Disorder - Dangerous Machine (Guest Review By Ralph J Rivera)

Greetings again from "King Ralph" & the wonderful Jersey Shore! Since my last review here I ran into a bit of a slump as far as new music goes. Sure there were tons of releases coming out but nothing "worth writing about" if you know what I mean.

But I did get an unexpected surprise around the first week of August. A brand new 4 song EP by one of my top 5 British Punk bands - DISORDER! (https://www.facebook.com/disorderpunkshop.co.uk). In 1981 these crazy bastards from Bristol, England changed not only the way I "heard" music but also the very way I would look & dress!  I've been following this band all through their career & many line-up changes but their music ALWAYS stayed the same, on the edge of chaos.

Which brings us up to 2024 and the release of "Nuclear Deterrent". https://chickenattackrecords.bandcamp.com/album/nuclear-deterrent.

4 brand new songs with Taf still on bass & vocals, with Alex on guitar & Jake on drums. This is one of the best versions of "Disorder" I've heard in a long time. Opening with the vitriolic stomper "Dangerous Machine", the cider starts flowing! Next is "Choco Molokko" bringing back the "Rampton Song" style madness. "Rotten" is a mid-pace headbanger that would be right at home on "Perdition". Ending with the title track, Disorder once again prove they just may be one of the best remaining UK82 bands. I give "Taf" insane amounts of credit for keeping this band going for over 40 years! If for some reason you've never heard Disorder this 4 song EP would be a great introduction. How many bands from the 80's can you say that about?

Still bringing the noise, the chaos & the insanity. Disorder will always be as this song says....

  Dangerous Machine...

Disorder - Air Raid

There was more than one punk band named Disorder back in the early 80's but today's song is by the band from Sunderland, in the north east of England.

Comprising of Mark Rough (vocals), Steven Halsted (guitar), Malcolm Comb (drums) and David O'Leary (bass), they formed in Town End Farm in 1978 (initially they were called Cranium Disorder). Whilst they didn't go on to achieve the fame of another local band, The Toy Dolls, they did release a couple of decent singles. The first of those came out on Ace Records in 1980, featuring the songs Air Raid/Law And Disorder, only 750 copies were produced. The follow up, Reality Crisis/1984 followed on Durham Book Centre Records later the same year.

An incident at a Sunderland gig in which David O'Leary crapped in the sink of Revillos' singer Fay Fife led to them being barred from all North East Polytechnics!

Steve Halsted left the band in September 1980 and they split up not long after, musical differences cited as the reason. There was an 8 track compilation released on Thought Crime Records in 2014 (which I've just noticed was mastered at North London Bomb Factory by Red Dons' Daniel Husayn). You can download today's song free here :  https://thoughtcrimerecords.bandcamp.com/album/disorder-fires-light-the-sky-lp

This is a superb song that deserves your attention, it's called Air Raid.......

Bombers blasting Britain, death fills the air
bodies are scattered, there is a big scare
white beams of light, stem from ground
sirens wail, buildings fall down

Air raid, get down in the shelter
air raid, turn out the lights
air raid, grab your children
air raid, cos they're quivering with fright

The ground opens up, as bombers start to rape
destruction everywhere, there is no escape
violence can be seen, fires light the sky
bodies lie under debris, innocents die

Air raid, get down in the shelter
air raid, turn out the lights
air raid, grab your children
air raid, cos they're quivering with fright
