Loose Lips are a rock n roll trio from Melbourne. They boast one hell of a line up; Josh Hardy (Guitar/ Vocals; the Chats and the Unknowns), Ethan Stahl (Bass/ Vocals; Chubby and the Gang, the Prize, Street Sweeper) and Nadine Muller (Drums/ Vocals; the Prize).
They announced themselves in fine style last year with a debut ep and they return today with a debut full album. The album's called Last Laugh and it's available on various vinyl variants and as a digital download : https://staylooselips2.bandcamp.com/album/last-laugh
It's a delight, just check out the title track for example, it's a crunchy power pop winner. I played it on a recent show and I've also featured Too Late To Call and Don't Mess Me 'Round. The album's full of should be hits though so I'll highlight a different track today.
Big riffs, bigger melodies, this is Out Of Time...
Foxy (https://www.facebook.com/foxybandusa) are a female fronted melodic punk band from Orange County who've just released a new album titled Tonight Tonight. The line up of the band is LP (Vocals), Greg Antista (Guitar), Stu West (Bass) & Richie Mendez (Drums).
The album will bring to mind the likes of The Runaways and The Donnas. It's catchy as fuck and it rocks. I played a track on the show a few weeks ago (Rock And Roll Crime) and it pretty much brought the house down. Happily it's not the album's only "smash hit."
The Soda Poppers (https://www.facebook.com/the.soda.poppers) are the latest band to come rolling off the Johny Skullknuckles punk n roll conveyor belt. I've featured a couple of those other bands previously
The Soda Poppers see Jonny on guitar, backing vocals and knob twiddling. He's taking a bit of a backseat this time around ably backing up Frida The Bleeder (Vocals, Guitar, Bass), Silent Sonia (Drums) and Sticky Vikki (Organ, backing vocals).
They released a festive track a few months ago titled 'Til Christmas and now they're back with an ep called Testing A Theory - The Shape Of Things To Come. It boasts 6 songs including sprightly covers of Suffragette City and I Think We're Alone Now. You can find it here : https://johnymusic.bandcamp.com/album/testing-a-theory-the-shape-of-things-to-come
This song's a definite highlight, it's called Bad Girls Go To Hell...
You don't like the things that we do - Too bad, oh well
You don't like the things that we say - never mind, OK
You don't like the drugs that we take - Too bad, oh well
And you're always telling me that Bad Girls Go To Hell.
You don't like the things that we do
too bad, so fuck you
You don't like how much we drink
You don't like the way that we think
We think, we think you suck
You don't like the way that we live - Too bad, oh well
You don't like the things that we say - never mind but OK
You don't like anything
And you're always telling me that Bad Girls Go To Hell
So I'll see you in hell
We're good, we're good at being bad
They've a new album on the way via Spaghetty Town Records (USA) and Wanda Records (Europe). It'll be titled On The Loose and it's out on April 5th. They recently released a first single from it called Dogs and you can find that here : https://ravagers.bandcamp.com/track/dogs
They'll also be touring Europe to promote the album
The 2nd single from the album is a double A sided affair. It features both "a snotty, high-octane anti-love anthem that cuts through the noise with a jagged, Motorhead-style riff and walking bass lines" and a flip side that "taps into a darker, more sinister energy with a riff that could have come straight off the Damned's first album."
This one's an anthemic stomper called Razor Love...
Thee Cha Cha Chas (https://www.facebook.com/TheeChaChaChas) are Kylie Coufos (bass/vocals) and Lluis Fuzzhound (guitar/drums/vocals), a rock n roll duo from Melbourne.
They've been releasing singles since 2016 but they've finally got round to a full length album. It's called Temple Of Mirth and it's available on vinyl and digital d/l from Madrid label FOLC Records :
It's a cool album that showcases the band's talents and their love for the garage punk/60's style rock n roll genre. Give it a listen, you'll enjoy yourself.
I'm highlighting this uptempo duet, it's called Don't Lie To Me...
No messing around today, just an instant toe tapping modern day rock n roll classic.
Hailing from La Spezia, Italy, The Peawees (https://www.facebook.com/thepeawees) have been around since 1995. They've built up a strong following over the years and those fans will no doubt be eagerly anticipating the release of a new album on September 6th. It'll be titled One Ride and it's going to be available via Wild Honey Records (Italy) as well as FOLC Records (Spain) and Spaghetty Town Records (North America).
To get us in the mood they've just released a single, it's about "authenticity, the importance of staying true to yourself, and trusting your instincts: when you live life trying to be something you're not, you're just like a kid playing cowboys with toy guns and plastic bullets" and it's a catchy little devil. You can get it on 7" vinyl (magenta, white/marbled or black) or digital download here : https://thepeawees.bandcamp.com/album/plastic-bullets
It's called Plastic Bullets...
Whatever it takes
So now you say goodbye
to the role you played
til you ran out of time
now you're the winner
of a gold box full of nails
but you know you've got what it takes so
Plastic Bullets x 2
Have you read the new tips in the magazine?
How to feed your ego and your self esteem
now you're the winner
of a gold box full of nails
but you know you've got what it takes so
Plastic Bullets x 2
And you missed that train again
Waiting for someone to tell you where to go
And you missed that train again
while you're trusting everybody but your gut
Plastic Bullets
The chatroom for last night's Just Some Punk Songs show seemed very keen on this song, with a couple of listeners deciding it was their favourite song of the evening. As good a reason as any to get it on here.
Fast Eddy (https://www.facebook.com/fasteddydenver) are a quartet from Denver, Colorado who's line up features Arj Narayan (drums/backing vocals), Micah Morris (vocals/guitar), Lisandro Gutierrez (guitar) & Devon Kane (bass). They play tuneful garage rock with influences ranging from The Stooges through to The Hives with a dash of power pop added to the mix. You can find their earliest releases here : https://fasteddy.bandcamp.com/album/s-t
2022 saw them release their most recent album, Take A Look, and they'll be following that up with a new album which will be titled To The Stars. It'll be available via Spaghetty Town Records (USA), Boulevard Trash (USA) and Beluga Records (EU). The first single from it dropped last month and was called Spirit Commander (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXsRVvled3U).
This is the new one, it's about relationships, inner conflicts and having to decide whether to carry on going through the motions or to get out. It's called In Too Deep...
The latest ep sees them tackle 4 Misfits covers with the sultry vocals of Donatella Guide breathing new life into those classic punk staples.
This is the opening track, it originally appeared on The Misfits' 1999 classic album Famous Monsters. It's called Saturday Night and it features the line that gives THE BEATERSBAND's ep it's name...
Hm, hm Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh Oh, oh, oh, oh
There's 52 ways to murder anyone One and two are the same and they both work as well I'm coming clean for Amy Julie doesn't scream as well and the cops won't listen all night And so maybe, maybe I'll be over Just as soon as I fill 'em all in
And I can remember when I saw her last We were runnin' all around and havin' a blast, havin' a blast But the back seat of the drive-in is so lonely without you I know when you're home
I was thinkin' about you There was somethin' I forgot to say I was tryin' on Saturday night I was out cruisin' without you They were playin' our song Cryin' on Saturday night
As the moon becomes the nighttime You go viciously, quietly, away I'm sitting in the bedroom Where we used to sit and smoke cigarettes Now I'm watchin', watchin' you die Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I can remember when I saw her last We were runnin' all around and havin' a blast But the back seat of the drive-in is so lonely without you I know when you're home
I was thinkin' about you There was somethin' I forgot to say I was tryin' on Saturday night I was out cruisin' without you They were playin' our song Cryin' on Saturday night
Yeah, yeah, yeah Tryin' on Saturday night Tryin' on Saturday night
I've got some no nonsense, Hi-energy rock n roll for you today courtesy of Leeds outfit The Yalla Yallas (https://www.facebook.com/theyallayallasleeds/). They've a new album on the way, it'll be their 6th (previous releases are available here : https://www.theyallayallas.com/store) and it'll be titled Absolution. Going off the evidence presented by the first single from it, it's going to be a blast.
Featuring a line up of Rob Galloway (Vocals/Guitar), Will Grinder (Guitar), Vince Cayo (Bass), Grant Henderson (Drums) & Matthew Dempsey (Backings Vocals), it's a song bursting with energy. It's called Atomic Clock and here's the video...
Nottingham punks New Generation Superstars (https://www.facebook.com/newgenrocks) have been around for over 2 decades but, as proved by their new album Agree to Disagree, they're as good as ever.
Over the years there's been tours galore (in front of their rabid fans The Bastard Division), line up changes and mainstream attention. The one constant has been their ability to put out catchy punk n roll anthems. You'll have to look hard to find a bad song amongst their back catalogue.
The new album is released on the band's own Underdog Records label on coloured vinyl, cd and digital download. It's a collection of 14 songs which should be played loud ("if it's too loud, you're too old"). It's music to bounce around to, proper life affirming stuff. Nothing too complicated, just a whole bunch of fun.
The next single from the album is going to be Radio, a fond look back at the radio stars of yesteryear and I'm going to play that on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show later today : https://www.facebook.com/events/302955555479148/
For the blog though I'll go with this one. It reminds me a little of She's The One by The Ramones with a few added backing chants. It's a very infectious ditty and it's called She's No Fun...
If you like your music rocking with plenty of attitude then it's an album you need to check out. It's the follow up to their 2018 debut Let's Go! and it takes everything that was great about that album and takes things to the next level.
There's been a few nice comments received recently either on here, on Youtube or on Facebook thanking me for posting great music. Whilst it's nice to get such comments, it's not a hard task to share stuff, the hard task is creating it so thanks to all the band's who are working so hard to keep this wonderful genre of music so much fun. One of those bands, which I encourage you to shower with positive comments, are from New York and are called PEDICO https://www.facebook.com/pediconyc).
They look to have been around for a little over a decade and whilst I didn't think I'd come across them before, a quick listen to the Ramones influenced Freedom Bop from the 4 to the Floor ep reveals that I certainly have previously had the pleasure. Their latest release is an 8 track mini album titled Winter Dance Party (named after the infamous 1959 tour featuring Buddy Holly, Dion and the Belmonts, Ritchie Valens, the Big Bopper and Frankie Sardo which led to Don McLean singing about "the day the music died." It was also a great album by The Spaceshits).
I'm still getting hints of that Ramones influence but this time around there's much more of a retro vibe. It's golden era rock n roll, it's fun, it's certainly music to party to. Definitely a release to check out, it's streaming here : https://pedico.bandcamp.com/album/winter-dance-party
This is the opening track, straight from the upbeat guitar intro you'll be hooked. It's called (Wanna Wanna Wanna) Die Tonite??
Ok, I want to conjure up a little scenario for you. Imagine Zombie Elvis taking a fast ride with the Shangri Las while listening to a Ramones, Cramps mix tape and drinking Motorhead Beer. That's the vibe The Dead Beats (https://www.facebook.com/deadbeatsrocknroll) are aiming for. They do a pretty good job.
The band line up like this : Johny Skullknuckles (vocals/guitar), The Reverend Paul Confused (guitar/vocals), John "as advertised" (bass) & Ben Grim (drums). If any of those names are familiar you may recognise them as being members or ex members of bands such as Goldblade, Anti Nowhere League, Jayne County, The Business, Poison Hearts, The Confused, Motorvators etc.
They released an album last year titled Die Screaming, Marienne! A bakers dozen of horror themed punk n roll with many of the songs being named after genre movies (Drag Me To Hell, The Devil Rides Out, The Night Of The Living Dead etc...). It was very decent Misfits inspired fun.
This is the title track, it's a cover of a song by The Bones (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6nrihZTjhQ) that was on their Screwed, Blued and Tattooed album and it's called Monsters Prefer Blondes...
The Mudd Club (https://www.facebook.com/themuddclub) are the Bristol city rockers who featured on here a couple of years ago with a track from their Bottle Blonde album (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/09/the-mudd-club-bored-to-death.html). Originally from Lawrence, Kansas and now splitting their time between Bristol and the Welsh town of Machynlleth, they're a trio comprising of Sadie Morningstar (vocals/guitar), Joe Trudgeon (bass) & Julian West (drums) who play a vibrant brand of rock n roll that it's hard to believe that anyone of their tender years should be so well versed in.
Their star is very much in the ascendant and that surge in popularity will only continue with the release of a new album titled Give Me A Thrill. It's 10 tracks of cool music by cool kids, it's an album that'll get your hips a shaking and your toes a tapping, it's a deliciously fresh take on old fashioned (but timeless) music. It's going to be available on white vinyl late March/early April but the cd and digital download are out now : https://themuddclub.bandcamp.com/album/give-me-a-thrill
What do you get if you take members of C.O.F.F.I.N., Stiff Richards and Cutters and lock them in a room for a week with nothing but gravel to gargle and Motorhead albums pumping out of the sound system? You'd probably get something like this...
Polute are Ben Portnoy (drums/vocals), Arron Mawson (guitar) & Brendan Stringer (bass). They're a 3 piece from Rye. They're this week's Australian band of the week (recent winners of that accolade include the likes of The Prize, Mannequin Death Squad, Split System (a band who also feature Arron Mawson), Boudicca, The Owen Guns and Doe Street (a band who also feature Arron Mawson!)).
They've just released a debut ep that's 4 tracks of raw, sleazy punk n roll with Ben gargling his way through his vocal duties as though his throat is in serious need of copious TCP whilst the rest of the band thrash away furiously in support. A Self Titled offering, it's available on ltd edition coloured 7" vinyl (deep purple or piss orange) and digital download via Legless Records https://polute.bandcamp.com/album/polute
Now after moaning yesterday about people sending me music (An unfair moan as I love them all, I just want to have fun finding music to feature on my own rather than to feel beholden to anyone who's just trying to share the fruits of their labour to a wider audience), today I'm featuring a song that was messaged to me by punk enthusiast Paul Austin. His name may not be familiar to most of you but hopefully his very fine Facebook Group, New Music for punks/new wavers, is
The Heat Inc. (https://www.facebook.com/TheHeatInc) claim to be London's loudest rock n roll band. You've possibly already had the pleasure, they're being championed by the likes of 6 Music and Vive Le Rock and they've been favourably received by punk luminaries such as Paul Simonon (Clash) and Michael Bradley (Undertones). Cited as drawing from the likes of The Rolling Stones, Stooges, Ramones, The Clash, Nick Cave, The Doors and Pixies, they're on a definite upward trajectory.
And they've got a new single out. It's very good. This is a talented band. They line up Jon Dodd - vocals, Marco Simoncelli - guitar & backing vocals, Nicolas Rigot - bass & backing vocals & Maurizio Vitale - drums, percussion & backing vocals. You can get the single here :
let's go back to Tulsa to 1943 your birthright is the eye with which you capture everything just shy o'er a thousand days with Bill to route 'cause once the needle's loaded it's never coming out
YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU, MAN LIKE I HOPE SHE LOVE ME TOO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU, MAN NO MATTER WHAT I SAY OR DO AND THE MOST DANGEROUS THING THAT I COULD DO IS WATCH YOU DO THESE THINGS DRAW BLOOD FOR PROOF
let's go back to Tulsa to 1963 with ivy hair and pallid skin and sweet amphetamine still Jesus hangs just beyond that windshield spiderweb with a rifle and a riverbank and leaves to rest your head
let's go back to Tulsa to 1968 dry blood comes tough from collar/cuff yet through grain dissipates let's go back to Tulsa to 1971 it's an accidental gunshot wound and a brand new buried son
Baltimore, Maryland's, "RAVAGERS" (https://www.facebook.com/ravagersgang) have been on my radar since 2013. There was something about them that reminded me of one of my favourite bands ever from that city "The Beatings". They had that same grimy, Punk Rock & Roll aesthetic that only comes from living that life.
After dropping one of my favourite songs/videos from last year "Down That Road", the boys have followed it up with what I'm going on record as saying will be my "Rock & Roll Album Of The Year" for 2022! "Badlands" https://ravagers.bandcamp.com/album/badlands is EVERYTHING I love about this kind of music!
If you miss those early 2000 days when bands like American Heartbreak, D Generation, Libertine, NY Loose and Trash Brats were stomping everyone's ideas of what "Rock" should sound like into the ground - well HERE'S your new favourite band! 10 songs that could have come out in 1984, 2001 or right f'ing now! This is as classic and as timeless as it gets in 2022 my friends.
If vinyl is your thing then head to Spaghetty Town Records (US) or Wanda Records (Europe)
The last song I posted on here was by The Courettes and they're a band who bring the sounds of the 60's into the modern age. Similar can be said of St. Petersburg, Florida, duo The New Brutarians (https://www.facebook.com/thenewbrutarians). Although channelling maybe more of an early 70's vibe they're another band who transport us back in time without sounding dated. A look at their influences reveals that their record collections contain music from the likes of Alex Chilton, Nikki Sudden, Lou Reed, Dogs D'amour, Tronics, Rolling Stones, Modern Lovers, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Thunders etc. They aren't a carbon copy of any of them but do cherry pick the best bits.
Lining up with Christina Wright (Drums & Vocals) and Adam Turkel (Guitars/Bass/Keyboards /Vocals), they've been around since 2018 and you can check out their music here : https://thenewbrutarians.bandcamp.com/
They're gearing up for the release of a new album titled Hysteria and have paved the way for it with a teaser single. The New Muse ep features 3 non album b sides (Barter Baby (I'll Trade You My Heart), The New Brutarian and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Go Your Own Way) as well as a title track that does a great job of ramping up expectations.
It's a mix of dream pop and rock n roll who's Fleetwood Mac Rumours sleeve has me wondering if it's about Stevie Nicks & Mick Fleetwood. I'm not sure if that's right or not but I do know it's a very good song. This is New Muse...
They formed in 1986 and they play "hi-speed-boogie-fuzz-garage-trash-rock-n-roll songs." They've just released their 8th album. It's titled You're Class, I'm Trash and it's a trash masterpiece. It's a feast of budget garage punk n roll which sounds as though it was a lot of fun to make and is certainly a lot of fun to listen to. 13 shouty, deceptively simplistic and very effective tracks. Mark E Smith once sung about the three R's (Repitition, Repitition, Repitition) and that's what you get with many of the lyrics. But it works, All you daughters and sons who are sick of fancy music, you're gonna dig it.

For the second time in just over a week I'm bringing you a new song from one of the coolest labels around (following on from a track by The Boatsmen). Spaghetty Town Records (https://www.facebook.com/SpaghettyTown / https://spaghettytownrecords.bigcartel.com/) is an independent label from Atlanta, Georgia who are building up a very impressive catalogue of releases ("dirty rock, punk, power pop, bovver rock and whatever else we like"). Today I'm featuring a song from a 6 track ep which will be out (digitally) next week.
The track you'll find below is a catchy singalong in which frontman Chase Tail is singing about his heart whilst a boogie woogie piano competes with guitar and drum to showcase a Chuck Berry influence. I'm looking forward to hearing the full release.
