YAKKIE - Kill The Cop Inside Your Head

YAKKIE are a punk supergroup from London who are fronted by Janey Starling who you may remember was the vocalist for Dream Nails and who guested on a few tracks on the Petrol Girls album, Baby. Also in the band are Robin Gatt (Personal Best & Petrol Girls) on guitar & vocals, Laura Ankles (Colour Me Wednesday) on bass & vocals and Maeve Westall (Itoldyouiwouldeatyou) on drums.

They've a debut album pencilled in for next February and to give us a taste of what to expect they've just released the title track. https://yakkie.bandcamp.com/track/kill-the-cop-inside-your-head

It's a song about breaking out of the prison that is your mind and striving for a better future. It's called Kill The Cop Inside Your Head...

KILL THE COP INSIDE YOUR HEAD!
DON’T LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAID!

BURN DOWN THE PANOPTICON
YOUR MIND IS A PRISON
ARM THE DREAMERS
TEAR APART THE SEAMS AND
RUN RUN RUN RUN RUN

YOUR IMAGINATION IS THE DOOR TO YOUR LIBERATION
YOUR MIND IS NOT A COMMODITY
REJECT ‘SCARCITY’ / REJECT ‘PRACTICAL’ / REJECT ‘REASONABLE’

OUR HOPE IS A MUSCLE. IS AN AXE. IS A TONIC.
THAT WE HAVE TO USE EVERY SINGLE DAY

AS WIDEMAN WARNED US:
“DO NOT FALL ASLEEP
IN YOUR ENEMY’S DREAM”

GOLD CUP - The Piss Has Been Taken

I feel I should know more about GOLD CUP (https://www.instagram.com/gimmiegoldcup/). They're from Manchester, they introduced themselves a couple of years ago with debut single 8 Ball but I don't think I played anything on the show till recent single Zero Percent.

  So let's make amends today.

Their new 6 track ep is titled The Piss Has Been Taken and it's available on cassette via Sour Grapes Records.

  It's also available digitally here : https://goldcup.bandcamp.com/album/the-piss-has-been-taken

Here's the infectious title track, The Piss Has Been Taken...

School Drugs - Funeral Arrangements (Guest Review By Ralph J Rivera)

It's no secret that I was one of the biggest supporters of "Night Birds". From their early opening gigs to their farewell 2 night spot at Asbury Park's "House Of Independents". I was literally crushed when they announced their break-up.

But luckily for us here at "The Jersey Shore" we have no shortage of bands that were willing to take their place. Enter - "School Drugs" (https://www.facebook.com/schooldrugs). A band I've been friends with before they even existed.

Their lead singer Josh Jurk is a "Lifer". He lives and breathes Punk Rock history & culture. We became friends upon our first meeting. Along with bass player Edgar I've known these guys since they were "Punk Pups". So I've gotten to see "School Drugs" evolve the same way I watched "Night Birds". Starting out as a 80's "inspired" Thrash/Hardcore band they transformed with each new release. Adding a second guitarist & acquiring the drum skills of Chris Pierce the plan was put in motion. Release a series of 7" EP's that would eventually culminate into a full length. Well my friends that mission has been accomplished with the release of "Funeral Arrangements".

All 4 EP's combined to form one of the best examples of Modern Punk Rock you'll ever hear. Without being biased this is easily my pick for "Modern Punk Rock Album Of The Year". 12 songs that reach their apex in the final title track. I LOVE my "Jersey Shore" music scene and I'm so proud of all these guys have accomplished. Do yourself a favor and wrap your head around the NEW best Punk Band in New Jersey!

  Here's "Funeral Arrangements" LISTEN! ENJOY!

The Threats - Digital People

It's been pretty much exactly a year since I previously featured East Midlands band The Threats (https://www.instagram.com/thethreatsuk/). That time around I was posting their 3rd single, Time Waits For No Man  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2024/10/the-threats-time-waits-for-no-man.html

Today they return with an equally raucous single. (https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/thethreats1/digital-people).

As I've still not unearthed too much info on the band I'll pad things out a little by posting both the live version of the song and the studio version. This is digital people...

Vista Blue - Bigmouth Strikes Out Again

It's been a while since I've posted anything on here by Nashville power pop heroes Vista Blue (https://www.facebook.com/wearevistablue). They've featured more times than anyone and I guess there's only so many nice things I can say about them before I get repetitive.

But when I heard that their new EP is all baseball songs based on titles from The Smiths' The Queen Is Dead album, I thought it was time to remind you all of their magnificence.

There's 6 songs, mostly fast paced and all catchy & fun. Even my heavenly friend Billy Leeds would (probably) approve of this one (though with it being a Vista Blue/Smiths combo he might not admit it!).

The ep is titled The Shift Is Dead and you can find it as a name your price download here :  https://wearevistablue.bandcamp.com/album/the-shift-is-dead

This song is called Bigmouth Strikes Out Again...

The Bobby Lees - Napoleon

The Bobby Lees (https://www.facebook.com/TheBobbyLees) are a powerhouse of a band from Woodstock, New York who I wasn't sure I'd be hearing from again. Following the release of their highly acclaimed 2022 album, Bellevue, it looked as though the world was their oyster. Unfortunately they seemed to grow disenchanted with the state of the music industry and decided to go on indefinite hiatus.

Happily, they're back. Signed up to Epitaph Records and with an impressive new single.  https://thebobbylees.bandcamp.com/album/napoleon

Watching the video it seems they've slimmed down to a trio but they've lost none of their energy. You listen to many rock bands these days and often it's a struggle to work out the lyrics. Sam Quartin however has a vocal delivery where every word is clear as a bell. Always a great way of getting your message across.

  This is Napoleon...

The Out-Sect - Where's My Smokes

The Out-Sect (https://www.facebook.com/TheOutSect) are a fuzzed out garage punk quintet from Philadelphia featuring a line up of Lisa (vocals/guitar), Grey (lead guitar), Romain (drums), Laura (bass/backing vocals) & Todd (harmonica/organ).

They've been releasing music since 2020. One of those songs, Go Away (https://theoutsect.bandcamp.com/track/go-away), ended up grabbing the number 11 spot in the Just Some Punk Songs 2022 end of year Top 100 chart.

They've just unleashed a new 14 song album titled Primitive Sound. The title sums up pretty well what you're gonna get... primitive, authentic sounding garage rock. It's available on vinyl from Drowned World Records :

If digital is your thing then head over to Bandcamp :

This song is pretty much all you want from a garage punk stomper, it's called Where's My Smokes...

Roxie & The Razorblades - So This Is Capitalism

Without a doubt, one of my favourite discoveries of 2025 has been London street punks Roxie & The Razorblades (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61576340464669). I gushed effusively about their album Eat The Rich here :

Some albums boast maybe 2 or 3 great tracks and then a bunch of decent/pretty good ones. Eat The Rich was consistently great throughout so this was obviously a band to keep an eye on.

The latest news from them is that they're working on a new album but having the knack of composing top notch tunes (that are both powerful and catchy) with deceptive ease they've made that wait easier to endure by releasing a new 4 track ep titled Masters Of War. It's available as a name your price download here :  https://roxietherazorblades.bandcamp.com/album/masters-of-war-ep

Check it out, they might just become your favourite new band too.

This song is called So This Is Capitalism...

[Verse] Broken glass streets and a cold hard stare Empty bellies but they don't even care This is the land of the great divide Where dreams rot and the truth's denied [Verse 2] Steel-toed boots on the backs of the weak Every shadow’s a threat every future’s bleak They sell us war while our homes decay Oh so this is freedom they say [Chorus] So this is capitalism life on its knees Scraps for the hungry while the fat ones feast Boarded-up futures and a clawing dread We’re the living ghosts of the violently misled [Bridge] Chains of the state rattle loud and clear Eyes in the sky feed the boiling fear Marching orders in a uniform line No questions asked as they strip us blind [Verse 3] Concrete jungles and the sirens hum Broken promises we’ve all gone numb Statistics charts they bury our cries Profit and loss while the planet dies [Chorus] So this is capitalism life on its knees Scraps for the hungry while the fat ones feast Boarded-up futures and a clawing dread We’re the living ghosts of the violently misled

Dick Move - Scared Old Men

Dick Move (https://www.facebook.com/DickMoveNZ) are from Auckland, New Zealand and were previously on here a couple of years ago with a song from their second album, Wet  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2023/12/dick-move-minimum-living.html

Now we're just a little over a month away from the release of their next lp. It'll be titled Dream, Believe, Achieve and going off the evidence presented by the 3 teaser tracks it'll be a definite winner. It'll be available on vinyl (red, white or black), cd and digital download. Check it out here :  https://dickmove2.bandcamp.com/album/dream-believe-achieve

This song is an attack on the ideology of patriarchy and it's hard to disagree with the band's point of view. It's called Scared Old Men...

The Etters - A.S.O.

Here's a little something I stumbled across today whilst looking for cool new music for this week's show. It's the opening track from a rowdy as fuck new album by a garage punk trio called The Etters. They're fronted by Jerry Hormone (who's been the vocalist for The Jerry Hormone Ego Trip and guitarist for The Apers as well as featuring in a few other bands) and also feature Luna Becking (bass) & Kate Oram (drums).

The album is titled The ETTERS maken je hartstikke DOOD! (English translation: The ETTERS will make you DEAD!). It's sung in Dutch, it's fast & furious (21 songs in under 20 minutes) and it's streaming on Spotify https://open.spotify.com/album/0XtuIsDiDsJswv2ND3XwbE

Buckle up and click play, this is A.S.O.
