Whats Your Damage? - Democracy

Quinn Anderson (Vocals), Sean Kelly (Bass), Wiley Willis (Drums) & Bobby Shields (Guitars) make up Chicago quartet What's Your Damage? (https://www.facebook.com/whatsyourdamagechicago). They return to Just Some Punk Songs for the third time today. Unfortunately, as they're calling it their last album, I fear it maybe their swansong?

If that is the case then the album's aptly titled. It's called Concluded, features 8 tracks of their trademark punk/post-punk/new wave influenced sound and it's available now as a name your price download :  https://whatsyourdamage.bandcamp.com/album/concluded

I've previously mentioned how I'm a fan of Quinn's distinctive vocals and she's still impressing on this release. The songs deal with subjects such as the pressure to strive for the perfect 10 body, the occupation of Palestine, feeling trapped and alone in one's own mind etc. Weighty topics from a band that will be missed if indeed this is their final release.

This track is probably the highlight for me, it's another scathing political commentary and it's called Democracy...

What’s Your Damage? - Useless Generation

There's something about Quinn Anderson's vocals that draws me in. They're simultaneously distinctive, yet at the same time naggingly familiar. She's the focal point of Chicago new wave quartet What's Your Damage? and is ably backed by Wiley Willis (drums), Sean Kelly (bass) and Bob Shields (guitar). They featured on here back at the start of 2020 when Jason Long introduced us to a song from their Self Titled (very good and name your price so go snap it up) 8 track ep  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/01/whats-your-damage-killing-spree-guest.html

They return today with another 80's influenced winner, this time taken from the split album they released in September in collaboration with Houston, Texas duo The Prettybads. It's another name your price digital delight with What's Your Damage? dealing with modern day issues such as our buy buy buy society, police violence, uniting against discrimination, a call for workers to revolt etc...

The song I'm featuring from it also features on a very decent compilation album from Thumper Punk Records titled United We Skate Vol. 6. https://thumperpunkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/united-we-skate-vol-6

  This is Useless Generation...

What's Your Damage? - Killing Spree (Guest Review by Jason Long)

A guest review for you today courtesy of Jason Long. Jason recommends we all check out the new Self Titled ep by Chicago band What's Your Damage? After listening to several of the songs, it's a recommendation I'd heartily endorse.

  Over to you Jason...

Great news for punk fans, especially those who have a craving for that early post punk noise mixed with a bit of 80s new wave! What's Your Damage? is set to release an 8 track EP on Jan. 17th!

There's a few reasons this could be a choice album for you. First off, WYD? specializes in the sounds of yesteryear, but it comes out as a breath of fresh air. I don't want to refer to it as a throwback, because the band puts youthful energy in to it. Really, it's a nice alternative to the ear splitting genres of punk we all love so much, but not too far from home, as it's still upbeat catchy jams.

Secondly, I'm not the biggest fan of female vocals... that's just me, can't help it. I find a lot of female punk vocalists add accents and shrilling noises that my ears reject. That's not the case with Quinn. She has a clear delivery and gets right down to the point. Her vocals match well with the driving rhythms.

Also, this EP is one of those albums I refer to as "an anytime album". It doesn't require a certain mood or situation. It mixes well in playlists, or as a complete playthrough. Check out some tracks at https://whatsyourdamage.bandcamp.com/ and preorder your copy!

Killing Spree is infectious song and worthy of a few listens!
