Ricky Rochelle - Scenederella (Guest Review by Ralph J Rivera)

So what do the following men all have in common? - Mikey Erg, Kurt Baker, Brad Marino, Geoff Palmer, Pavid Vermin, J Prozac, Dave Strong and Classic Pat. They were all once/still are members of well known "underground" bands. All now striving to carve out their own niche as solo artists.

One Mr. Ricky Rochelle has inserted himself into that exclusive club with a slew of singles, EP's, a solo album and now THIS - "Second Layer" https://rickyrochelle.bandcamp.com/album/second-layer

Obviously his second solo outing and it shows him growing more distance from his Pop Punk/Ramonescore roots. After a few listens I'm leaning on some 80's New Wave (The Vapors, The Fixx, The Police) and major 90's Manchester (Stone Roses, Charlatans, Soup Dragons) influences. There's still some Punk anger in songs like "Self Doubt" and "Turbulent" but the growth is not only musical but lyrically as well. "Envy", "Highlight Reel" & "Can't Forget The Terror" seem like they come straight from Ricky's diary.

This second chapter in one man's journey is revelatory. You can still be angry and retrospective at the same time. All in all this is a solid piece of music. Beholden to no genre. And THAT'S what I want from music in 2025 & forward! I don't doubt for a second that this man has a piano ballad or "The Police" style reggae jam up his sleeve. Here's my favorite cut off the album "Scenederella" because it rocks & we ALL know her!

Danny's Favorites - Silent Movies

Today's song is one of the great new releases that you can listen to later today on this week's Just Some Punk Songs show (Tune in at 8pm UK time https://gpr.mixlr.com/).

It's by Danny's Favorites who are the latest band featuring Rochester garage punk legend Trevor Lake. They debuted in 2020 with a fun album titled There Still Punk and proving you can't keep an old punk down they're now back with a new single.

It features a couple of tracks, Silent Movies sounds very much like a long lost new wave/power pop single from the late 70's whilst flip side Turn My Motor On is a cover of a song that was the b side of Kirsty MacColl's They Don't Know single. You can find it here :  https://dannysfavorites.bandcamp.com/album/silent-movies-turn-my-motor-on

  This is Silent Movies...

Mr. Splice Guy - The Day My Baby Gave Me a Surprise

I don't often post covers on here but this is the 2nd in 3 days. Hopefully it proves as popular as the previous one.

Mr. Splice Guy are a new collaboration between Brand New Luddites (https://brandnewluddites.bandcamp.com/) and Underwater Bosses (https://underwaterbosses.bandcamp.com/). Their vocalist has this singing malarkey in his genes as he's a descendent of Von Trapp Family (who were immortalised in The Sound Of Music).

They've just released a new ep called Procedural Degeneration on Sharawaji Records which is available on cool looking red splatter on yellow 10" vinyl, cd or digital download :   https://mrspliceguy.bandcamp.com/album/procedural-degeneration

It features 6 Devo covers that take the essence of the originals and adds twangy surf rock guitars. It tackles both the "hits" and the "lesser known classics" and it adds a pleasingly fresh spin.

This was always one of my favourite Devo songs, one I bought on 7" vinyl on one of my frequent school lunchtime trips to my local indie record store. It's called The Day My Baby Gave Me A Surprise...

The Trouble Seekers - Nervous

The Trouble Seekers (https://www.facebook.com/TheTroubleSeekers) are the Los Angeles new wave duo Kevin McGovern (The Prostitutes) and Hillary Burton (The Pandoras/Honeychain). Since the beginning of last year they've released an album and a number of singles and now they're back with possibly their best single yet.

There's 2 tracks, both worthy of being called the A side (so lets call it a Double A Sided single) and this time around they've punked things up a little. It's available as a digital download and there's also a pre order available for a limited edition cassette (100 copies) which not only includes both songs but also adds an alternate mix of MISTAKE, the 14 track debut LP and a sticker.  https://thetroubleseekers.bandcamp.com/album/nervous-scream-2

  This track is called Nervous...

I saw your face you looked away I lost my place faded away we’re off and on, we don’t belong it’s all a con, don’t change that song don’t need you too, you’re into you I’m not in the mood, not in the mood nervous feeling senses reeling I’m just a waste you’ve got good taste I’ll stay away some other day

HOME FRONT - Nation

Everything I post on hear I like a lot. Then there's a few which I like a little bit more than that. Today's song earned a place on the latter list from the first listen.

Home Front (https://www.facebook.com/arewenothomefront/) are Graeme MacKinnon (Vocals), Clint Frazier (Synths, Programming and Percussion), Brandi Strauss (Bass), Ian Rowley (Guitar) & Warren Oostlander (Drums). They're from Edmonton, Canada and are one of those bands that aren't easily categorized. Their Bandcamp tags include hardcore punk, industrial, new wave and shoegaze (and several others). They've just released a stunning debut album on La Vida Es Un Mus Discos titled Games Of Power and it displays the range of their musicianship perfectly.

I played opening track Faded State on a recent show and commented it reminded me somewhat of The Cure. Elsewhere, Contact brings to mind New Order whilst New Face Of Death still has a 1980's meets 2023 vibe but ups the pace somewhat. Born Killer for some reason makes me think of early Human League (sometime Just Some Punk Songs contributor Ralph records it's more like Suicide). The song I'm posting below is more like a shouty oi anthem (recorded after the skins have invaded the recording studio and stolen the electro boy's instruments).

This is an album you need to check out for yourselves. Every so often you'll be shouting, "they've borrowed that off New Order's Atmosphere" or more than likely another classic oldie that you can't quite put your finger on. You can get it on vinyl and digital download here :   https://lavidaesunmus.bandcamp.com/album/games-of-power-2

This song doesn't really sound much like anything else on the album, it's called Nation...

The Trouble Seekers - Falling In A Dream

A welcome return to Just Some Punk Songs today for Los Angeles duo The Trouble Seekers (https://www.facebook.com/TheTroubleSeekers). They're the new wave/dark glam outfit made up of Kevin McGovern (The Prostitutes) and Hillary Burton (The Pandoras/Honeychain). As you may know if you saw my previous write up on them (https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2022/01/the-trouble-seekers-cruel-summer.html), they take elements of punk and new wave and experiment with getting new sounds. They sound instantly familiar but slightly different. They sound heavily influenced by the 80's but at the same time fresh and modern day.

I featured their first single, Cruel Summer, and that reappears as one of many highlights on their debut, Self Titled, album. They serve up 14 tracks with Kevin and Hillary sharing vocal duties and they add occasional synth to the mix to enrich proceedings.

It's available on vinyl via Ruined Records :                                      https://www.ruinedrecords.com/product/the-trouble-seekers-s-t-lp
This is the track that's most caught my attention so far. It's called Falling In A Dream...

Tongue Tied
Someone Lied
Cheap Fame
You're So Vain

Shades Of Blue
Into You
I Don't Mind
I'm Too High
Just Beware
I'm On A Dare

Doesn't Matter To Me
Doesn't Matter To Me
Falling In A Dream
Only The Lonely
Dying Slowly
Is It Just Me, Can't You See
I'm Falling In Your Dream

Near Dark
Where's the spark
I'm Cracked
We'll Go Far

The Trouble Seekers - Cruel Summer

Kevin McGovern is a familiar name to readers of Just Some Punk Songs, he's been rocking out as frontman of The Prostitutes (https://www.facebook.com/tutespunk) since 1995. A name maybe not quite as familiar on here is Hillary Burton though she's also been active on the scene as drummer with The Pandoras and more recently as vocalist & guitarist with Honeychain (https://honeychain.bandcamp.com/).

Kevin mentioned to me a number of years ago that he was looking to enhance The Prostitutes' sound by adding female vocals to the mix, now at long last that aim has come to fruition in the form of an aggressive, new wave/experimental punk duo called The Trouble Seekers (https://www.facebook.com/TheTroubleSeekers/).

With The Prostitutes you knew that you were guaranteed classic sounding US punk rock done with both energy and style. The Trouble Seekers bring more of the same but the addition of those female vocals certainly adds to the mix. The debut single has been released and is streaming on Bandcamp (https://thetroubleseekers.bandcamp.com/releases). It'll be followed in the summer by a debut album via Rock n Roll Manifesto Records.

A heady brew of old school punk mixed with garage pop swagger, this is a very promising calling card, it's called Cruel Summer...

You wanna crash
Fade to black
Waste your time with me

Close your eyes
No surprise
No third degree

Never caught your act
Don’t show me the way
Momentary lapse
What did you say?
Were you thinking out loud?
You forgot the script
Faded memories
And a heart that’s ripped

Gone awol
I’m breaking down
Over and over again
Don’t think I ever said
I would stay
There’s nothing left

Stop and go
You’re on a roll
Cruel summer shade

The minutes slipped
The record skipped
Something out of place

Nervous Triggers - Radiation Suit

(photo : JeffcrespiROCKS)

Nervous Triggers (https://www.facebook.com/nervoustriggers) are a punk rock band from Asbury Park, New Jersey. They feature a line up of Jay Insult (lead vocals), J Nixon (bass/vocals/guitar), Patski (guitar),  Christopher "Gobo" Pierce (guitar), Chris LeSavage (drums) & Marisa Bergquist (synths/electric piano/anything with keys). They debuted 5 years ago with the 6 track Demo 2016, followed it up a year later with an ep titled Do The Drool and then put out a cool end of the world themed single earlier this year called Good Run.

Now they're finishing 2021 off on a high with another single, this time they treat us to "a new wave throwback about all the awesome stuff that made the 1980s RAD: DEVO, Superman IV, Nintendo, the looming threat of nuclear annihilation from the USA and Russia, skinny ties..."

It's a lot of fun and as a bonus they throw in an instrumental version on the flip side created by J Nixon's side project, Blankside. The single is on Bandcamp, but only until Friday when it'll switch to Spotify. Grab it now : https://nervoustriggers.bandcamp.com/album/radiation-suit or pre save :  https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/nervoustriggers/radiation-suit

  This is Radiation Suit...

Now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit Now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit Non-proliferation was the goal, but now the point is moot And now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit They're revoking the treaties They're rebuilding the walls The good old KGB is back, baby They're tapping all of our calls They're enriching uranium Nostalgia's all the rage The Cold War was the coolest Bring on the new Atomic Age Now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit Now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit Non-proliferation was the goal, but now the point is moot And now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit Superman was on a Quest For Peace To throw the nukes into the sun But Lex Luthor made a nuclear beast Lex Luthor has a nuclear gun Lex Luthor's in the White House now Our efforts added up to nothin' The biggest supervillains in the world Have got their fingers on the buttons And now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit Now the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit We're going on the march, so dust off your old Cold War boots Because the future's so bright, I gotta wear a radiation suit

The Linda Lindas - Oh!

Another fun one today as The Linda Lindas (https://www.facebook.com/TheLindaLindas) unleash their new single. Currently one of the most talked about new bands around, they're also one of the youngest. Based in Los Angeles they're two sisters, a cousin, and their close friend; 10 year old Mila, Eloise (13), Lucia (14) & Bela (16). Two of them are Asian, two Latinx and they mix up the spirit of punk rock with a healthy dose of both power pop and new wave. They took their name from a 1987 song by Japanese punks The Blue Hearts

I've played a few of their songs on the Just Some Punk Songs show including the excellent Racist, Sexist Boy which they performed a blistering version of at the LA Public Library (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5AhU5Q7vH0) and which seemed to bring them to the attention of a whole new audience. Signing to Epitaph hasn't done them any harm either!

You can download the single here : https://thelindalindas.bandcamp.com/album/oh

  It's called Oh!...

Oh when I say something I wish I had shut up (oh!) And when I try to help, I always screw things up (oh!) The places that feel right, They never last too long (oh!) And when I think of things, They always turn out wrong Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh when I say something Nobody backs me up (oh!) When I try by myself, I mess it up (oh!) Oh when they say something You always suck it up (oh!) And when I try to help It never is enough Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! What can I do, what can I do? What can I say, what can I say? What can I do, what can I do? Nothing changes it’s all the same Why do I say something Say anything at all (oh!) It seems that when I try I always take the fall (oh!) But when I don’t speak up There’s nothing but regret (oh!) I can’t stop thinking of What could’ve happened next Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! What can I do, what can I do? What can I say, what can I say? What can I do, what can I do? Nothing changes it’s all the same Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!

Whats Your Damage? - Democracy

Quinn Anderson (Vocals), Sean Kelly (Bass), Wiley Willis (Drums) & Bobby Shields (Guitars) make up Chicago quartet What's Your Damage? (https://www.facebook.com/whatsyourdamagechicago). They return to Just Some Punk Songs for the third time today. Unfortunately, as they're calling it their last album, I fear it maybe their swansong?

If that is the case then the album's aptly titled. It's called Concluded, features 8 tracks of their trademark punk/post-punk/new wave influenced sound and it's available now as a name your price download :  https://whatsyourdamage.bandcamp.com/album/concluded

I've previously mentioned how I'm a fan of Quinn's distinctive vocals and she's still impressing on this release. The songs deal with subjects such as the pressure to strive for the perfect 10 body, the occupation of Palestine, feeling trapped and alone in one's own mind etc. Weighty topics from a band that will be missed if indeed this is their final release.

This track is probably the highlight for me, it's another scathing political commentary and it's called Democracy...

What’s Your Damage? - Useless Generation

There's something about Quinn Anderson's vocals that draws me in. They're simultaneously distinctive, yet at the same time naggingly familiar. She's the focal point of Chicago new wave quartet What's Your Damage? and is ably backed by Wiley Willis (drums), Sean Kelly (bass) and Bob Shields (guitar). They featured on here back at the start of 2020 when Jason Long introduced us to a song from their Self Titled (very good and name your price so go snap it up) 8 track ep  https://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.com/2020/01/whats-your-damage-killing-spree-guest.html

They return today with another 80's influenced winner, this time taken from the split album they released in September in collaboration with Houston, Texas duo The Prettybads. It's another name your price digital delight with What's Your Damage? dealing with modern day issues such as our buy buy buy society, police violence, uniting against discrimination, a call for workers to revolt etc...

The song I'm featuring from it also features on a very decent compilation album from Thumper Punk Records titled United We Skate Vol. 6. https://thumperpunkrecords.bandcamp.com/album/united-we-skate-vol-6

  This is Useless Generation...

Future Punx - Mind Over Matter (Guest Review By Ralph Rivera)

Another guest review today from Ralph Rivera. He's been getting excited recently over Future Punx (https://www.facebook.com/FuturePunx/) and would like to share his thoughts....

In 2020 we've pretty much heard it all by now. Most Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Power Pop and Post Punk can all be linked to bands that existed decades ago. So where do we turn to for something original? Ladies and Gentlemen let me introduce you to your new musical obsession - Future Punx!

This Brooklyn, New York, quartet (Nicholas Martin (Drums), Jake Pepper (Guitars/Vox/Sequencing), Chris Pickering (Bass/Vox/Sequencing) and Heather Strange (Synth/Vox)) have somehow ABSORBED every aspect of 80's New Wave and created something completely original and unique. Take Tubeway Army, Human League, Gang Of Four, Missing Persons and even Italian Disco and you have music for the body as well as the mind!

Since 2013 this band has been releasing EP's and LP's but in June of this year they dropped their dance floor manifesto simply called "2020". Eleven songs to get you moving. My pick is "Mind Over Matter" but on any given day I could also go with the female vocals of "(It's A) Woman's World."

THIS is what you've been looking for! And on a separate note you HAVE to hear their amazing cover of my favorite X song ever - "The World's A Mess (It's In My Kiss)" off their 2019 The World Is A Mess EP.

You can get the album (and the ep AND a new live album) here : https://futurepunx.bandcamp.com/

What's Your Damage? - Killing Spree (Guest Review by Jason Long)

A guest review for you today courtesy of Jason Long. Jason recommends we all check out the new Self Titled ep by Chicago band What's Your Damage? After listening to several of the songs, it's a recommendation I'd heartily endorse.

  Over to you Jason...

Great news for punk fans, especially those who have a craving for that early post punk noise mixed with a bit of 80s new wave! What's Your Damage? is set to release an 8 track EP on Jan. 17th!

There's a few reasons this could be a choice album for you. First off, WYD? specializes in the sounds of yesteryear, but it comes out as a breath of fresh air. I don't want to refer to it as a throwback, because the band puts youthful energy in to it. Really, it's a nice alternative to the ear splitting genres of punk we all love so much, but not too far from home, as it's still upbeat catchy jams.

Secondly, I'm not the biggest fan of female vocals... that's just me, can't help it. I find a lot of female punk vocalists add accents and shrilling noises that my ears reject. That's not the case with Quinn. She has a clear delivery and gets right down to the point. Her vocals match well with the driving rhythms.

Also, this EP is one of those albums I refer to as "an anytime album". It doesn't require a certain mood or situation. It mixes well in playlists, or as a complete playthrough. Check out some tracks at https://whatsyourdamage.bandcamp.com/ and preorder your copy!

Killing Spree is infectious song and worthy of a few listens!

The Blankz - (I Just Want To) SLAM!

A song that went down well on a recent Just Some Punk Songs show  (https://www.mixcloud.com/mick-fletcher/just-some-punk-songs-070818/) was Sissy Glue. It's the flip side to The Blankz White Baby (debut) single and it had me paying attention for any new material the band might release. The wait wasn't a long one as they're very quickly back with a new 7" single. Released on Slope Records (https://sloperecords.com/releases/) it's the second ep in a series of nine (the next one, I'm A Gun, is pencilled in for 14th September). All the songs will eventually be released as a compilation album.

The Blankz are from Phoenix and despite having only been around since last year already seem to be getting noticed (even MTV are getting in on the act). Reviewers are pitching them somewhere between Devo and The Ramones. If you haven't stumbled across them yet, they're fun, give them a listen. You can find both singles on Bandcamp, both are excellent.  https://theblankz.bandcamp.com/

They're a 5 piece and feature Tommy Blank (vocals), Jaime Blank (guitar), Nikki Blank (synthesizer), Andy Blank (bass) and Johnny Blank (drums). Nikki Blank is aka Nicole Laurenne from super cool garage rockers The Darts. You can get more info here : https://www.facebook.com/theblankzband/

The Blankz are 2/9ths of the way to an absolutely killer comp. Round and round, here we go, dodge those fists and take a blow. This is called (I Just Want To) SLAM!

Shux - Not a Not Nazi

Shux are an experimental punk band from Missouri who I first became aware of last year when I came across their song I Don't Wanna Indoor Toilet on the Horrendous New Wave album. It was released by Fish Records (a sub label of Lumpy Records, the label started up by Martin Meyer who's featured in a number of great bands including Lumpy And The Dumpers, BB Eye, Cal And The Calories etc...).

Earlier this month they released a 5 track demo. As well as I Don't Wanna Indoor Toilet, there's 3 more original compositions plus a cover of Devo's Goo Goo Itch. You can, and should, snap up the demo name your price....   https://shuxshuxshux.bandcamp.com/releases

If you have a liking for slightly off kilter, female fronted post punk/new wave then you should enjoy Shux. There's a definite Devo influence to their sound whilst the vocals remind me of so many great innovative bands from punk's history. Definitely best played loud, definitely a grower. This is Not A Not Nazi....

BB Eye - Cops with Indigestion

Quick question, What Do Nancy Sinatra, The Fall and BB Eye have in common?

Answer, they've all recorded great versions of a song written by Lee Hazelwood called The City Never Sleeps At Night. Not that you might realise from looking at the title of today's song but it's the BB Eye version that I'm posting today.

BB Eye are from the oddly named Knob Noster which is a city in Johnson County, Missouri. They previously appeared on this blog early last year with a song from their debut ep (http://justsomepunksongs.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/bb-eye-texas-chainsaw-mascara.html). Since then they've released a 7 track maxi ep/mini album? called How To Stop Worrying And Start Quacking (you probably won't have heard many songs like lead track My Clam Is So Rottten). Then in December they took a rerecorded version of a track from How To Stop Worrying (Headcheese Heartthrob) and used it as the title track of a new 8 track album. If you're a fan of weird and wonderful then you can check out all 3 releases here :  https://bbeye.bandcamp.com/

So what does it sound like? Well in my previous review I called it calypso new wave but I like the description of the new record that seems to be getting widely quoted which calls it "The sound of ducks fucking. The sound of little apple cores hopping around atop some cute boutique bootleg Plastics and Ramones Tshirts ! New Wave is rotting" Heck, just have a listen yourselves

  This is Cops With Indigestion....

Old men, young men
Preachers saying "Amen"
Taking up collection
Playing on a bass drum
How come the city never sleeps at night?

Red cars, blue cars
Payment overdue cars
Cops with indigestion
Millionaires and some bums
How come the city never sleeps at night?

The city, it never sleeps at night

Short girls, tall girls
Happy that they're all girls
Walking with tonight’s love
Holding hands and then some

How come the city it never sleeps at night?

Good guys, bad guys
Millionaires and show guys
Losers with their hands out
Pigeons begging breadcrumbs
How come the city never sleeps at night?

The city never sleeps at night

Long nights, short nights
Big hellos and goodnights
Dreams and conversation
Not a single ho-hum
How come the city never sleeps at night?

Old men, young men
Preachers saying "Amen"
Taking up collection
Playing on a bass drum
How come the city never sleeps at night?

Dirt Royal - Waiting For The Radio

Dirt Royal are a trio from Brighton who formed in 2013 and who have a happy knack of writing tunes catchy enough to attract the attention of Radio 6, Rolling Stone Magazine, BBC Introducing and even legendary Clash guitarist Mick Jones who described them as "Brilliant." None other than Jimmy Pursey compares them with The Kinks and I think that's a damn good summing up of their sound which combines elements of punk, new wave and mod and which would have seen them bothering the upper reaches of the chart a couple of decades ago.

They released their debut album, This Is Now, in 2014 on Time For Action Records (Time For Action being another good indication of their sound for those of you that can remember the 1979 Secret Affair classic). They've also had great reviews for the Dr Weekend single. Successful tours around the Uk (including the Rebellion Festival) and overseas (especially in Germany) have built up an impressive fanbase and the band are bound to go from strength to strength with the release of recent single Waiting For The Radio.

The line up of the band is Charlie Russell (vocals/bass), Leon Fenton (vocals/guitar) and Loz Hood (drums). They've been busy touring in support of the single and you can find more details either on Facebook or here :  http://www.dirtroyal.co.uk/

Mutha Luvin Chimps - Red Alert

Manchester band Mutha Luvin Chimps take their cues from the best. A glance at their Facebook profile tells you that their influences include The Buzzcocks, Undertones, Ramones, The Jam, SLF etc... They deliver original music that's melodic and refreshing. Spawned by a love of classic era punk but with a modern twist.

The current line up features Jonny Baggs (vocals), Nozzer (guitar), The Saint (bass/vocals) and Silverback (drums). A click on their website will bring you to their Life, Love & Daytime TV cd which is available in physical form or for free digital download : http://www.mlcuk.com/music

In a couple of days they release their catchy as hell new single. It's a song about an alien invasion of Earth by orange skinned women with weird duck like faces wearing Primark boots (you've no doubt seen their like round your local town centre). Call Captain Kirk, this is Red Alert......

Don't shoot, we're empty handed,
Weird girls from outer space have landed,
They look strange and they all dress the same
It's insane!

Oh my god! The Martian girls have landed!
Orange skin, boots primarny branded,
I think it's time to call Captain Kirk
This is Red Alert!

Call the cops! Their laser guns are booming,
With eye brows that are clearly not human,
A strange race, beaming down from outer space,
With a strange duck face!

Don't look now, the Martian girls have landed,
Orange skin, boots primarny branded,
I think it's time to call Captain Kirk,
This is Red Alert!

The chances of anything coming from Mars was a million to one he said,
Who is that girl on the high street with silicon brains in her head?
Laser guns are set to stun, emergency code red,
It's getting worse, where's Captain Kirk?
Call Flash Gordon instead......

Oh my god! The Martian girls have landed......
IT'S RED ALERT!

The Bloodtypes - Surveillance State

Catchy, keyboard driven new wave today from The Bloodtypes.

Forming in 2010 and from Portland, Oregon, The Bloodtypes feature Schneck Tourniquet (vocals/keys), I.V. Frehley (guitar/vocals), Jesse B Negative (bass/vocals) and Matt O Demic (drums) and are a band that are here to save your life. Injecting a transfusion of fun into what can sometimes be an overly serious punk scene, they sing about subjects like spies, space mutants, sexy nurses, Commies and cats.....

Their debut album, Just Your Type, came out in 2012 and it was followed a year later by the Johnny ep. Their latest release is on both P. Trash and Bomb Pop Records and is called Pull The Plug and you can check it out here : http://thebloodtypes.bandcamp.com/

Just what the doctor ordered, this is Surveillance State......

I’ve been the best that I can be
Tried to conform to society
It is clear that things got out of hand
I’ve done the research, I’ve done the math
I think I see what’s coming to pass
A program to record all our plans

I no longer believe the lies they spread
The NSA runs the government
In this surveillance state

How can I live off the grid?
When connection is my final bid
I wish I could condition my brain
We’re all seduced by chemistry
That makes us think that we are free
When every thought’s already been claimed

I no longer believe the promises
The NSA is after what we think
In this surveillance state

Lines of resistance forming in my mind
Where is the cure that I’ve tried to find?
Lines of resistance won’t be taken down
They’ve run the state into the ground
And are we so much safer now?
Stop this surveillance state

The Chords - Maybe Tomorrow

Today seems a good day to slip in a classic......

The Chords formed in south east London in 1978 and were one of the more successful of the mod revival bands that hitched a ride on the punk/new wave juggernaut. Often compared with The Jam, they were originally signed to Jimmy Pursey's J P Productions though most of their success came once they were on Polydor.

The classic line up featured Billy Hassett (vocals/guitar), Martin Mason (bass), Chris Pope (guitar) and Brett "Buddy" Ascott (drums). They released their debut single, Now It's Gone, in 1979 and followed it up with chart hit Maybe Tomorrow. Their debut album was 1980's So Far Away.

There were a number of other singles but they called a day in 1981 (they got back together to tour and release a single in 2010). A compilation of their best stuff titled This Is What They Want came out in 2000 on Polydor.

One of the best of the mod revival singles of the time, this is Maybe Tomorrow.....

Sometimes I just get a feeling
Crazy dreams inside
People hiding wearing uniforms
Screams of laughter shouts you lied
Pointed fingers and questions why
Scared scared people with their lives all torn

Imgination
A real sound
From the streets
From the towns

Sometimes I watch and wait
Signs of voices and screams
Dreaming now is this just a funny joke
Can this all be just a dream
Oh no it can't be it's to obscene
Thats when I see you staring at me

Imgination
A real sound
From the streets
From the towns
Silent Footsteps
Whispers all about
It's too late
The deadly underground

Cause we saw you
Surely not this time
Yes we saw you
You were wearing the uniforms
Yes you were wearing the uniforms
But it ain't no crime

Sometimes I go all silent
And lose all sense of time
Your hating mind eyes with thought
Where and when the sun don't s***ne
When the dogs don't bark or whine
Thats when I see you stare around

Reality
Or just lies
From those who
Talk with lead
Be good now
And don't do nothing
Cause if you do
Bang bang
Bang bang
Your dead
