A reappearance on the blog today by a band who featured in my end of 2014 top 30 list and who had their own update in which I wrote "keep an eye on them, they're hopefully gonna be one of the most important bands of the next few years" (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2015/01/downtown-boys-kids-are-united.html).
Not that I'm claiming any great foresight with that prediction, their was a buzz and an air of excitement already building about Downtown Boys, the only question was, could they build on that early promise and live up to the hype and expectations. If debut album Full Communism is anything to go by, the answer appears to be a resounding yes! (http://downtownboys.bandcamp.com/).
Featuring the intelligent lyrics and passionate delivery of vocalist Victoria Ruiz as well as Joey L DeFrancesco (guitar/vocals), Dan Schleifer (bass), Emmett Fitzgerald (tenor sax), Adrienne Berry (alto sax) and Norlan Olivo (drums) the Providence, Rhode Island sextet stand out as one of punk's brightest new lights.
From the new album, this is a song which highlights how racial inequality and the exploitation of society's most poverty stricken has been a blight on American culture. It's called Wave Of History.....
