Covert Flops - Spy School Dropout

Ok, I admit it. I've kinda fallen out of love with pop punk a little. Is it pop punks fault or is it me? It's probably me as there still seems to be plenty of well received releases coming out but my tastes seemed to have veered in the direction of a more rough and ready sound. There are still some pop punk releases that I'm enjoying though, a couple of days ago I was recommending the Prozacs retrospective and today I'm bring you a song by Covert Flops (https://www.facebook.com/COVERTFLOPS).

The Indiana 3 piece (Chad (guitar vox), Adam (drums), Billy (Bass vox)) are no strangers to Just Some Punk Songs as I've thought them one of the genres best new bands since I featured Spy Code 492 in March 2019. I wrote "They're one of the kind of pop punk bands I like, ie they sing about fun stuff with horror & sci fi themes. If you like The Lillingtons, Ramones, Queers etc then you'll like these guys." Fast forward to November 2021 and the release of new album Mission: Implausible and nothing much has changed.

They're still singing about spies and they're still influenced by The Ramones and The Lillingtons' The Backchannel Broadcast album. They're still lots of fun. The album's available via Mon's Basement Records : https://momsbasementrecords.bandcamp.com/album/covert-flops-mission-implausible

This track is called Spy School Dropout...

Covert Flops - Agent For H.A.R.M.

A quickie today, a fun cover of a Riverdales song that was originally on that band's excellent 2009 album Invasion USA.

It's by Covert Flops (https://www.facebook.com/COVERTFLOPS), the 3 piece from Pendleton, Indiana, who feature Chad (guitar/vocals), Adam (drums) & Billy (bass/vocals). They sing about horror, sci-fi, spies etc and they're one of the best pop punk/power pop acts around. They've featured on here previously with the songs (I Was A) Dick For Tracy and Spy Code 492.

If you're a fan of them, you'll no doubt be eagerly awaiting their upcoming new album Mission Implausible which will be out soon on Mom's Basement Records (https://momsbasementrecords.bigcartel.com/).

To keep us going whilst we wait, they've posted the Riverdales cover on Bandcamp as a free download https://covertflops.bandcamp.com/track/agent-for-h-a-r-m

  This is Agent For H.A.R.M....

Covert Flops - (I Was A) Dick For Tracy

The Covert Flops single that I featured on here back in March (https://covertflops.bandcamp.com/album/defcon-1-2-3-4) went down very well and I've heard nothing but gushing praise for their new album so it's a no brainer that I'm going to post something from it.

A quick recap, they're a 3 piece pop punk band from Pendleton, Indiana who should appeal to fans of The Lillingtons, Ramones, Queers etc. The album is titled Defcon 1-2-3-4 and it's a blast. You can probably tell if you'll like it just by checking out the cool cover artwork (from Cretin Face Design). There's 11 catchy songs on subjects such as the Illuminati, Riff Randell, Tromaville, Michael Myers, Pamela Anderson... This is a punk band that don't want to change the world, smash the system or overthrow the government. They just want to have fun so why not put down those protest banners, crack open a beer and join the party. You can get the cd from Outloud! Records   https://outloudrecords.bandcamp.com/album/defcon-1-2-3-4  or the digital download here :   https://covertflops.bandcamp.com/album/defcon-1-2-3-4

This is one of the highlights, (I Was A) Dick For Tracy...

Covert Flops - Spy Code 492

We've been blessed so far this year with some great pop punk releases. It's only March and already I've had killer music on here by Damones, Black Russians, Conmen, The Anti-Bodies, Black Russians, Evil O'Brians and The Hawaiians. There's also upcoming releases from the likes of Teenage Bottlerocket, Dan Vapid And The Cheats and The Prozacs to look forward to. Another great song that impressed me came out as the 5th installment of Something To Do Records' monthly singles series. It's just been augmented with a video so I'm featuring it today. If you want to download it go here :  https://somethingtodorecords.bandcamp.com/album/something-to-do-music-for-something-to-do-people-vol-5

Whilst there, check out the other releases in the series as there's some impressive contributions.

Covert Flops are from Pendleton, Indiana and feature Chad (guitar/vocals), Adam (drums) and Billy (bass). They're one of the kind of pop punk bands I like, ie they sing about fun stuff with horror & sci fi themes. If you like The Lillingtons, Ramones, Queers etc then you'll like these guys. There's an album in the works which I'm excited about. You can find more info here :   https://www.facebook.com/COVERTFLOPS/

The video is taken from an old Twilight Zone episode, the song is about undercover shenanigans involving Russia infiltrating the CIA and it's a treat. It's called Spy Code 492...
