Before They Are Hanged - This Ones Gonna Hurt

Based in Sheffield and North Derbyshire, Before They Are Hanged (https://www.facebook.com/beforetheyarehanged) have been putting out top notch punk rock music since Feb 2018. They like 80s films, horror, fantasy and SF (& real science!), RPGs and other nerdy shit, they dislike homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, xenophobia & racism. They sometimes write songs about those likes and dislikes.

Maybe some of those likes and dislikes will again be addressed on their upcoming debut album. It won't be out till the 2nd part of 2022 but to give us a taste of what to expect they've just released a teaser song. It's a short blast of energetic punk rock that suggests they've toughened up their already gritty sound. It's about doing the right thing, even if it's also the hard thing. It's a bit of a rager. You can get it here : https://beforetheyarehanged.bandcamp.com/track/this-ones-gonna-hurt-album-taster-track

It's called This Ones Gonna Hurt...

 Brace yourself again
 Dig deep my friends
 This one's gonna hurt

 Fight back, fight
 Pull through the shame
 This one's gonna hurt

 When you see it coming
 You better look away
 When you see it coming

Before They Are Hanged - These Times Alone

Derbyshire punks Before They Are Hanged (https://www.facebook.com/beforetheyarehanged/) are no strangers to Just Some Punk Songs. I think I've featured most of the songs that make up their new ep as they've been drip fed to us over the last couple of years or so.

Titled These Times alone, the ep comes in two cd versions. There's the Blue version which is limited to 50 copies and features the tracks These Times Alone, Story Of My Life, Ground Down, Nowhere Without You (previously unreleased) and D.I.Y. You can get it here :  https://beforetheyarehanged.bandcamp.com/album/these-times-alone-ep

Secondly is the Orange version which features the same tracks plus another previously unreleased one called Where's Roy and it comes with free badges. You can get it from hangedmusic18 :  https://hangedmusic18.bandcamp.com/album/these-times-alone

It's released on 1st May (Blue) and 8th May (Orange) but they're selling quick on pre order so if you want one, don't hang around.

I've mentioned previously that they were planning a full length album titled Welcome To England but I suppose with the pandemic scuppering many a plan the ep is a very nice little stopgap to keep us going. It's melodic punk at it's best and will have you singing along. I've asked about the album and am happy to report that now restrictions are easing they hope to start work on it next month. It looks like it'll contain between 15-20 tracks so plenty to look forward to.

A song on the subject of mental health issues, this is These Times Alone...

Before They Are Hanged - Story Of My Life

It doesn't seem like much time has passed since Before They Are Hanged (https://www.facebook.com/beforetheyarehanged/) last featured on here and a quick check shows it was just 32 days since I posted a song from their upcoming album, Welcome To England (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/03/before-they-are-hanged-ground-down.html). I mentioned at the time that the release date would inevitably be delayed due to the situation with the Corona virus and the lockdown but despite all this living in isolation malarkey they've still managed to put together a video for another of their new songs. It was recorded in their various homes (their bass player was in France at the time so I guess part of it counts as a location shoot).

"It's just an ordinary day, one like any other. They all run into one, these days..." Although it's about a failed relationship and the gap left in someone's life in the aftermath, the opening lines of the song could equally be applied to these current dark times. It's a catchy melodic punk track of the type the band do so well and it suggests the album will be worth waiting for (Autumn is the new proposed release date).

This is Story Of My Life...

Before They Are Hanged - Ground Down

Forming in Feb 2018, Before They Are Hanged (https://www.facebook.com/beforetheyarehanged/) are based around the Peak District, North Derbyshire & Sheffield and feature a line up of Simon Madden (lead vocals), Dan Abrahams (guitar/backing vocals), Trevor Vickey (bass/backing vocals) and Ben Duncan (Drums/backing vocals). They took their name from a novel by Joe Abercrombie (I've read it, it's very good) and their influences include the likes of Bad Religion, Rancid, Descendents, Nirvana etc.

They've been busy working on their debut album which will be ironically titled Welcome To England. They've 5 songs done but now we're all in lockdown the pencilled in release date will be pushed back from the summer to autumn at the earliest. Fear not though, we can get an idea what to expect both from their earlier songs on Bandcamp (https://beforetheyarehanged.bandcamp.com/) and in the form of the brand new track you'll find below. Once this current crisis is over they'll be looking for gigs so give them a shout if you can help.

A powerful wall of sound backs a call to stand for what you believe in, this is Ground Down...

Before They Are Hanged - DIY

Before They Are Hanged are a new band (formed Feb 2018) from Derbyshire who feature a line up of Simon (vocals), Dan (guitar), Joe (bass) and Ben (drums/percussion). They take their name from the title of a book by British fantasy writer Joe Abercrombie (fun fact : he went to the same school as me, Lancaster Royal Grammer School. If you fancy reading something by him I'd recommend his The First Law trilogy).

They'll be making their live debut in a couple of days (15th Sept) at Derby's Sitwell Tavern supporting Luddite Bastard so if you can get along and support a new band that'd be great. They've also recorded a couple of singles, Here Come The Cool Kids and the song you'll find below. You can track them down on Spotify or Bandcamp  https://beforetheyarehanged.bandcamp.com/ and for more info on the band and their live debut check out Facebook :  https://www.facebook.com/beforetheyarehanged/

The second of their videos recorded live at Sheffield's Toolmakers studio, this song is called D.I.Y. Nice and bouncy with great backing vocals, a promising start from a fledgling punk band...
