Slobheads - One Law

    

  If you saw the Just Some Punk Songs end of year chart you'll have noticed that one of the songs featured was by south west London duo Slobheads (https://www.facebook.com/slobheads). That song, Rothman Blues, is the opening track of a debut album by the band titled The Big Stink. Happily, it's not the only highlight.

  It featured on here last year (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2021/04/slobheads-rothman-blues.html) as did follow up single, Ain't Nothing New (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2021/05/slobheads-aint-nothing-new.html). Now that the full album has landed I'm happy to confirm that the guys, Harry Jarvis (guitar/vocals) & Macey Sherman (drums) have followed through on the promise displayed in their early releases and given us a full lp's worth of top notch trashy punk.   I could have pretty much selected any of the tracks to highlight as it's a consistently good album so I'll post one today and then play a different one on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show. This is One Law... 

Slobheads - Ain't Nothing New

  

  One of the most popular songs on last night's Just Some Punk Songs show was the new single by South West London trash punk duo Slobheads (https://www.facebook.com/slobheads). It's only a couple of months since they were last on here (with the "bluesy stomper" Rothman Blues  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2021/04/slobheads-rothman-blues.html). 

  Now they return, full of youthful vim and vigor with a track that reminds me of top bands such as Wonk Unit, Slaves or maybe Aerial Salad. It's fresh and shouty punk for a generation that weren't even born when many of us old gits were falling in love with the genre but it's a sound that still manages to excite even the most jaded amongst us.   Slobheads (https://www.facebook.com/slobheads) are a young trash punk duo from South West London featuring Harry Jarvis (guitar/vocals) and Macey Sherman (drums). They surfaced in 2017 with the Sod's Law ep and followed it up a year later with another called Neighbourhood Nasties. 2 guys with attitude that sing about getting drunk and political ideology that fall somewhere between Slaves and Cool Jerks. 

   And they've recently returned with a very fine new single about another of their vices, smoking. "It's about all the cravings, the poncing and begging for a snout when you run out but the possessiveness of having your own pack of cigarettes and not wanting to share with overs. knowing and feeling the effects of smoking but not having a caring in the world about the implications. its dirty and horrible but do we care enough to quit? Course not!" It's an unmistakably British bluesy stomp with gang vocals from Ross Brunton helping to give it a big, beefy singalong feel.
