Corner Boys - I'm Not Sorry

Vancouver trio Corner Boys featured on here earlier this year with a track from their excellent debut album Waiting For 2020 (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2019/04/corner-boys-waiting-for-2020.html). They're back today with a song that was recorded during the sessions for the album but for whatever reason didn't make the final cut. As a thank you to fans, the band have released a collection of unreleased "B-Sides" which as well as the aforementioned song also includes a couple more recorded in 2017 as part of the sessions for their Just Don't Care 7" and their excellent cover of the Martha And The Muffins' classic Echo Beach (I'll play that on next Sunday's Just Some Punk Songs show).

The ep is titled B-Sides and you can snap it up name your price here :   https://cornerboys.bandcamp.com/album/b-sides

If you want more band info, including details of a gig later this week with DOA and Chain Whip then go here : https://www.facebook.com/CornerBoysBC/  Then on September 28th they'll be playing with BA Johnston at Pat's Pub. This will be their last ever gig before they sadly split up.

So, tracks 1 & 2, nice rough and ready power pop-punk tunes Deadbeat Heart and Speed Dial Love, track 3, an impressive bouncy version of Echo Beach and track 4, a very catchy singalong (is that a Buzzcocks guitar riff I hear hidden in there?) who's omission from the album just demonstrates how bloody strong that lp was.  This is I'm Not Sorry....

Corner Boys - Waiting For 2020

No strangers to this blog, The Corner Boys are the epitome of a modern day snotty, classic punk throwback. The Vancouver trio have previously wowed us with a Demo and a couple of killer singles ( https://cornerboys.bandcamp.com/) and now they make good on that early promise with a debut ep that'll transport you back in time to the late 70's. Released on one of the best labels out there, Drunken Sailor Records, the album's titled Waiting For 2020 and you can pre order the vinyl (100 mustard/200 black) here : http://www.drunkensailorrecords.co.uk/products/640377-corner-boys-waiting-for-2020-lp-drunken-sailor-records-drunkensailor-107

Fans of digital downloads go here : https://drunkensailorrecords.bandcamp.com/album/waiting-for-2020-lp

The advertising blurb describes the album as being a pogo-worthy punk classic and compares the band with the likes of Rudi, Protex, The Undertones and Pointed Sticks. High praise but justified. Whereas The Undertones sang about Norman hiding in the dark, chasing girls and poking out eyes, the Corner Boys kick things off with a song called Norman (...please don't go out and kill tonight). Other highlights include the frantic title track (see below) the equally frenetic Spit At You, As Seen On TV (I'll be playing this on tonight's Just Some Punk Songs show   https://www.facebook.com/events/284058985865750/) and previous single Joke (Of The Neighbourhood). To be honest though, they're all highlights.

Sirens ring out, drums pound, guitars chime and we're Waiting For 2020....

Corner Boys - Joke (Of The Neighbourhood)

Corner Boys are from Vancouver, British Columbia and their recent demo brings to mind another great new power pop band, TV Crime (https://tvcrime.bandcamp.com/track/hooligans). Both bands turned up out of the blue with debut releases that featured songs that impressed me no end. Hopefully both bands will go on and fulfill their undoubted potential.

Corner Boys feature Wade (guitar/vocals), Joel (bass/vocals) and Patrick (vocals/drums), their demo was recorded by Jeff McCloy and features 3 tracks. You can find it here name your price : https://cornerboys.bandcamp.com/album/demo

As good as Someone's Chasing Me and Remote Control Freak are, it's track 3 which is the "hit." This is Joke (Of The Neighbourhood).....
