I’m in your mouth like calcium, one speed it maximum, the big cat's here so mousy run. Bring me a better rapper than me and I’ll sing, bring me a better singer than me and I’ll rap. If you find someone’s who’s better at both I’ll write them a better hook for their track. Blap!

If you always do what you did you’ll always get what you got, you got to evolve to roll big kid, you can’t simmer for too long stay hot. The power's always with the people, the future the present the past, not a single lightbulb illuminates without the say of the working class.

You know my name, but I don’t know yours. We’re not the same and that’s my get out clause.
You know my name but I don’t know yours. We’re not the same, not the same, not the same, not the same.

You you you you better watch your mouth, I’ll come to your show and I will bang you out. I’m the fucking landlord this is my house I am not normal I am something else.
You you you you better watch your mouth, I’ll come to your show and I will bang you out. I’m the fucking landlord this is my house I am not normal I am something else.

If you ain’t running away how can they catch you? You shine through the black you platinum statue.

Riskee & The Ridicule - Blue Jacket

It was only 6 months ago that no one had heard of Corvid 19. We didn't know what the Corona Virus was and we certainly didn't think our economy was going to be trashed by a flu like, invisible killer. Instead we were setting sail on the good ship UK heading away from Europe towards an exciting new tomorrow. Or we were if you ever thought Brexit was anything other than false promises and the chance for certain well to dos to keep their fortunes safely squirrelled away in shady tax havens. Watch out for that iceberg Captain Boris!

Last year also saw the release of Body Bag Your Scene, an impressive genre straddling album from Kent band Riskee & The Ridicule (https://www.facebook.com/RiskeeandtheRidicule/). I described it as being "full of big catchy singalong choruses which despite the anger in many of the lyrics is very definitely upbeat" (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/07/riskee-ridicule-millwall-brick-glasgow.html). Almost a year on and they're back with more of the same; catchy hooks, political barbs, an iron hand in a velvet fist.

Their new single touches on both Brexit and pandemic. The lunatics have staggered out of the asylum clutching their shiny new passports into a landscape laid waste by the effects of the pandemic. Will they seek to band together with their neighbours to restore society or will they carry on regardless with Churchillian spirit and a smug sense of superiority?

As the Down And Outs put it so well, you can have your country back cos it doesn’t mean a fucking thing to me.

  This is Blue Jacket...

Britain’s sold me a brand new Blue Jacket The sleeves are too long and the arms wrap round my back I never noticed the buckles on my brand new blue jacket I don’t know from who but I’ve got my country back An Irishman, a Scotsman and a Welshman join me in a bar We show each other memes on a screen, humour is an art My blood is half-Scottish, half-Irish, got an English beating heart My family ain’t from round here but trace us back we probably are Oh you’re a pure breed? No, you’re an inbred You’re a joke, you ain’t woke. You’ve always been dead So, come on zombie, put it on me. I’m all blotchy and now my skin's red So, I’m gonna go infect everyone, affect everything it’s an outbreak No lime in my Corona? E.U bureaucrats you’re an outrage! "Honey, I’m home! What’s for tea darling?" I feel like chlorinated chicken tonight just ain’t got the same ring Britain’s sold me a brand new Blue Jacket The sleeves are too long and the arms wrap round my back I never noticed the buckles on my brand new blue jacket I don’t know from who but I’ve got my country back You blue passport prick, have you got your country back? And your arsehole kids are gonna spout the same shit as their dad Yeah, you got past those fibs that were fed to you like broth. You took your share out of the pot now you’ll eat water from the trough. Starve piggy, oh you look so malnourished I’ve never wanted to say I told you so any less I’ll drop you like the pound and depart with a parting kiss If they ruin us we riot all day I raise your fist Britain’s sold me a brand new Blue Jacket The sleeves are too long and the arms wrap round my back I never noticed the buckles on my brand new blue jacket I don’t know from who but I’ve got my country back

RISKEE & THE RIDICULE - Millwall Brick, Glasgow Kiss

Forming in 2011, RISKEE & THE RIDICULE are a grime punk outfit from Ashford, Kent who's line up features Scott Picking (lead vocals/lyrics), Jimbo Aglony (guitars/vocals), Matt Verrell (drums/vocals/keyboards) and Jordan Mann (lead guitar/backing vocals). Fresh sounding and energetic they're a politically astute protest band with catchy tunes and intelligent lyrics. One of the comments in the chatroom when I played them on this week's show was "They're a bit like Sleaford Mods but not as bad" I'm assuming that was praise! To my grizzled old ears there's also hints of bands like Slaves, King Blues and even Carter USM. It's punk rock music for the current generation, it's very good. https://www.facebook.com/RiskeeandtheRidicule/

Last month saw the release of new album Body Bag Your Scene. It's full of big catchy singalong choruses and despite the anger in many of the lyrics the music is very definitely upbeat. I've not had the pleasure of catching them live but I'm sure there'll be plenty of sweating and bouncing around going on. In the confines of your home it'll be more a case of "right, lets check out that lyric sheet." They're a band that make you shake your head in despair at the nostalgia punks who refuse to acknowledge the existence of any decent music released since they were at school back in the late 70's/early 80's. The album's on turquoise vinyl via Bomber Music   http://store.bombermusic.com/products/643576-riskee-the-ridicule-body-bag-your-scene and it's streaming here : https://riskeeandtheridicule.bandcamp.com/album/body-bag-your-scene-2019-2

I could have pretty much chosen any of the songs to highlight but I'll go with Millwall Brick, Glasgow Kiss...

Chorus
Like when a Millwall Brick meets a Glasgow Kiss.
Like when a Glasgow Kiss, meets a Millwall Brick
Like when a Millwall Brick meets a Glasgow Kiss.
Like when a Glasgow Kiss, meets a Millwall Brick

Verse 1
They slander you and you keep coming back
You pander to their perpetual attack
You slam the views that you’ve got and they lack
I guess the eyes in the back of your head have got your back
You already know
Like what you gonna give to a weapon that has already blown?
Another bullet? Bro, get to stepping, feeling’s already gone
You wanna do it? Give it a second. The seeds already down. Let them come now
They’re gonna fall down! Like step in to the pit at your own risk
You already know, you fall down you get picked up, you get pulled down you’re not alone
There’s a safe space round here, it’s called the back and sides. Collide like trains or not, decide

Chorus

Verse 2
Step off the tube at Camden - there’s a sea of CDs, in the palms of the hands of 20 road men M.C’s
I don’t want to buy your mixtape, I’m walking...Jeez!.
Which one of youse dropped the best album of 2019?
‘It wasne me’. Well it was fucking one a yis! Disgusting!
Thanks for confronting us, but on a serious note
The longer the note, the more dread
You’re making me walk faster than I normally tread
I can’t knock them hustling, I can’t knock the hustle
You might think them man crazy, but them man ain’t nuts at all
They’ll eat you alive, Hannibal cannibal…”keep the change ya filthy animal!”
This ain’t made for the faint-hearted, this ain’t made for the snakes, mate
You can’t wipe the slate clean if the slate’s caked in hate, mate
I’m a Silverback on steroids, twice the size of Grape Ape and I’ll beat on my chest until the earth shake
